Elyxion While my first grow is still in the flowering stage, I found 2x5L of Bonsai soil (Compo Sana, sealed!) in the basement and thought I'd try a "budget" grow with stuff I have at home and just see what happens ¯_(ツ)_/¯. The goal is to raise 2 seeds of Purple Haze Automatic in the soil. These will be grown in a DIY grow box made from an old small living room cabinet. The seeds were planted in small peat pots with the remnants of my BB LightMix soil and initially placed in the large grow box until the DIY box was ready. The seeds germinated after three days and were then transferred to the final pot. Regarding the Bonsai soil: I measured the pH and ppm. The pH was at 5.5, which I thought was a bit too acidic, so I adjusted it to about 6.5 by adding calcium carbonate. I also "flushed" the soil once, as it was heavily pre-fertilized (1500 ppm). I don't know if I measured correctly, but after flushing, the ppm was around 500. I also added vermiculite and perlite to the soil. Still, I started with the remaining BB soil because I wanted to avoid an initial "nutrient shock.

Elyxion After the first week, the plants looked really good. One is a bit ahead of the others, but the germination was also about two days later for the "Slow One." I applied LST right in the first week, just to see what happens and to make the most of my limited space. Let's see how they react in the next week. Currently, they're still stretching nicely upwards.

Elyxion At the start of the third week, I learned my lesson. The plants reacted poorly to the early LST (who would have thought). The main stems turned dark purple, so I removed the garden wires. However, the plants quickly recovered, as the stems now look healthy again. Midweek, I topped the big plant (between the 3rd and 4th node). I gave the little one three more days and then topped it as well. Both received fertilizer for the first time after the treatment.

Elyxion At the start of the new week, I removed the large leaves for space reasons and evenly spread the side shoots with wire. The big plant looks great. With the little lady, I could have waited a few more days; I was a bit hasty again. The side shoots were still relatively short, so the LST was done more poorly than well. Now it's done, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the two have recovered in a few days. The week also started with fertilizing, with each plant getting 0.5L.

Elyxion The pictures speak for themselves. The ladies are growing and thriving. The one on the left is obviously a bit more reserved than the one on the right, but she is still healthy and green. I'm optimistic! I suspect that FIMming worked on the right one, as she has developed a total of 8 shoots. I'm trying to keep all the tops at the same height using LST. After the grow, I need to install a setup in my DIY box where I can attach a SCROG net/grid.

Elyxion I've been really busy with work and the harvest of my first grow over the last two weeks. That's why I only noticed how much the soil had sunk in during the first week of flowering. I had watered with 0.75 liters each time, and the soup just flowed right through the pot. During those days, I was preparing for my next grow and had some leftover substrate (BioBizz Light Mix + 30% clay pebbles). I used that to easily refill the buckets. No idea if it will help, but I feel much better now! Since I'm expecting a little growth spurt in the next two weeks, I defoliated a bit more and adjusted the LST. I won't be tying much more down since the stems are getting woody and stiff, and I don't want to risk any injuries. I'm really happy with the canopy. The little plant (on the left) has caught up nicely, which makes me very happy too!
