On 3/26/24 around 9:00 am, I soaked 3 seeds in a shot glass full distilled water with SEA-90 Ocean Minerals. By 4:10 pm same day, all 3 seeds sunk to the bottom. Around 8:30 pm same day, I put the seeds on a paper towel with more ocean mineral water in a plastic bag, put them on a plate on top of a seed warmer and covered them with another plate. By 3/29 all 3 taproots were out of their shells. On 3/30 I planted all 3 seeds. The taproot was just barely out of the third seed and I had some concerns about planting this one with the other two at the same time and was considering letting it go in the paper towel until the taproot got a little longer. However, I decided to just plant them all at the same time. On 4/1, two of the three seeds cracked the surface. On 4/2, the tent door slipped out of my hand and killed the third seedling so I ended up germinating another seed that also successfully germinated and cracked the surface on 4/11. This third seedling is now about 10 days behind the other two. Aside from my stupid mistake, everything has gone well during this process.
The weather here in Colorado has been back and forth, per usual. It has been in the 80's and then snowed last night (4/19) so the humidity/temps have been variable inside the tent. On 4/11, I turned my third light off because it was getting into the low 80's inside the tent as it was very hot outside that week. I have Blumat water meters and water each pot when it gets to about 70-80 mbar. I find that about 1/3 of a gallon tends to be the sweet spot when it comes to watering. On 4/14, I raised my lights up to 33" and turned the LEDs down to 80% as I noticed an upward curling on a few of the leaves. On 4/18, turned the LEDs back up to 100%. The two big plants are getting about 310-315 PPFD and the little one is getting about 280. On 4/19 around 5:30 pm I began LST on the two larger plants. This is the first time I have done LST so I am excited to see how this impacts plant growth. The little plant is starting to grow quickly now.
Week 2 of veg is going great. These girls are requiring a lot of training and at first I put the ties into the soil but the plants are growing so fast that they ripped the ties out of the soil! So I had to start using some binder clips to hold the ties to the pot. Aside from that, the smaller plant that's 10 days behind the other two will be ready to train this upcoming week. Nothing much else to report on. I have noticed one or two gnats in the tent this past week but that's to be expected with growing in living/organic soil.
This week has gone great and it's crazy to see how fast they have grown over the past 7 days. LST is starting to show it's benefits as I am counting at least 7 tops on each of the two larger plants. They are each drinking about 1/3 of a gallon of water per day. I just did a light top dressing of worm castings on 5/5. For the upcoming week, I'll be working on using the training wire to pull the tops apart to give them each their own space to thrive.
