I think this little seed is over two years old. At first, it soaked in a glass of water for a day, then it slept in a paper napkin. A root showed up after six days. That's a bit long, but I'm still determined to see this cycle through to the end.
The plant seems to be growing bit by bit. Doesn’t drink much. Watered it today just in case. Although it's been 4 days since the last watering, the soil was still moist (the moisture sensor in the substrate showed 61%). The leaves, in my opinion, may not look perfect, but I don’t see any obvious problems.
The plant survived its first LST training just fine and straightened up in just a few hours. Overall, the condition of the leaves doesn't worry me, except for one, which with its deep green color, compared to the others, shows possible signs of overfeeding. Also, I'm still bummed about the growth rate.
This week, I’ve noticed some pre-flowering signs starting to show up. I began a full watering until runoff. Slightly increased the amount of nutrients. Bent the second part of the plant as a continuation of the LST sessions. The big fan leaves are drooping down, not sure what that means, just gonna leave this here as a note.
Well, this week saw the appearance of hairy buds, which means the flowering stage has begun. I'm continuing with the LST, leveling the height of the stems. The fertilizers will still be for vegetation, as I sense the plant hasn't exhausted it's resources for growth yet. Problems wise: A couple of times, I noticed wilting leaves across the whole bush, possibly due to LST stress or insufficient watering. There are some unpleasant yellow-brown spots showing up on a couple of old fan leaves. I have two theories about why this happened - either due to the shadow they were in or a localized salting of the soil. I've corrected both these things, but based on my short experience, I doubt it'll make a major difference overall. :)
Finally, my plant started guzzling water - I set up a regular watering every two days. Now I've got it munching on blooming fertilizers. Snipped off a couple of old yellowed leaves which just didn't seem to revive. I've been cutting one leaf a day, making sure not to traumatize my autoflower too much. Blooming is rolling in its own way.
The plant has been pushing out buds like crazy and still blooming. It's not really stressed out. The environment it's in is pretty stable, not much changing. During all this time, the power only cut out 3 times for a few hours. Humidity and temperature are within comfy levels, following the VPD chart. I've been fertilizing it pretty gently. Harvest is still a long way off, but for some reason, the plant seems to be "aging" rapidly: I'm seeing lots of old yellow leaves with brown spots,
almost all new leaves are getting brown tips. I'm worried the endgame might be a downer.
Buds are gradually bulking up. Stigmas have already switched colors from yellow to orange. In the photo of the biggest bud, you can see a bunch of trichomes. They're still kind of clear, but still cool to see. Thought there'd be loads of yellow leaves, but not this time. I'm chopping off one yellow leaf per day, only those that show clear signs of death. The burns on the leaves are pretty obvious in the photos. It's weird because I've had my lights set to 50% power from the get-go. If you convert that to PPFD, it's about 400 umol/m²*s in the center of the box, which is almost a third lower than what the manufacturer recommends. This is where the experience of growing different strains in various conditions comes in handy to explain this mystery!
Almost all the leaves have turned a lilac hue. This tan is most noticeable on the leaves that are fully lit. On those that are partially covered by others, it's not visible. Nothing more to comment on this week :)
Noticed some brown trichomes on a few buds today. There aren't many yet, but I've started to gradually reduce the amount of fertilizers and prepare for soil flushing. This, along with the grassy smell that's been breaking through my filter and filling up the space, reminds me of the upcoming harvest. Not liking the look of the leaves at all. Their brown color and the tendency to curl up suggest some issues. What these problems are, I can't tell, and at this stage, I'm definitely not going to make any radical changes to the growing conditions.
Today, on day 135, there were enough dark trichomes, so I harvested. I hope 10 days of flushing will be enough for a good taste. The plant was behind schedule from the start, and in the last few weeks, it seemed to just stop growing. The trichomes got cloudy at week 14, but it took another 4 weeks for them to darken. And the leaf color is a total mystery, I've never seen anything like it before. I couldn’t figure out why they turned that weird brownish color. Anyway, I'll try it after drying and curing, and then I'll post my final update.
