This was/is my very first grow ever. I ordered a few seeds online and got the Fast Buds Gelato Auto seed as a freebie. I decided that this one was the one I'd try to grow first and put it in plain tap water for about 48 hours. The small bowl was kept in a kitchen cupboard (in the dark) and was checked three times total.
After the root was showing, I carefully transferred the seed into a small (0.25 L) pot filled with BioBizz Light Mix and put that in a small greenhouse box inside my grow tent. I switched the lights on (lowest setting, which is 10 watts, I believe) and kept the soil moist (not wet) by spraying it every morning and every evening (tap water at room temperature).
After just three days, the seedling was visible. That's when she got her name - Ginny. I decided to name every plant I grow after a female movie or game character that starts with the same letter as the strain. It's a bit silly, I know, but I think it's fun as well.
Her first week after germination was a rough one. I messed up - had to leave for about 36 hours and came back to a stretched, thin seedling. She had doubled in size, but sadly only lengthwise. At first, I was concerned that I'd basically killed her, but she pulled through. And so at the end of the week I decided to put her in her new home. She had spread her roots across the whole pot and needed a bigger home. Her new pot was an 8L fabric pot.
I then removed the greenhouse (obviously) and switched on the fans.
After I messed up in the first week, she really seemed to like her new home. After a few days, when her roots had settled in, I guess, she started growing bigger and bigger leaves quite quickly.
I did not water her, but instead sprayed the soil with water in the morning and the evening. At first I only sprayed the center of the pot, where the roots are. Later on, I started spraying the whole surface. I did not measure the amount I sprayed, but it wasn't much. Maybe 100ml per application (max).
In her 3rd vegetation week, I finally started actually watering her. I still sprayed the surface, more generously now, to prepare the soil to take up all the water. She got 2x500ml (on two days in a row), the first 500ml with some Bio-Grow (2ml/liter). As this is my very first grow, I was very careful with giving any nutrients, as I did not know whether the soil nutrients were already enough. She seemed to like what I did, though.
Having the fans in the tent running (I keep them running 24/7) also seemed to help a lot with the stem. It thickened each day and became stronger. This was especially important because of how much she stretched in her first week
I'm pretty sure she went into flowering in this week, but at first she was in vegetation, so I count this as her fourth vegetation week.
I couldn't believe how fast the little one was growing, looking more than a Cannabis plant every day.
While still spraying the soil's surface twice a day, I also started giving her more water with more nutrients. In this week, she got about 2.5 liters with nutrients and I sprayed more generously still, so maybe add 1 or 1.5 liters to that in total.
She was now definitely flowering! I started to recognize the smell - very faintly, though. That would change in the next week, but for now I was delighted how fast she was growing. The flowers were now easily spottable and her stem was getting even thicker. The whole plant started to become bushier.
I still was cautious with the nutrients and decided to err on the lower end of the spectrum as this grow is not about optimizing results, but to get a feeling for the process.
Now she was starting to show what's what. Her flowers became more and more pronounced and the smell was kicking in. I personally love that smell, so opening the tent became one of my favourite things to do :)
I still watered by spraying the soil generously twice a day mainly, only giving water twice a week (once with nutrients, once without). All in all she got 2.5 liters plus what I sprayed on. That might have been another 2 liters, I estimate. I really should have measured, but I mostly sprayed until I felt the top soil was saturated and looked like the first few centimeters below the surface had gotten wet as well. I basically made sure that the soil never actually dried out.
Wow, what a gorgeous plant she is growing into! Her flowers are white(ish) and that is incredibly beautiful! I increased the nutrients a bit, as I believe she can handle them with ease now. Spraying the surface is still my main watering method, but I increased the amount I spray significantly, as she has become more thirsty as well. The smell has become even stronger and is very intense - but delightful in my opinion. If it weren't for the neighbors, I'd remove the filters.
Holy mother of weed! The last week has been incredible. She stopped stretching alltogether and seems to be putting all her efforts into her beautiful and - what's the word? - lush (?) flowers. The smell is amazing, sweet and rich. I water her two times a week (about a liter each time) and give her nutrients once a week, I still spray the soil twice a day, but have increased the amount I spray even more, as the soil seems to dry out pretty quickly.
I also got a microscope for my phone's camera in order to check the trichomes, as I don't think she will need much longer.
Alright, this is week 9. Starting off strong with some nice bud growth and trichomes really coming in nice. Still need to get the hang of capturing images with the microscope I have, but it kinda works.
On day 56 of her life, she got another liter of plain water (no added nutrients). I keep repeating myself, but for documentation purposes: I still spray the soil's surface with plain tap water twice a day.
