Had a hard time getting my seeds going. It was primarily due to the fact that I was traveling a lot and I was either over watering causing damping off or under watering causing them to wilt and die. I ended up getting a hodgepodge of genetics to fill my garden this round. The lineup is as follows:
2 Royal 👑 🦍 Gorilla by Royal Queen Seeds
1 Gorilla 🦍 💣 Bomb by Bomb Seeds
2 Velvet Bud by Seedsman Seeds

This week I moved the plants into their final homes 🏠, the Recirculating Deep Water Culture room. The room itself is a 5x5 Gorilla Grow tent ⛺️currently housing 5, 8 gallon buckets connected by a 1/2 inch feed-line at the bottom of the buckets, and a 3/4 drain-line the top of each bucket which carries the drained solution back to my reservoir. Each bucket has a 4 inch air-stone connected to a 60 liter air pump proving maximum air saturation in the solution. The room is illuminated by a 900 Watt COB LED fixture built for me by Timber Grow Lights.
I am running JR Peters JACK’s powdered nutrients currently at 30% adding in GH Rapid Start, & Hydroguard for root stimulation and reservoir cleanliness. I have also added Terpinator back into my rez formula. I had dropped the Terpinator last round and I severely regretted it as the smell of my medicine was lacking compared to previous rounds when I did use the Terpinator.
Transplant went Very well, but I did experience a little bit of transplant shock do to my lights been closer then they should have been. They were transplanted from a 25 W fluorescent bulb to the 900 W LED.

This was the 2nd full week of vegetation in the Deep Water 💦 Culture room under the 900 watt “Fatty” created for me by Timber Grow Lights. The PPM’s in the reservoir has been between 380 - 420 which is a little bit high for 2 weeks into Veg, however, the plants are not showing any signs of nutrient burn. I am running JR Peters Jacks powdered nutrients at 30% strength and if you look in the nutrient section of this post the amount of Epsom Salts, Jacks Hydroponic, and the Jacks Calcium Nitrate are all listed in Grams per 5 gallons because I make my nutrients in 5 gallon batches. So, for week 2 of Veg I used 4.5 grams of Jacks Hydroponic 5-12-26 per 5 gallons, 2.7 grams of Jacks Hydroponic Calcium Nitrate per 5 gallons, and 1.5 grams of Epsom Salts per 5 gallons.
The ladies are doing tremendously well and growing with a vigor that I have not seen yet in the garden. I had to leave town for 4 days, and upon my return the ladies had more than doubled in my absence. I plan to begin my topping and training in the next week, which will probably push my Veg to around 6 weeks in order to properly build my canopy. I will also be installing tomato 🍅cages next week for support for instead of the scrog net which I used (& hated) last round.
“Keep it Safe, Keep It Green, & Smoke 💨 It Up!!!”
It has been 21 days since the ladies have been transplanted into the Recirculating Deep Water 💦 Culture buckets under the 900 Watt COB LED and I couldn’t be happier with their progress. The ladies have now undergone their first topping along with a defoliation to get more light into the center of the plants.
I am in the process of building the base structure of my plants and I am doing so by using a modified manifold. I decided to go with a plus shaped manifold as a way to decrease the Veg times necessary to grow a manifolded plant. Over the next two weeks I fully expect the canopy to spread and cover the footprint of the room. Once the plants grow to the second ring of the tomato cages I will induce flowering.
I have to say that I am tremendously impressed with the JR Peter’s jacks powdered hydroponic nutrients. Mixing nutrients and reservoir change outs have become a breeze, and best of all is that the plants absolutely love that shit. I am currently running the nutrients at 30% of their recommended strength. At 30% my PMs R just shy of 400 PPM when I make a fresh batch of nutrients. I plan to run the same formula from transplant through until flush with the only change being the strength of the solution. Each week I increase the strength of the solution and will continue to do so until roughly week seven of flower.

So we are getting to the end of week 4 of Veg in the Recirculating Deep Water 💦 Culture buckets and I have just completed a complete nutrient change out. I refilled the system with nutrients mixed at 40% of the recommended strength. My recipe for week 4 of Veg is as follows:
Jacks Hydroponic 5-12-26: 6 grams per 5 gallons
Jacks Calcium Nitrate 15-0-0: 3.6 grams per 5 gallons
Terpinator: 25 ml per 5 gallons
Hydroguard: 10 ml per 5 gallons
Orca: 2.5 ml per 5 gallons
Rapid Start: 5 ml per 5 gallons
When mixed the solution comes at 480 PPM on the 500 scale.
Plants are absolutely loving the formula, and I’m not showing any signs of nutrient deficiencies or overfertilization. Using the jacks is made nutrients change outs mixing in general it breeze using the Jack’s nutrients change outs & mixing in general a breeze. The Plus shipped modified manifold is growing exactly the way that I had intended it to. Each of the plants has been growing horizontally and beginning to fill out an even canopy as was intended with the way I tied down the branches.
I accidentally broke one of the main arms on the Gorilla 🦍 Bomb 💣, however, due to the fact that there was some skin still connecting the arm I was able to tape the arm back to the man stalk of the plant with electrical tape. 7 days later the tape was removed in the plant had formed a large knuckles where the brake had been. Love the resiliency of the cannabis plant, as losing that ranch probably would have cut down my yield on that one plant by about 30%. Check out how they look 👀 as I post bi-weekly videos to my YouTube channel:

Nothing major to talk about this week. The plants all seem to be doing well. I have noticed a small calcium deficiency with a couple of the plants, so I will be adjusting my nutrient formula to add more Calcium Nitrate to my mix. I am defoliating every 4-5 days to keep my garden growing how I would like it too. This will probably be the last week of Veg as my plants 🌱 have filled enough of the room to completely fill the room once the flowering stretch completes.

Week 7 of Veg and I did the last major defoliation before putting the garden into flower 🌺. I also increased my ppm’s this week to about 750 and kicked the COB LED’s into high gear. The ladies all look 👀 beautiful, and ready to stretch out and fill the footprint 👣 of the garden...

Week 2 of flower 🌹 is coming to an end and the garden is looking fabulous. I normally defoliate every 3-4 days, but my work schedule has not allowed me to do so. This round I waited 14 days from flower to to do my 1st defoliation, and my plan is to defoliate every 14 days going forward. The stretch has nicely filled out the garden, and the heavy defoliation will allow light to penetrate the canopy increasing the bud development lower down the plant 🌱.

Week 2 of flower 🌹 went off without a hitch. I usually defoliate every 3-4 days, but this round I stripped the plants 🌱 & flipped the lights to 12/12, and waited a full 2 weeks before doing my first major defoliation. The stretch has been pretty good on 3 of the 5 plants 🌱 in the room, but the footprint 👣 of the room is completely filled in. I think that I will wait till the end of week 4 till I do a complete defoliation again. Pumped up the strength of the nutrient solution to roughly 950 ppm and the ladies are not showing and nutrient deficiencies or nute burn.

Week 3 has come and gone with very little to discuss. I have not defoliated since day 14 and will probably wait till at day 28 at the earliest. The garden is stretching nicely, and I will probably have to raise the lights soon as I have a few branches coming close to the light 💡. Buds have completely formed all over the canopy and after my day 28 defoliation we should see the lowers starting to fill out as well. I added 10 gallons of nutrients and 5 gallons of water 💦 throughout the week as the garden is pulling about 3 gallons a day from the reservoir.

So we are at the end of week 4 of flower 🌹 and the garden is exceeding my expectations at this point. I am a big time defoliator, however, a change in my day job has left me with significantly less time to devote to the garden. In the past I would defoliate every 3-5 days. Doing so would Keep the garden shorter with greater development down in the lower areas of the plants 🌱. Due to my new work schedule, I have changed the way I defoliate and I am only defoliating every 2 weeks. I did a major defoliation the day I switched the light cycle to 12/12, then I waited till day 14 for the next trim out, and then waited till day 28 to do the 3rd defoliation. Knowing how these plants grow, I am thinking that the day 42 defoliation will probably be my last as the plants don’t really put out too many additional leaves 🍁 after day 40 of flower. I have noticed that by waiting 2 weeks in between defoliations the garden has stretched considerably more then if I were doing a defoliation every 3-4 days, and the resulting stretched out arms have great bud development from the top all the way down. The lowers are less developed, however, I fully expect them to develop more now that the defoliation has taken place and light is now penetrating to those lower areas. Overall I am super happy with the grow thus far!!!

So week 5 of flower 🌺 was a fairly quiet one. I started the week with a full 40 gallon nutrient change out. The new Jacks Hydroponic mix that I am using made the task an hour and a half worth of work vs. roughly 4 hours it used to take when I was mixing 14 different bottles together. I am running it at a 3,2,1 ratio with some added Terpinator, Orca, Hydroguard, and liquid Koolbloom. Buds have formed everywhere in the garden and everything is now starting to bulk up nicely. I’ve noticed some new coloring on fresh calyx’s on the 2 Gorilla 🦍 strains.
The Velvet Bud is still very white in the pistil coloring, but as I get into the last few weeks of flower 🌸 I expect that the change significantly.
We are at day 35 of all 8-10 week strains, and I think 🤔 I will be going the full 70 days.... only time will tell though. I have not seen a single gnat on any of my traps or in the air this round and that makes me happy. Last round I forgot to cover my medium with tin foil and yellow stickies and was regretting it in week 5. This round, not a pest in sight 🦗🕷️🦖

Week 6 of flower 🌸 is coming to a close without much to discuss. The plants are starting to push out additional calyx’s with real cool coloring. I should have better pictures of that next week as I will let be getting in the garden this weekend to do the final day 42 defoliation. After this eeekends trim, there will be no further defoliation until I am harvesting the plants. I plan on feeding for 2 more weeks and then switching to flush for the final 2 weeks. The week 4 defoliation can be seen in the following video from my YouTube Channel:

At the beginning of week 7 of Flower I noticed that what I thought was additional calyx’s forming on the larger of the Royal Gorilla’s was actually the plant beginning to herm on me. I immediately pulled the plant as I did not want it to mess up any of the other plants in the garden. While I think will be a little bit of a loss due to the fact that I had to pull it 2 weeks early, as a Rosin producer I will put the entire plant through my bubble washer and just extract all of the trichomes that had formed prior to the plant herming.
The other 4 plants in the garden are doing wonderful. I added in some Koolbloom powder for this week as a ripener as I plan to begin flushing at the end of the week. That will give the garden a 7 day flush using GH Florakleen.
So this was the final week of my 2018-2019 winter grow. Prior to the final week I drained all of the nutrients and replaced the solution with my flushing solution of Florakleen at 10 ml/gal. I had harvested one of the Royal 👑 Gorillas 🦍 a few weeks ago due to herming, so I was only cutting down the last 4 plants in the garden. While I do not have any dry weights yet, I filled 12 hangers to dry which is about 3 more than I ever have in the past. My goal for the round was 40 oz’s, and while I suspect I have hit that goal, I will not know for sure for at least another week of drying, and about 2 weeks of curing before I tally final weights for the room. The bud quality was also some of the best to come out of my garden and I suspect that the Jacks Hydroponic powdered nutrients had something to do with that. The only gripe I had was that the stalks were very rubbery and easily breakable. This can partly be blamed on the manifolded plants which require much more support, but I also did not use any silica during this grow. Silica has been a staple in my garden, but I decided to see the effects without it. Well, in DWC I think it is really important additive as there is no natural silicate in the medium. I will be atting this back into the mix next round.
