Welcome everyone to my first diary of 24' I am using some seeds from a contest win back in 23' Has a pick of Honey Mints or Artic Flurry, the Honey mints has a much better bio about the stain and I'm curious of the minty taste that could be. @Exotic_seeds was generous to send over 10 of this strain so I am happy to use it in my first ever SOG, I don't think all 10 will germinate but if they do even better. Guess I should have has some extras just in case but that's to late now and I did not want to wait on anything. I also feel that using 2gal pots is a bit to large and feel more 1gal pots would have been better but again did not have enough of the seeds to do this. But that would have been my ideal. Maybe next run if this one goes well. I am doing this grow in a mix of homemade super soil. its comprised of Coir, Compost, Peat, Perlite, Vermiculite, Worm castings and various dry amendments. Went back to this style of growing as I figured getting all the runoff needed for 10 pots with out an automatic system in play was just tedious and I know i would have gotten sick of it real fast. I germinated these seeds in a glass of water with a bit of Yucca extract and a pro microbe for the plants. They soaked for about 8hrs and then I planted them in their holes lined with some pro fungi powder of about 1.5cm or 1/2 inch deep. Water that in with more pro microbes and a bit of K from a seed weed extract and a pinch of Mg. the EC was aorund 0.3 or 177PPM going in. watered till I had a bit of runoff just to give the medium a good rinse and take out any excess salts from the coir if their is any lingering. PH of the water going in was around 6.2-6.3. Run off ec was a bit high but not likey to cause issues as it should have just been the first little bit. One nice note if when calibrating my PH pen it did not falter in reading the 4.01 or 7.01 control solutions, both numbers where only off by aorund 0.03 +/- good little pen for keeping solid after all that inactivity and drying out. Does help to soak it in storage solution for a good 48hrs before using it for calibration or readings. Last time I did not wait for it to hydrate for lack of better words I had to calibrate it twice as it was off from the first calibration. =UPDATE= So this has not gone as planed, 5 of the seeds are dead "pics attached of ungerminated seeds on white lid" and 2 of the ones that are alive are not doing so hot. These two not so hot ones need assistance as the plants where growing upside down, They would have died if I did not dig em up a bit to find that, and they are not likely to survive after my little correction. only 3 popped up and grew "normally" in my view. This all could be from my soil mix, however I have used this in the past and had no issues, It could be from my germination method or even how I stored the seeds, lastly it could be the seeds them selves or how they where transported to me. The high EC runoff I was having was new to me but I never monitored the run off before in a soil grow, given I have used this mix before its weird and 3 of the seeds seem unbothered. In the end I have 3 healthy looking plants and 2 maybes so I will no longer be aiming for a SOG on this grow but just a SCROG style. and try and bush out these ladies. I will accrue some more seeds in mass and try a NEW SOG grow on my next run. Maybe I will run some of my buddies genetics as they have a surplus of seeds and I can plan for failures and sow 20 if I want ten. Side note this is only my 2nd time growing Exotic Seeds Genetics and the first time went well without a hitch, I don't feel that a newly released stain would have such low germination rate on its own and this is likely my own fault or a problem with storage. I will note some of the seeds looked quite small and white and im not used to seeing that, typically have darker skinned seeds, when I was soaking the seeds a few of them kept floating and did not sink, This is also something I'm not used to, everything should sink after 12hrs soak I feel. In the updated pics the pots with torn up seed package in them are the ones that are dead, and the one with the main chuck of seed packing is where I buried all the dead seeds in hopes maybe something will pop up in the next week but I'm not holding my breath. =UPDATE= #2 I am going to use the pot space for starting some of my hot peppers indoors. I ordered some new seeds this year and also used some older ones I had, All this extra time should help them get nice and big so I can have a good bumper crop of them. Naga Morich - https://www.tradewindsfruit.com/naga-morich-jolokia-pepper-seeds Fatalii - https://www.tradewindsfruit.com/fatalii-pepper-seeds Jigsaw - https://www.rareseeds.com/pepper-hot-jigsaw Goronong - https://www.rareseeds.com/pepper-hot-goronong Only starting the Naga and Fat peppers as the other ones are still in transit. The Naga are a few years old and got them out of a dried pepper so hopefully they are still active. Spritzed them with a bit of peroxide to help germinate them, old seeds are going to take a bit more time no doubt. Will contuine to soak them for 12hrs and then get the little pots ready. Big shoutout to Medic Grow for sponsoring the lighting in my tent, They have provided me with 2x Mini Sun 2's in the 240w configuration, They use the v1 growing spectrum that is a all purpose seed to harvest spectrum so their is no hassle of switching it mid grow. This week has a fun surprise, Of the two seedlings I operated on as they where growing sideways in the medium one of them survived. It is quite small and is is going to be playing catch up all grow so may move it outdoors in the summer and just clone the shit out of it if I like the way the other plants go. Also if it bounces back fast I could try and incorporate it into the SCROG. but I kinda have my mind set on just three plants. Also starting a lot of my hot pepper in this tent with the Honey Mints, hopefully they will pop up in the next week or so and get good sized before they need to be transplanted outside in 8-10 weeks. Their seeds always take so long. Other then that plants are looking good and healthy. The bigger one has a bit of leave warping, nothing to worrying as its not progressed or gotten worse, likely from me giving it a bit to much water trying to flush out the high EC from before. Other then that nothing else to report, thinking of doing an early top on them to mainline all 3 of them. This week has gone well, had a bunch of stuff typed out and closed my browser by mistake and now this is #2 attempt to post this week. Easy week for the plants, they have being growing well and I am impressed by the size of them. I added in some potassium silicate to introduce some Si into this grow. I decided to top them as they where starting to grow their 4th node, snipped that tip off and we're golden. They are kinda smelly if you rub them and that's fun too, Some of the hot peppers have also popped up and started growing. I still don't have anything on the Naga Morich pepper that I am hoping for. I have a feeling that as the seeds I got from these peppers where from a dehydrated pepper, they might be duds nuked from the dry heat of the dehydrator. I do have 4 vials of hot pepper seeds where the label has fallen off, I found the labels but no idea what one goes on what bottle. One out of the four bottles is Naga Morich, Having some none dehydrated seeds in my possession is one step closer to getting more of this hottie. I also found a fly out of no where, Its little wing is damaged and it more or less hops and glides unsuccessfully vs fly's but I took some videos of it. I also seen a few fungus gnats, little fuckers where not in my apartment before I am convinced their eggs survive in the stuff I buy then come out of it. Kinda annoying. PLUS I borrowed a light meter from my hydro shop, I was expecting it to be a LUX meter and that I would have to do a bunch of conversions but it was not, it was a legit Quantum Par Sensor, detecting in PPF "Photosynthetic Photon Flux" or umols/s, with these readings I can calculate my PPFD "PPF+Density" I have mapped out my tents floor into a colour coded grid of dots and mapped out the PPF at varying heights and dims. However I did not do it right and need to redo this. But once this is done I will have a functioning PPFD map with relation to my tent. This will help me tone in DLI and get it aorund a solid 35-40. Will be gearing up for a transplant next week. I try and post on Fridays but don't always get around to it. I take the pics on that date though and then try and remember what I was going to write about that week. PS Gorilla Tent Accessory's suck shit. The SCROG nets pic has the gorilla 2x4 SCROG net "black" and the Secret Jardin 2x4 SCROG net "white" beside it. massive difference in quality and size. I should have known when they state on the label its for 2x2 or 2x4, that's not even possible. Also tried out the nutrient line that's part of the gorilla tent company, Lotus, I ran it one year and it was just trash, did not work, had issues since first week and they would not correct. Buddy reached out to me and said same thing happened to him and he disliked the brand. Mother Fucker, Had all this typed out and it fucking closed the tab and would not load last edit. Lets try this again. This has been a big week, got a transplant in and ran into some issues with the feed. Transplanted the plants from their 1L to 2Gal/7.5L pots and gave them some LST to keep em low, all went well in transplant process as seen in the video however the Gaia Green burned my plants and this is odd considering I did not use it full strength as per their directions. They recommend amending medium for pots and baskets at a rate of 3tbsp or 45ml per Gal and I used it at a rate of 60ml in 2Gal, not even close to their 90ml recommendation. Seems weird why I would be experiencing this. I reached out to them and have not heard anything back. kinda disappointed about that. I have two batches of Gaia Green 4-4-4 and when I ran a test side by side on them I found the old one I am currently useing has a higher EC value then the new one I got. I dissolved 1/4 teaspoon into 250ml of water and gave it a good stir, I then let it sit for 5 min and measured its PH and EC, I also tested out the Insect Frass from them as well and it was similar numbers to the new 4-4-4 batch. I got readings of 0.98 for new 4-4-4 and 1.43EC for the old batch of 4-4-4. Seems off. I also tested all the other things I added into the soil and they did not spike EC to any significance. I'm hoping they reach back out to let me know whats up. PH was on point and nothing crazy all aorund 7.1 I also tested the PH and EC of the watering solution to confirm it was the 4-4-4, added in some yucca in their as well as other beneficials that I normally do in soil grows. all within range, PH down with Phspohric Acid and EC under 300 A+ In other good news I finalized the PPFD maps for my tent and lights, I use 2x 240w Mini Sun 2's from Medic Grow, They don't normally use the lights in a twin setup in 2x4 tent so thus they had no light maps for me. The grow shop I go to lent me their Quantum Par light meter and I went to town, I demoed this unit last week in a little video and then went onto say how I messed up the readings and needed to redo it all. Well I had to have the meter returned and was working all week so only had time to get one height measurement in at 30" with all the intensities of the light 40-60-80-100% I had a feeling I was over blasting them with light but the amount I was thinking was not even close to how much more I was giving them. I was running my plants before at 80% and maybe 20" hang height. I was nuking them. It shows my ideals are going to be 40% in veg and 60% in flower with altered lighting schedules to accommodate a proper DLI. As of right now I am giving my plants 42 DLI in veg at 18/6 and that's a bit much for me. I would like to see this number closer to 35. So if I edit my schedule down to 16/8 it will give me a DLI of 37, when I got into bloom if I go 11/13 I will also get a DLI of 37. If I kept it at 12/12 at 60% I would have a DLI of 41, and If i did it like last time 12/12 at 80% I would have a DLI of 55... 41 is not the worst but I think it might be to much. we will see based on how the plants are growing. I used a free heatmap web page tool to make the PPFD maps, its not perfect but it works out well for me. I did all the intensities on their own image and also did one main image with all the intensities that shows the strength of 100% vs 40-60-80% in colour. The one light on the right side does not seem to be as strong as the one on the left, Or it could be some weird things with my tent, When I looked at the numbers with the door open they did not fluctuate as much. so who knows, I tested them with the door closed and extractor fan on as that's what the plants will be getting when in the tent, I centred the light as best I could and levelled it out with a bubble leveller. It was funny seeing how the PPF readout numbers changed as the tent sucked in around the sides, It is a good thing I have the mid support bar to prevent it from doing that to much. Once I mapped out all my readings in PPF I then calculated its average and PPFD using the grow space dimensions of 2x4, applied the convention and got my average PPFD :) The pepper are also doing well. I don't think I noticed a difference between soaking the seeds with some peroxide 1% vs plan water. Won't do that again does not seem to help anything. All but one variety as popped, the naga morich, has not been germinated, I was reading online that dehydrated seeds can have as low as 5% germination rate, With this in mind I took a lot of seeds from my older naga morich peppers in the pantry and placed them in a damp paper towel. I have a feeling given their age and treatment previously they will not pop, but that's ok if they don't, I have a large assortment of pepper for this season and they are already well on their way to giving me a good crop. Have not noticed any other fungus gnats in a bit. Happy about that, don't know where they went, unless it was just a few and they died before breeding. One can hope, Big shoutout to Medic Grow for sponsoring the lighting in my tent, They have provided me with 2x Mini Sun 2's in the 240w configuration, They use the v1 growing spectrum that is a all purpose seed to harvest spectrum so their is no hassle of switching it mid grow. Good week overall, The plants are levelling out and getting extra green with the transplant, no more die back :D Still no word from Gaia Green so I think they just don't care after getting bought out. similar to GHE and scotts miracle grow big brands are taking up smaller independent companies to get every aspect of the market then cheapening the product slowly over time. I have topped them again and waiting for the new shoots to grow in, I have also removed the lower branches and put them into vials to clone out. Will see how they do and if I want to grow them outdoor this year or give em away. I will be looking for a new home for the 4th plant that survived in the smaller container. But it won't be ready for another few months till the weather improves for outdoors or anytime right now if I know a buddy wants a plant in my area. I also topped my peppers in hopes it will bush them out a lot and get a solid plant. Holy basil is also fine, I feel I am going to need to give it some more food in a bit they will be approaching nutrient depletion soon. The extras I put in the water this week are the same as any other, fulvic acid, potassium silicate, yucca extract, a bacteria pro bio soil product "NOT LABS" and PH adjusters. Trying out critic, ascorbic and malic acids powders as a alternate to phosphoric acid liquid. If it works its an option for PH down and one I can buy in bulk almost anywhere. 85% phosphoric is hard to source unless you got a grow shop close by. I was also reading that critic has a strong affinity for dissolving calcium and might work better on it vs phosphoric and dies out faster. but this needs more looking into before anything concrete is devised. O I also made some Brownie Cookies, they turned out well. Chewy on the inside and crunch on the outside. I infused them with 15.5G of flower and a quick butter bath only simmering for 30min, 7g CBG ZeroDue from SeedStockers + 7g Dnamed Kush CBD Auto from Dinafem + 1.5g Strawberry Cola Auto from Exotic Seeds. Strained out all the weed and used the butter in the cookies. I would make them again, all cookies got flaked salt as a garnish, They are very light and I can eat a few of them and still be ok, This is what I want, great with reducing inflammation and relaxing the body. If I want a more THC high I'll eat more of them or take a separate THC edible. This week as went well, plants are starting to bulk up and get comfortable in their new pots. Next week or the week after next might be the time to transplant them into their forever home pots, then flip to flower after 3 weeks of them growing into their new space. They have been getting a bit to much N with the Gaia Green 4-4-4 mix, I keep forgetting how much it gives them and that I need to mix it with the power bloom 2-8-4 in 25-30/75-70 or 50/50 ratios. I have extra Gaia Green Soluble seaweed extract to make up the missing K in the ratio mixes. Still mixing the PH a bit lower at 6.0 with the citric and malic acid tests, plants are going well with them, tested a bit of runoff with the one smaller plant and was getting aorund 7.5, EC still sky high so wont need to feed for a while now but they are not burning and that's a good thing. they seem to be tolerating the Potassium Silicate as well, I don't like how much it alters the PH but till I get in some ground wollastonite. Sames extras as any other week with the addition of some magnesium, rest as follows, yucca extract, silicon, potassium seaweed extract, microbes, fulvic acid, Clones are doing ok, when I took the photo of them this week they looked good and then 10 min outside of their humidity dome they looked like shit and all withered. Some of them are showing signs of putting on roots with little white specs on the stalk coming through. Will have to place them in some potting medium soon and see if they take off. And if they do I will have some to give away to whoever wants them in my friend group. I also have that one smaller plant that was delayed by a week or so thats also extra. Got to find a loving home for it, my other grow buddies don't have anything started ATM and don't want to start till later in the year. :( Pepper update! some of the peppers are living the high DLI of the lights and some of them are not... the purple jigsaw ones seems to be getting a bit burnt under the lighting. They all will be taken out soon enough. I should look at transplanting them into other pots soon and they likely root bound. Can set up something in my room with an old SF1000 I got or the Sunblaster 18" 6500k lights that I used to grow with. When I touch the leaves of the goronong and them smell my finger they have a lot of hot pepper aroma coming off of them. I think these peppers are going to be quite spicy when they are all done. The Fatalii peppers are the same and I know they are spicy AF but their smell is a bit more bright and less earthy as the goronong still pungent all over. The Fatalii are also a bit smaller, could be the older seed just is not as vibrant as new seed. Should be fine once they are outside always a good producer for me. Going to make infused salt with them and give that out as gifts to my friends. This week was good, Did the transplant from 7.5L/2Gal to 28L/7Gal, Stared to do some LST but the main stem broke on two "blue and Red" of the three plants. Kinda sucks but a bit to aggressive, on the third plant "yellow" I also used LST just not as strong and got the shape and placement I was looking for. Will have to wait for the others to heal and then I can try again. IDK how long it will take, but I'll give it a full week. Sucks as the tips will be getting more light then the others. I also ran out of soil so had to make up a half batch as well to top off the pots, got about 8L leftover for transplanting the peppers and what not, tents so full I had to remove the clones and one smaller plant. They are growing in a window now. The extras where Gaia Green All Purpose 4-4-4, Gaia Green Power Bloom 2-8-4, Gaia Green Insect Frass 3-2-4, Gaia Green Seaweed Extract 0-0-17, Bokashi Grains, Epsom Salts, Yeast Powder, Fluvic Acids, Enzymes, Silicon and Multiple Microbes. PH adjusted really low as the amendments have a lot of rock dusts and such, wanted them to be broken down by the time the roots reach em. Watered in with 4L on each container, Should be ok for the first few days, will need to judge how they are doing in a bit and see if their roots are colonizing the new area. no idea how the clones will do outside the tent, Still have them in a plastic bag till I can see roots in the containers they are in. Checking about once a week. My goal is to veg this out for another 3-4 weeks and top it one last time they switch to bloom with a SROG net, should have good coverage and lots of cola sites per plant. Good little week, Last week I did not update the diary till a few days after when I took all the pics and videos but it is 1 week apart from last despite it only being 3 days GD post time. Transplanted my little plant #4 into a 2Gal pot, gave it some LST and a 2nd topping and took off some leaves that where touching the dirt after LST. This one will grow outside of the tent and I will get it under some supplemental lighting as soon as I get a box/text going for it. I won't be using my sf1000 Like I previously thought of doing, I'm going to put it under my 6500K Sun Blaster LED strips that I like. the 18" ones daisy chained together. Fun little thing I noticed is when I drilled holes into the pot a few inches up for air pruning. It made a line in the root ball that divides it in two half's. nice to have extra roots, might be a reason to do this on other pots that are hard plastic. Even if it smaller pin hole sized vs larger 1-2cm holes I bet its beneficial for my grow style. Have some before and after LST photos of it. these plants are trippers and can handle some abuse. All clones have roots now as well, that's a big bonus. They came out of the humidity bag I had them in and so far no signs of excess stress. Will keep them in smaller containers till I know what plant I like the best if any out of the mix. Will likely only be going off of looks vs taste or effects. I also might just gorilla garden them in a few spots I know of. I have a buddy in the city who has a garden and does nothing with it. If I plant them there they will sink up their yard im sure and they will love it. Regarding the LST snaps from last week, I have patched up the breaks with some string, its not 100% and kinda shity but the plants are healthy, I have heard some users use surgical tape with much better results so will need to grab a roll of this in the feature if I continue to snap the ladies on LST. Not much going on other with them, they are getting acclimated to their new home, no water was needed just letting them explore, will likely need to give them a nice water in a few days once they drink up the rest of the pots volume. After that will top again and then flip to flower after a week of recovery. so week 11 or 12 flip to flower. This week has been descent, plants recovered just fine from the LST issues from before. Its like they never were really phased by it. and that's impressive for the strain it really can take abuse and grows well. I was away for a extended weekend and tossed in 1Gal of ph'd water to the plants and hopped for the best, So far so good. Will need to water them again tomorrow. Had a bit of burning on some leaves from the soil/transplant so its good to know the stuff is feeding em well. I really think the fulvic acids are helping them take in the nutrients as I'm using less of it compared to other grows with Gaia Green. I topped all the plants this week and this should set them back a bit in vertical growth. I think they will be ready for flip in a week or two, they should have established themselves in the new pots with all their roots by now. Maybe give them a bit more and then pinch them all into the SCROG net, Might need a 2nd net to support the colas if they grow really tall. Aim for week 10 flip as of now. Clones are also doing well, one of them dried out a bit more and can see the growth was stunted. I also gave away the 4th plant that was a runt, they will be keeping it in a window still till its time to transplant them outside in the spring and let it grow into a monster plant outdoors hopefully if it does not get stolen. Hard to tell what will happen to it. Lota dumbasses in their neighbourhood. Other then that not much else to report on, Big shoutout to Medic Grow for sponsoring the lighting in my tent, They have provided me with 2x Mini Sun 2's in the 240w configuration, They use the v1 growing spectrum that is a all purpose seed to harvest spectrum so their is no hassle of switching it mid grow. Been an ok week just counting down the days till flip. This update is a bit late and should have another soon enough. Found one leaf that was giving me some camo print. Kinda cool. Would be neat if the entire plant did that, would look amazing on the deck. makeshift bamboo. My butterwort plant is starting to thrive again in the shade of the bigger plants and the peppers are also doing the same, the light was just to much for them. the butterwort is also eating lots and lots of the gnats in the tent and doing its job, I'm going to try and propagate it and give some to my grow shop guys and see if they want to sell them. They told me to make a bunch of clones of it and bring them some so we will see. I let my pots get nice and dry before the next water and saw some of the leaves on the underside of the canopy were wilting so the gnats might have been knocked back by a week or so from it being to dry on the soil level. Plant is also fully showing its sex on two of them, waiting on the middle one to pop some pistils. Fed them all the same with an addition of some seaweed extract from GaiaGreen. They are really liking the fulvic acid powder I'm using. this is 100% a new thing going into all the grows moving forward. I also went out and purchase some bubble has bags for cheep and decided to try and make some bubble hash out of a bunch of outdoor plants I had, comprised also of trim/shake from all the other diaries I did. One weird thing was the 25u size was the bigger yielding and that not so normal from what I have been told by my friends. I have a strong feeling it was from me shaking and hitting the bag like it owed me some money. I wanted to see how much keif/crystals would fall off of it in the freezer and my orginal plan was to make keif hash with it and that's part of its processing. vs bubble hash you don't want to do that. The results where ok. I did 3 washes and honestly I should have done more but it was late and I was just going to throw it out anyway if I did not make hash from it, so win win. 1st wash about 15min 2nd wash was about 15-20 min 3rd wash was closer to 30 min. used a 220u work bag and then went into a 160u and 73u down to a 25u as final, I don't know its yeild yet but I will soon find out as its still drying. used 213.4g of trim and shake and some buds. My ideal outcome is 10% of that weight in hash so 21.3g 220u160u73u25u u=micron I feel like im forgetting something but IDK what it is, till next week, and that should be in a few days. Friday if I get my shit together. Alright! This week is finally done and this will be the last vegetative growth week for the plants. Switching to flower tonight :D I have done some defoliation and a bit of lollipopping to the 3 plants, I was noticing the shadows where quite dark on the tent floor and the plants where not crazy tall so they needed to be managed, If I was outdoors I would just LST them some more and not worry about any of it but indoors the airflow is tight and it was needed, cleaning up the undercanopy was none negotiable or some bad things would have happened in flower. Mainly molds or worse WPM. I also removed the string supports I has on the plants when they broke from some LST I did a few weeks ago. In the stripping down of the plants I removed a lot of lower immature growths and took out some immature branches, I have all these sitting in a glass of water and will clone them out for shits and giggles, I think their is about 15 of them or more, maybe I will go and plant them aorund my neighbourhood in municipal planters. Plus now I can work in the topdressings that will be required in the upcoming weeks to keep these plants happy and healthy. Going to continue amending in some of the bokashi in the feedings as well as worm castings as they give off a nice ammount of microbes for the soil. I wish I had some of my LABs for this grow but I did not make any. The clones from before are doing fine, just did not take any pics of them. The butterwort is doing a fantastic job of eating up the gnats. I have some nematodes on hand for when its had its fill as I won't want them getting into the flowers as they ripening. The time has come! Flowering has been initiated and is off to a good start, The Photoperiod is now running at 11/13 on/off and the intensity of the light has been bumped up to 60% giving me a DLI of aorund 37.5 at 30" hang height in my 2x4. As the plants where topped a bunch I have found in previous grows the stretch will not be as crazy as if I left them on their own, however the increased pot size may negate that effect, only time will tell :D I also gave them a 2nd watering as the last one was leaving the pots a bit to light. This could be their new normal 1gal one week, 2 gal the next separated by a few days. They have all been amended with a 50/50 mix of grow and bloom from Gaia, Also added in some extra Insect Frass, Yeast and Bokashi grains, mixed this all with worm castings and compost for the top dress. added the compost after mixing it into the top layer so it gives it a bit of a blanket. made a little video of it and me watering the plants on a speed run. One thing I need to find is a sprayer head that has a 70-90 degree bend on it. I'm tired of watering from overhead as my wand is straight and does not have a bend. Its made of hard plastic and was thinking I would toss the tip in the oven to soften it up and place a coat hanger though it, then bend it ever so slightly and wait for it to cool, can snip off the wire and pull it out once its all done and have a bent tip. or I can get a 2nd wand attachment for it. Just been so busy have not had time to search for it, the peppers are doing much better as well, after the defoliation from last week they where getting a bit more light but that is all gone now, the plants have taken it back. and they are in shade, the plants seem to like it more. only the one strain likes the intense light of the led's, Fatalii peppers, It might be the hottest ones I'm growing if the goronong don't measure up. The JigSaw peppers are also starting to show some of their variegation in the leaves that make them pretty to grow now they are in the shade more. and its bound to be better then pure purple leaves from the LED"s Butterwort is eating all the gnats as well. so no problem there. Will apply the nematodes later next week to kill em off in the medium. Don't want them getting trapped in the flowers. stupid little fuckers. I left out some of the extras in the water this week as it was its first topdressing, didn't want to stress it out to much, I will be topdressing every week and diving the total ammount of amendments in 4 parts. vs one big feeding at beginning of the month like its been suggested on the label, I find this helps avoid the N burn I normally see and gives them a bit better of a breakdown for flowering period. It worked really well with my G13 Labs Blue Cindy grow so I am repeating the process and will likely make this my new standard. I will also be adding in some Mg into every other water till stretch is done same with a very light feeding of molasses, I know it has been negative in past grows but going to try it out again with much smaller amounts. 1tea/pot, the extra sugars should work wonders on the Bokashi added into the soil and allow it to thrive. Plants are starting to get more of a funk to them as well, So i feel that's what was happening with the gifted plant to my parents smelling up the place, it was just entering flowering as it was not in a tent n the lighting must have been to low. And the little cuttings I did last week are fine, no roots but will soon have a bunch of little clones to go. Just in time for spring. I think that's it. Nothing to exciting this week, plants are doing well. Little bit of stretching going on and starting to smell more and more now. The newer growth is a bit lighter in shades of green then the old stuff. I think this is from me dividing the flowering nutrients into 4 weeks vs all at once as they tend to get a bit of N tox when I give it all at once so this seems to be doing better. Clones are same old, just waiting for the weather to get nice. Found out that when I use Insect Frass as a fertilizer it's also adding in chitin "a protein found in bugs, crustaceans and fungi" to the soil, when that stuff breaks down it makes chitosan and that can help boost defences against pests and virus in the plant. There are plant additives out their that are pure chitosan in varying concentrations and they use this to make the buds extra frosty. To much can harm the plant though. I also found out I needed to water them a bit more then normal not that the stretch is happening. so they got 6L this week each vs the regular 4L but it was split up in 3 days. In the first bit they got all the additives i normally do and the other bit was just PH'd water, didn't want to over load em. Ok this week is going well. Some of them are stretching more then the others and that's ok. Of the little bit of smells I got from them just buy rubbing a frosty sugar leaf the 1st "blue" plant has hints of mint, the 2nd "red" smells like generic weed and the 3rd "yellow" is kinda a mix of the both. I was thinking they wold have stretched more but guess not. Still have another week or two before the stretch is done and its starts to thicken up. Plants are showing some signs of something, have not looked into to much but the blushing of the leaves on plant #1 "blue" could be from my heavy hand at water or cooler nighttime temps that have been hitting it. This is the one that is having the most issues. Because of this I did a soil slurry test of all three pots and they all had aorund the same EC but the PH was different in each by a significant amount. it went up from plants 123 it is to high in plant 3 and kinda high in all the others as well yet looks fine, and the one with the highest PH its the biggest of them all. go figure. Could have been a bad sample. I did not want to disturb the roots to much but wanted to get a full spectrum of soil from top to bottom of pot. I brushed off the top dressing to not artificially mess up the EC results and took it from about a inch in from the edge of the pot in one location only vs multiple. #1 "Blue"........EC=0.25||PH=7.20 #2 "Red".........EC=0.32||PH=7.36 #3 "Yellow"....EC=0.27||PH=7.95 With this in mind I will contemplate the idea of lowering the PH levels of the water I give them to help offset this. from 6.5 down to aorund 6-6.2 Have not checked in on clone is a while, they have been outside hardening off for the most part. I only have clones of plant #2 "red" and #3 "yellow" the #1 "blue" clones died and IDK what one is what in the 2nd round of clones I just tossed a bunch of cutting from all of them into a jar. so their is some #1 blue in there maybe, I know its mostly one of the plants just can't recall what one. Applied some BTi to the soil in the last water to kill the gnats, thought I had some nematodes leftover but I did not so went out and got some BTi at the grow shop. Should do the trick. Not a while lot to report on this week. plants are growing well. add in some BTi from a mosquito dunk and will apply some more next week. Plant number 3 Yellow is the most crystaly out of the three and the strongest grower. It also had the highest PH when I checked the other week. IDK if this if anything, I would think it would be doing the worst given its close border to PH lockout. Plants are nice and smell now too. All the little cuttings I took I forgot about and they died, But the clones that where rooted and chilling outside are mostly good. The clones of plant #1 Blue are dead, but plants #2 and #3 aka Red and Yellow are doing just fine. Starting to get all my deck ready for this seasons grow. I think I will be trying out a good amount of Autos outside, Hopefully they won't mine the soil mix as its been to much in the past. We will see how they do. Also prepareing a little how to guide for m0uses haus of projects. Styrofoam planters. Ok, so I forgot to update this last week. woops, I will try and remember all the details but im sure to be forgetting something. I decided to strip the plants a bit as I felt their bottom half under the canopy was a bit to thick and under performing It has a bunch of shity stems and buds trying to develop and they where looking sad and spindly, not enough light, If i had under canopy lighting sure that's fine I'd leave em and they would thicken up, but I don't; so they had to go. I selected defoliation as a techniques used but I did not touch anything in the canopy. only below it, it was all not performing well and would have just increased the risk of bad airflow and maybe rot come late flower. I also have been noticing more issues with the one plant then the others and my hydro shop guys said it need more feed, I don't know how much I agree with them about that, they do not grow with amendments but it was time for the topdressing anyways. I mixed up the stuff and worked it into the top soil of the plants outside on the deck, when watering it in I also mixed it with my hands, I found this helps hydrate the Gaia Green powders and prevented them from forming dry pucks in the top layer. I think I need to always do this morning forward with all top dressings as just mixing it into the dry soil then watering is causing to much resistance and the top layer then gets a little bit crusty and hydrophobic, but mixing in while watering at the same time has prevented that from what I can tell. I also gave them a bit of a liquid soluble calcium as the PH was creeping back up again and didn't want that to be locked out. It helped to green up some of the plants again still the one is a bit to yellow for my liking. The top dress consisted of AP 4-4-4, PB 2-8-4 and some IF 3-2-4 Mixed it all up with something else can't remember, probably fulvic acids and magnesium. I also did a bit of a calibration on my tools as well as I felt they might be off a bit. The EC was not to bad, off by 41ppm or 0.082EC vs the base solution, my unit is a 500 scale pen eg. 500ppm=1.0EC PH was a bit more off by PH 0.18 from the PH 4.01 calibration solution. I did not do a before for the PH 7.01 calibration solution as I started at 4.01 but its still close enough in the end at PH 7.03. The storage solution is almost always the same as the PH 4.01 calibration solution. In their manual it says if you don't have any storage solution just use the PH 4.01 calibration solution. I feel they maybe the same thing but one has red dye and some stabilizers in it. Who knows. O and when working on my deck garden I was upcycleing the old cannabis growing mediums into the planters from the strawberry tent grow off, the one shaft from an older plant was purple inside when I broke it. It sat outside all winter so who knows what it was, I'm guessing its just anthocyanins or something similar. +=+=+=+=EDIT=+=+=+=+ Found a bunch of mini pollen sacks on plant #3 [Yellow], only started looking for them after I saw what appeared to be a seed and in turn was a immature seed in plant #1 [Blue], I think I have #3 Yellow and #2 Red clones left so will have to kill off the yellow ones when I get to it. I left exotic seeds know their plant went off, will see what they say about it. +=+=+=+=EDIT=+=+=+=+ ok, not a lot is happening this week. Plants are doing well and bulking up. after checking this morning they are also much greener then yellow. So the top dressing and added calcium is helping. likely more so the immediate nitrgron from the calcium as its calcium nitrate. Hopefully it won't get to much from the other amendments as I added in more IF then before and less 2-8-4 I think they have about 3-4 weeks left now, so entering the end of its life soon. I definitely think I messed up this grow a bit, mainly when it was transitioning to flower I feel I needed to double the feed vs split it out over 4 weeks and add in some sulphur to the soil to keep the PH down when making it in veg, It does not matter how much PH down I am using they are still going high from the goal I am trying to hit. I just want it sitting more aorund 6.5 vs 7-7.5. Plant number 3 or "Yellow" is really the best out of them all. bigger plant, more buds, more frost and healthy looking. I think this might be because plant number 1 "Blue" was just a bit setback by some root issues but it still is not overly frosty its like 1 is worst 3 is best and 2 is a mix of them both. just bad to good left to right. I'm also curious to take some clones from the other plant back at my parents but I know I don't need em, just want to know if it smells any better then the current ones. I want to get strains that really smell and taste amazing. Having 2nd thoughts about making this all into bubble hash. Might save a oz or two for friends as buds to compare to the hash I want to make from this. Speaking of the the small plant I gave to my parents, it started to enter flower, they are going to have to transplant it into the backyard in full sun soon. so it will be going thought a weird reveg period then back into flower end of summer. If I go home and visit I will likely have to do this for them. They have it in the same pot that I sent it to them in and gave it a feeding of miracle grow 20-20-20 and that's great for some NPK, but it does not have any micros or secondary macros. Thank that's about it, last week had a bit more details involved and the music on the videos is a bit much but I am liking it. Video games soundtracks for the win. Plant #3 yellow hermied and pollinated the tent :( Can see some of the seeds in the bud closeups as well as the pollen and mini sacks of the plant on lower growth. Not a big fan of this, It was the one plant closest to the tent door zipper and only happened on the lower growth. Almost wondering if there was a light leak or if it was just the plant. Will test for light leaks when the plants are chopped and I can crawl in and manage it. The liverwort from last grow survived outside and is making weird spiky umbrella like things. Looks to be its flower for lack of better understanding and how its going to release a lot of spores for the next generation to grow. Combined the very last week and harvest into one entry. Plants did ok other then the yellow plant or plant #3 gong hemi and pollinating the tent. I would try out their genetics again as they look descent, if I hit another hemri though I think that would be it for them. I reach out to them and asked if this was normal and got no reply. I will check the tent once its clean and free of stuff for light leaks aorund where plant #3 was to confirm it was not my environment. Plant #1 Red took it the worst. it had issues from mid flower but did not finish strong and was hurting a bit. Nice smell over all. Will be transforming all this into bubble hash with a machine I got and some bubble bags. Don't know when I'll do this but that's the plan. God about 10oz of buds 293.5g/10.48oz It was not 100% dry yet but popped it into the freezer to keep it fresh.
