The seeds were watered overnight. Most of the seeds were cracked the next day, so I planted them in the soil. I'm very excited to see how these outdoor varieties will develop. They won't be planted outside until the end of May to the beginning of June. I still have to decide whether to plant them directly in garden soil or in large pots on the ground. I'm a bit afraid of the voles that live in my garden. Day 3: All Frisian Dews start raising, two Shamans can be seen and one of the Durban Poison regulars.

Mostly all seeeds in the tray have germinated except the poor germination of Critical regular , only 6 from 10 and one Special Kush that's missing. They have been outside on the weekend, but turned inside again due to a wheather change. the 10 W lamps will help the small plants growing inside until it is warmer again. So I do have now 9 Durban Poison Regular, 3 Frisian Dew, 3 Shaman, all Dutch Passion. Durban Poison x Frisian Dew - Durban Dew Durban Poison x Granddaddy Purple - Cherry Pie Let's see if I will get it running. Day9: the stems are getting to long, so I put the plants nearer to the lamp, hope it helps. The next leaves developing. Day10: One of the Durban Poison seedlings is a 3-leaf seedling. Ok, welcome! Day13: First fertilization

The seedlings all grow, but differently. The 10 W. light is sufficient during the day together with the daylight, until 23:00 the LED light alone continues to illuminate. However, I have noticed a discrepancy; in many descriptions I have read that the plants from regular seeds are much more potent and vigorous than the feminised ones. However, this is not the case for me. The regular plants are clearly different and not as vigorous as the plants grown from feminised seeds. Although some feminised seeds were already ordered last year. And unbelievably, some plants are already fragrant at this size. The plants survived the repotting very well and the root growth was also quite good for the time after 2 weeks.

The weather should finally improve. That's why I've already put them outside to harden off, so that the stems can also harden off a little and withstand bad weather. They have grown too much in the last week after repotting.

Some of the ladies got sunburnt because I put them in direct sunlight without hardening them. Some more than others. This week they were placed in larger pots of approx. 3 litres in pre-fertilised peat-free soil. Then it got windy and we had a heavy thunderstorm. They survived it very well and in my opinion have only grown stronger. After the fourth leaf node, I started topping the plants. So far I can say that Frisian Dew produces the strongest plants with slight sunburn. Durban poison plants have remained somewhat smaller and are most affected by sunburn. Shaman has virtually no sunburn damage and is slightly smaller than Frisian Dew, but looks very healthy and vigorous. However, none of the plants have died, the Durban Poisons are recovering very quickly. Day 35: Frisian Dew and Shaman are real outdoor cracks as far as growth and weather resistance are concerned. The Durban Poison plants are a little more reserved, which is due to the fact that they were regular seeds. A selection still needs to be made. Frisian Dew and Shaman have now been given their final place in 60 litre and 45 litre pots on the patio. The soil used is a mixture of mature compost, garden soil, peat-free potting compost and horn meal (I couldn't find my cattle manure pellets). A non-sticky soil mixture. Summer can come. Maybe they'll grow big enough to work as a privacy screen.

Shaman and Frisian Dew are growing mercilessly in height and width and seem ideally suited to my climate. They have responded well to the fertiliser and the soil. The ladies of these varieties, which I planted directly in prepared garden soil, are smaller in size. I was much more careful with the soil in the pots than with the soil in the garden. I will bear this in mind for next season. I find it much more difficult to handle the Durban Poison plants from regular seed. So far I have identified three male specimens, one of which I removed from the pot when it showed signs of male flowering. Hopefully the plant I have now planted is female. It is still too small for cuttings. Pests such as aphids are present but not yet a threat. There was slug damage to a Frisian Dew in the garden soil, so I sprinkled slug pellets in a 1.5 metre radius around the two plants for three consecutive days until no more pellets were picked up.

Frisian Dew and Shaman are doing splendidly in the larger pots, a success story so far. FD and Shaman in the garden soil are a little behind, but are continuing to develop. Slugs and snails remain a problem, especially after these rainy weeks. Durban Poison from regular seed; a failure so far, perhaps they need the warmer climate in the polytunnel that is being set up. So far I have seen some male Durban Poisons, but which ones are definitely female? It remains exciting. Breeding is different from growing. It has been a very uncomfortable week, also known as the "sheep cold". Lots of wind, lots of rain and temperatures down to 5°C at night. I'm glad I built a support frame for the large plants, otherwise a few branches would have broken off. The plants in the pots are doing well, even those planted directly in the garden soil seem to be settling in. There are no pests to speak of. The first grid is reached. Frisian Dew demonstrates its unbridled growth power. Outdoors, some slugs have tried their hand at Frisian Dew and Shaman, but they don't seem to like them very much, otherwise the damage would be greater. I must have tried to tame Shaman too early, as it overgrows the grid considerably. Frisian Dew has reached the second grid, at the rate it is growing it will soon be in the third and final grid. The humid tropical weather at the moment is causing the plants to literally explode in growth. Even the problem child Durban Poison has put on a huge amount of weight and seems to have got used to the pot. The leaves are now dark green, a good sign of nutrient uptake. This week, all plants have further expanded their growth potential. The Durban Poison shows a slightly different growth than the others. Its leaves remain somewhat closer to the main stem and steep side shoots grow out everywhere, which gradually bow horizontally as they grow in length and weight. It is a pleasure to watch them grow. Frisian Dew no longer grows with their leaves developing in parallel, but staggered. This probably makes them grow even faster. Frisian Dew has grown through the last trellis, with a respectable length growth of 26 cm this week. A few snails have made a mess of the plants outside, but nothing tragic. The biggest increase in length, however, was on the Shaman in the garden with a growth of 30 cm. The garden is catching up. A couple of tops were topped on the Shaman to limit the height growth, but I think it was pointless. No fertiliser was needed as the fertiliser was added to the soil when potting up. One thing to note though, the water requirement in several days of heat is enormous, they don't like to dry out. They had to be watered several times a day, the smaller the pot, the more often; automatic watering would help here. Durban Poison amazes me more and more, from a weakening plant to such a weekly growth, that is enormous, 20 cm in one week! I'm already used to it from Frisian Dew, which has grown 26 cm in the last week. What other heights do they want to reach? The ladies in the garden soil are catching up, even if slugs have to be removed from the leaves every evening or after heavy rain. Long live the home office. If I hadn't topped Frisian Dew a few weeks ago, it would certainly have reached a height of 2 metres by now. The same applies to the Shaman in a pot, there's no need to top it, it does well as a privacy screen. What is noticeable, however, is that with the size of the plants in the pot, rain is no longer suitable to quench their thirst. They have to be watered twice a day, once is not possible because otherwise the water would run out again. However, fertilisation is not yet necessary. 2024.07.14 The week was very changeable with heavy rain, sun and lots of wind. The ladies coped well and continued to grow. To avoid having to use liquid fertiliser all the time, I applied a top layer consisting of worm compost, compost, malted barley, horn meal and pelleted cattle manure to all the potted plants. The malted barley is supposed to bring enzymes and minerals into the soil, which will also be important for later flowering. The top layer is approx. 3-4 cm thick. They have been very, very thirsty in hot weather. Perhaps the new top layer will hold a little more water. Of course, the plants in the garden soil need much less water than those in the pots. The growth is phenomenal, the Durban Poison is also growing very well. The Frisain Dew and Shaman continue to hold their own in the garden soil when snails are collected daily... The side branches now seem to be leaning a little further down, making them wider, so they may need to be spaced a little further apart. The plants look a bit damaged and need some care as I was on holiday for a couple of weeks. They have been watered every 2-3 days but have not received any further care, despite this they have grown quite a bit. Durban Poison is the first to start flowering. Frisian Dew wants to continue growing skywards, I think the story of the beans growing up to the sky will soon have to be rewritten. I will then hire a ladder to measure the size of the Frisian Dew. The Shaman and the Frisian Dew are about to start flowering in the second week of August. The Shaman in the garden has had a huge growth spurt. It was a mixed week but with lots of sun towards the end. The plants in the pots are no longer growing so strongly, the outdoor plants in the pots are catching up. Unfortunately only the Durban Poison is still flowering, but the internodes of the other plants are getting shorter and shorter, so I'm confident that the other plants will start flowering soon. Automatic watering would definitely be an advantage, the Frisian Dew needs 12 litres of water on a hot, sunny day. All plants were fertilised with malted barley and some horn meal, they started to show slightly yellowish leaves, this has now been fixed. It was probably the hottest week of the year with a maximum of 34° C, a lot of water had to be administered, especially the Frisian Dew in the pot. On the other hand, I continue to enjoy the good appearance of the plants, with no pests, caterpillars, aphids or similar to be found so far. Even the slugs are no longer interested in the leaves, there are now so many flowers in the garden that simply taste better. As the flowering that I have read about already begins with the pre-flowering, I can say that all the plants in this report are flowering. Only the Durban Poison is by far the fastest and is already producing buds and seeds. As I had used regular seed for the Durban Poison, I fertilised it with pollen from a remaining male Durban Poison. The seed pods are already visible and look promising. The Durban Poison flowers are purple in depth, at least in my phenotype, and it doesn't need as much water as Frisian Dew and Shaman. The Shaman and Frisian Dew in the garden are showing their best side and continue to grow diligently, they need much less water than the others, probably due to roots that reach deep down. Do Durban Poison, Frisian Dew and Shaman actually have tap roots? However, I would really like all the plants to start producing flower buds now, as it is already mid-August. Durban Poison The Durban Poison is giving me great pleasure with the steady increase in buds. It is still growing minimally. I have removed several leaves and am trying to leave only those on the plant where I cannot (yet) see the stems. Hopefully this will give the plant enough strength to continue developing the buds. The smell of the Durban Poison is quite peculiar; sweet in any case, but otherwise difficult to describe, perhaps a little clove and cinnamon, a little perfumed with a slight animal note. The strong wind on two days of the week did nothing to it, it is one of the few plants that has not been topped or pruned in any way. This makes it more elastic, as the strain is on the entire main stem and not on the lower parts of the toppings. Frisian Dew Just to give you a quick update on the Frisian Dew, it's now reached 2.40 m in height and is in full bloom. :) I moved her to a wind-sheltered spot before the storm to prevent damage from the strong winds. The FD in the pot is showing signs of growth, with small buds emerging. The lady in the garden is a little later. Otherwise, everything seems to be looking good, and I hope it stays that way. Shaman The shaman is finally in bloom and looks healthy. The same goes for its sister in the garden. Now is the time to reduce the nitrogen fertiliser and increase the phosphor and potassium. All the plants have been lightly defoiliated apart from those in the garden. This is to give the buds more light. A very sunny, warm week has come to an end, the ladies had to be supplied with plenty of water and have continued to develop in terms of flowers. The Durban Poison colas are getting thicker and thicker, there are two scents; the scent when only smelling the flowers and the scent when rubbing the leaves on the colas. The scent when rubbing the leaves is much more pleasant, spicy and sweet, the other is difficult to describe, animal-like. It seems that Durban Poison will still be ready for harvest in September. The colour of the leaves on the colas is interesting, they are a dark purple and this is where most of the terpenes are found, not on the green leaves. Frisian Dew and Shaman now have recognisable flower buds developing along the tips of the shoots and branches, and there is still some growth to be seen on the plants in the garden soil. I'm hoping for a warm, sunny September with little rain :) Fertilised with wood ash and a flower fertiliser. If you are wondering about the paving stones on the pots, these are intended to protect against gusts of wind that can sometimes occur. If there is not much water left in the pots, the plants could fall over without the stabilisation of the stones due to the large leaf mass. It's just stupid if the gusts of wind then blow from a different direction... Therefore, a clear recommendation in favour of ceramic pots. Summer is leaving, the rain is coming, but I hope Durban Poison, Frisian Dew and Shaman can withstand the wet weather. The Durban Poison could be ready to harvest, the production of pistils has slowed down a lot. After yesterday's rain, even its typical scent seems to have been washed away. The Frisian Dew in the pot develops thick buds and no longer grows in height, the one in the garden continues to grow and only has narrow flowers. The scent of the buds is resinous, pine-like, with hints of retsina wine. It's unbelievable how much water Frisian Dew needs, Durban Poison only needs about a third. The Shaman in the pot is a joy to behold. Its buds and its flowery, slightly resinous scent are convincing. Fortunately, late summer has arrived after all. Although it rained heavily for three days this week, all the plants are still doing well. With the Durban Poison, I'm not sure whether it's time to harvest. The dark purple leaves make it difficult to see whether the trichomes have already turned dark. Where the seeds are located, individual leaves curl up and dry out. The Shaman plants continue to thrive, flowering a little further in the pot than in the garden soil. Individual leaves are turning a slightly reddish color, probably due to the cold nights at 5-7° C. The Shaman in the garden soil has developed very well in the last few weeks and is getting several thick colas. Frisian Dew in a pot is getting very thick colas. All plants with the exception of Frisian Dew in garden soil have stopped growing in length, it has grown another 3 cm and is lagging behind in flower growth. It was interesting to see how the roots grow to the surface, where the fungal mycelium and the malted barley are to be found. Covering the soil with something that retains moisture accelerates root growth and nutrient conversion. I have two different phenotypes of Frisian Dew. One has already been harvested, while the second, at the end of the garden, is only now coming into main bloom. The yield of Frisian Dew in the pot was already gigantic as a raw trim, already 2245 g. I need more jars, the bigger the better. 😁 I had to harvest the first FD due to the slight mould appearing on some of the flowers. Now it's in the sieve drying process before I have to make room in the dehydrator again.

It was another two beautiful, sunny weeks that have now come to an end. To be on the safe side, I examined Durban Poison, Shaman and Frisian Dew more closely and found that all the ladies, with the exception of Frisia n Dew, which are in the garden, had initially developed mould in the flowers. In addition, some green caterpillars fell out of the Durban Poison when the plant was shaken. Durban Poison had also completely stopped flowering, which I found unusual. I therefore decided to harvest all the ladies, except for Frisian Dew in the garden. This Frisian Dew is only now entering its main bloom and is not yet so susceptible. Durban Poison has developed very thick and heavy colas, followed by Shaman and Frisian Dew. See the picture with the scale. I was able to weigh a part of the harvest after the raw trimming, then at the weekend the batteries of the digital scale were empty. It will take a few more days until everything is dried and stored in jars for maturing but one thing is for sure, it's quite a lot. The plants are still standing with remaining flowers to see how they will handle the coming bad weather.

When I saw some mold occur, I decided to harvest both plants. They had big colas, that were easy to raw trim. They are drying in a sieve and some are already in the dehydrator.
