Germination

hampfi Just in time for the Federal Council's decision, here comes my first auto-grow. For now, still in the small box; once the big ones are harvested, they'll swap, and the small box will be used for drying.

hampfi Tough start, somehow germination isn't going well right now. Number 1 still has the seed leaves almost closed, I found number 2 while sifting through the soil on day 10 and planted it properly.

hampfi Number one didn't make it, number 2 is growing super slowly - I think autos are sensitive. The second set of leaves is coming in after the cotyledons, but they're so tiny that you can only really see them in the photos.

Has anyone had experiences with such late bloomers? Will it still flower? It's about 2 weeks behind... We're now in week 6.

I don't think you're as behind as you think. I probably would have considered those week1 pictures as the end of your germination period. Plant looks healthy. It should start transitioning soon.

Can someone tell me the best way to germinate seeds from autoflowering strains? It hasn't worked for me so far when I went straight into soil.

Hey there! I'm no pro, literally just started. But my seeds get germinated pretty well but soaking them in glass of water for a day and then using wet paper towel inside a sealed plastic bag (like a ziploc or sandwich bag) for about 3 days. I leave the bag in between two plates since they need darkness. However, I leave the plates out on my balcony. I live in a pretty tropical climate so the warmth and darkness together work each and everytime.

If you have a lot of attention, which I assume you do: Put it in a paper towel/toilet paper. Soak it completely and wring it out well. It should be quite damp, but not completely soaked with excess water. Then place the paper towel with the seed between two plates for consistent humidity and darkness. Keep moistening it again if it dries out for any reason; spray bottles work perfectly for that, you can also spray the inside of the plate. Open the towel regularly so the roots don’t grow into the paper towel. Or Put it in a glass of water, place it in the dark, and keep an eye on it to make sure the seeds don’t sink. If they do, plant them; otherwise, wait until you have your desired root length. Then plant it so that the root is in the soil, with the shell or sprout lying on the surface, so to speak, just bury the root. You can do this with a root length of 1cm+; otherwise, it’s really tight, very tight. Max 3mm into the soil, really just cover it. You can add more soil later if you want.

Soak for 24 hours in room temperature warm water, then pour onto kitchen paper and let germinate in a plastic bag for at least 24 hours. When the root is about 5-10mm long, stick it in the soil. I've never had problems with this method. If I have very potent seeds, they sometimes germinate in the water already, and you can skip the kitchen paper step.
