So for an introduction, this was an unusual grow. For one thing I didn't take any photos earlier on. I planted her on October 10 after germination by paper towel, to a 5 gallon pot. And I started her outside knowing it was getting chillier etc, but my small indoor tent was already being used. It was really a test of Mint Jelly's endurance in the cold. Overall from seed to harvest was 120 days which is waaaaaay longer than the usual 70 days or so, due to the cold weather.
On day 73, she's way slowed down in her growth due to the cold temps outside. I’m very impressed with her resilience especially to the cold. And considering too how well she handled the summer heat waves – really resilient on both ends of the temp spectrum. I take her inside nights when it’s under 40 degrees but otherwise she just soaks up the sun and is starting to flower. She looks real happy. Normally by this time she’d be harvested.
A few days ago I pruned her lower branches off; she looks good.
Day 74: It got down to 27 last night so I brought her in. I put her back out at 1130 this morning and it was sunny but only 36 degrees. It’s a test. In the direct sun it makes a difference and probably feels warmer.
Watered her w Bloom nutes at noon, 2 cans full. That’s one teaspoon for a gallon of dechlorinated water, which is ¼ of the recommended (for photoperiods I guess).
I see a lot of tiny little hairs starting to reach up skyward.
Warmer days ahead after tomorrow.
Day 75: She did well in the cold test, 36 degrees out but in the sun maybe a little warmer, and she’s still looking good. Cold resistant.
I put her back out at 1030am, temp around 35 but felt warmer than that in the direct sun.
Next time I water her I should check for runoff.
I brought her in to the tent (after it was freed up) end December, when it started getting especially cold outside. She's pretty stunted from the cold from the main cola to the side ones which are short. So I'm not expecting any huge yield whenever she's ready but this is mainly a test to see what I can get with lots of cold weather exposure during the whole veg stage.
I decided not to do LST since she was already stunted, so this is the natural shape for this cold grow.
The Mint Jelly did great with the cold weather challenge. Especially impressive bc the summer grow plant went through some heat waves and did fine, just ate it up.
I got 17.1 grams which is fine with me, wasn't expecting a big yield but really just testing the genetics. Humboldt Seed Co... what can I say. Can't wait to do more in 2024.
Smoke report after 2 weeks curing: amazing, excellent, smooth, very high with a few good puffs; the little pipes just right size for a strong high. Interestingly, even though some of my buds trikes were still clear it’s still getting me way higher than CB’s is with their own clear trikes. Anyway I’m loving the Mint Jelly
very nice. i just tapped into a jar i had curing for 9 months from my grow in july, only thing i taste in the smoke is a nice muted mint.
starting some skywalker og autos from barney’s farm in the next couple weeks
@SoCol, hey! A 9 month cure, nice... I've never had weed that long :) Good luck on the Barney's Skywalker - I'll be checking it out. I'm finishing up a FastBuds purple punch now which I'll put online sometime this month. and I'm germinating 3 humboldt Seed Co seeds right now for an outdoor grow... Happy Growing!
@@CRANKSTER_420, thanks man - yeah I've been doing autos for the speedier seed-to-harvest time, although the winter grow was unusually long. I've started a purple punch, will post that diary at some point soon. 👍
