Hey there! I was so impressed with my previous Alien vs. Triangle from Mephisto that I decided to run a full 4x4 tent with it! Feel free to check out my previous AvTK diary, she's a beauty!. Popped 4 seeds on 11/28 and their taproots were long enough to plant on 12-1.
I'm sticking with organic growing using dry amendments and teas. I usually run 10 gallon pots but this time I'm running 7 gallon pots, just to save a bit of money on the soil. Thinking about making my own soil sometime as it's pretty cost effective. Until then though, we run a 50/50 mix of Happy Frog and Ocean Forest as well as a little bit of Light Warrior. All four seeds popped and were successfully planted.
Here we go! Working with 4 seedlings in the 4x4. Planted all of them in 7 gallon pots. Got the Mars Hydro FCE4800 and its pretty gnarly. Lights are on at 100% intensity at 32 inches and the tent seems to reach up to 81f during the day with night temps dipping down to like 62 which is not ideal. The humidity has also been really low, some nights dipping down to like 35% RH. Unfortunately I do not have the means to control the environment just the way I want to, but cannabis is a pretty hardy.
Phenos 1, 2, and 4 seem to be growing just fine, while pheno 3 is falling behind. Maybe I got a runt? Hopefully she catches up, else I'll probably chuck her and use the soil for something else.
Week two of the Alien vs Tk. Pheno #3 was indeed a runt, and I killed her before burying her body in the soil. She will be food for the HubbaBubbaHaze x Livers I plan on starting soon :D.
Pheno #1 and #2 seem to be growing just fine despite the low temps and low humidity. Pheno #3 seems to be really struggling and I'm not sure what's wrong with her. Just gunna chalk it up to genetics. That being said, I think I'm going to keep her and see what she does.
I plan on feeding them plain water until around week 4 or 5. Then I'll give her the ole Craft Blend and maybe compost tea. I also plan on topping within the next week.
Good week for all the plants. It seems pheno #4 has taken off just fine, albeit with some strange leaf growth. Phenos #1 and #2 seem to be doing just fine and they're loving life. I topped the first two plants on day 18 and fourth plant will get her topping soon. No issues just yet!
Topped this week and it seems that all of them responded well to it. Think I may have FIMMED pheno #1 though, but that's okay. Starting to see pistils on all of them which is an indication of preflower. Going to stretch for next weeks up ahead and will probably begin low stress training them early next week. Also going to feed next week as well.
So far pheno #2 is the biggest. Pheno #4 has stopped producing strange looking leaves and is growing normally.
I've begun low stress training this week. They all seem to be stretching pretty well. Pheno #2 is definitely faster than the other phenos with alot of pistil growth. Pheno #4 is kind of freaky, with very large stems.
I fed them this week with a cup of craft blend and some worm castings. Wish I could keep temps above 65 at night but that's not happening. Regardless, they're growing just fine.
Going to keep training them until I can't anymore. Hopefully we don't break any branches :D.
Some pretty good growth on all four phenos this week. Its getting really chilly at night, some nights as low as 55f. Despite the good growth its clear that the plants are a bit sad. I want to say that its due to the temperature, but the Flap Jacks in the tent next to these girls seems to not mind the cold at all.
I also noticed that not only are these plants a bit smaller than my previous run in the 10 gallon pot, they're alot shorter as well. I've trained the branches alot this run, so that could explain it, but it feels as if the plants are growing at a slower rate than normal. I'm just gunna blame the cold weather.
Pheno #2 seems to be the furthest ahead in flowering. All her stems are becoming more brittle, so I will not be able to LST her anymore. Pheno #2's stems are still pliable, so maybe I'll do another round or two of LST on her.
Pheno #4 is a freak. Remember when I said she was growing normally? I lied. Her stems are unusually big, with one stem being a legit fusion of two. It branches out into two separate tops which I have been training. Definitely pretty strange.
Seeing some strange marks on leaves, including a purple fade starting already on a few leaves. This fade happened on the last AvTK I did, but it didn't start until later in flower. I have a feeling the low temperatures are starting to bring out the purple hues on the leaves. Other than that, just a few scuffs and markings on leaves here and there. Seeing variation of greens on the leaves too.
Gunna feed early next week again. If I notice excess fading or any other issues, I'll probably whip up some compost tea. Don't notice any burn from the craft blend, but the tips curl which can be an indication of an excess of N.
See you next week!
Slow growing this week. Pheno #4 doesn't look happy at all. Showing signs of watering issues but my watering has been on point. Maybe its just too cold? This tent is on a concrete floor and the other tents aren't which would explain the disparity in growth between tents. Oh well.
Fed this week. Cup of craft blend and worm castings.
Still slow growth and the development of some blotches on leaves here and there. Pheno 4 look a little bit better recently, phenos 1 and 2 doing just fine. Their smells are coming in and it seems like they are all distinctly different.
Fed a compost tea this week. Will feed with craft blend next week.
Growth has stopped on pheno #1. Pheno #2 gets very slow growth, a few pistils here and there. Pheno #4 still needs another week or two. Fed a bit of craft blend, but not much. They're getting water until finish now.
Welp, pheno 4 is just about done. Gunna give her a few more days. Not much to say other than I'm not too thrilled with this grow. Big difference between my last run with the AvTk. I'll post more about it when I harvest. See you then!
Pheno #4 is finally finished so I've made the decision to harvest. I'm pretty bummed out with this grow, and the results aren't the best. Out of the three plants, I managed to get around 130-ish grams of good usable buds. The rest of it was just larf unfortunately. My previous run with the AvTk went much better, and I'm stuck here scratching my head on what could have gone wrong. I have some theories.
First, it was cold. Definitely a few degrees cooler in this tent than my others. This tent is also (almost) touching the cold concrete floor. Maybe the root zone was just colder in this tent due to this and it stunted the plants?
Second, it was really bright. This is the first time I'm growing with this FCE 4800. The plants ended up being super short and slow to grow. I did take care to hang my light up higher than usual this grow, but maybe it was not enough. I didn't notice any overt signs of light stress, but I can't completely rule it out either.
Most of the plant was not of good quality. Fortunately the tops are all pretty good. Phenos 2 and 4 came out pretty good, with pheno 2 having surprisingly dense and nice buds. Pheno 1 really blows. Not only is she larfy, but it looks like she finished up super early. It smells nice though, so maybe she is worth smoking.
Welp, can't have winners all the time. My last AvTK was fuckin' incredible at least. Happy to put this one behind me and start something else. My HubbaBubbaHaze x Livers is doing really well and will be chopped shortly, and I will most likely be starting Mephisto's Chemdoggin soon.
