Day 0: First grow, very excite. Put these two beans in the hot water cupboard today. It's winter here so trying to keep them warm. Grow on!
Day 2: Germination! One has sprouted much more than the other one. Thought I might as well plant 'em both.
Medium used was dirt from garden, perlite, compost and a little bit of seed mix.
Day 4: Alice has sprouted. Belinda spouted late in the day. Put a heater in the box because air temp is only 9 degrees this morning.
Day 6: last night I decided to switch to 24/0 on the lights, because it's so cold at nights here currently and also my DIy grow box has a few light leaks I have yet to fix. I put a phone running DroidCam in the box so I can monitor temperature from inside. Today I'm expecting delivery of some decent grunty server fans and temperature sensors so I can build myself a fan controller.
Day 7: The girls are doing ok by the looks. I've had trouble with humidity so I've been trying to keep the grow box hotter and more airflow. I decided to move the lights up a bit and put them on 100% to increase heat generation, and it definately helped a little. Today I worked on my fan controller with temp probes. Going to stick a probe near the top, near the plants and in the soil (after waterproofing). PC outside the box will run a webcam and monitor temperatures and set fan speeds using the controller (an Arduino board from my spare parts bin). I tested the new server fans and they are fucking grunty. Far too loud at max grunt, I expect to be using them around 20%. One will replace the current piddly exhaust fan (which will move inside the box to circulate air) and one instead of an oscillating fan. I intend to pulse the fan after some time duration.
Day 8: Still going great by the looks. Alice is just about to sprout the second set of cannabis leaves. Belinda is still a little behind but no worries, she's got plenty of time to shine! Today I fitted the new grunty exhaust fan and put a temperature probe at plant level. Temp sensor and fan control are done using an Arduino which talks to the "grow PC" which is connected to wireless, so I can now monitor temps and control fan speed from the comfort of my lounge PC. I also set up an old PS Eye camera I had as a webcam. I still have to install and wire one more fan at plant level.
Day 9: First set of true leaves got bigger, Alice looks like her next set is about to arrive. Soil is finally looking dry but it's still a bit moist under the surface, perhaps tomorrow they may be ready for water. Added another 120mm fan inside the box, for air circulation at plant height.
Day 10: Today I topped up the pots with compost, and gave them 50ml water each with 1:100 bokachi juice. They look good to me so far. Belinda has now caught up with Alice as far as leaf size is concerned. I figured out how to make timelapses with my webcam so stay tuned for a preview tomorrow :)
Day 14: All going ok. Alice has some colouration at the base of the leaves, I think she's ok. Belinda has now raced ahead and is wider than Alice.
Day 18: Planted them into their final pots. Had to compromise on pot size to fit them in. Next grow I might try one plant with a large pot. Took the plants about a day to come right, now it looks like they're off again. Possibly stunted growth due to low humidity, environment is all sorted now and under control.
Day 21: I found out I was giving the plants too much light. I had the app set to 18/6 for DLI but I'm giving them 24/0. Whoops! Otherwise seem to be doing ok, perhaps a bit behind because of the low humidity issue and the light issue.
Day 24: Had a first go at LST. I think I did it right?
Day 25: Growth seems to be pretty good. They've started to smell just a little, a delicious earthy cannabis smell. Lovely! Gave them a light feed of fish blood and bone, and bokachi juice. They seem to be responding well.
I've adjusted the days to now be from seedling, rather than germination. Please excuse the inconsistency!
I've stopped taking so many photos as I'm trying to keep the box closed to keep the heat in.
Day 23: looks like they may be entering pre-flower. I can see what looks like pistils on the stems. Very happy with their growth, Belinda is now the larger lady after being the runt for the first part of her life.
Day 25: I was having a bit of trouble training Belinda so I took most of her training string and pegs off. Now she looks nice and bushy. Alice is still trained and a bit smaller but otherwise OK. Watered them today along with organic fertiliser and topped up the pots with compost. I'm loving seeing the growth! Can't wait for that sweet, sweet harvest!!
Day 29, all going well. Almost ready for water.
Day 34, end of the week. The plants are starting to flower, very excite! They seem to be pumping along.
Day 36, smelling nice. Gave them a little trim. I think I've been overwatering Alice, Belinda is the thirstier of the two. Wil give Alice some time to dry out before her next drink.
Day 40. Let them dry out a bit before watering today. Also gave a foliar spray of epsom salt solution.
Dy 42, gave the plants some potash to provide some potassium. Seem to be doing well except for they are a bit short probably due to temperature issues.
Day 45: got rid of a few new bud sites on Belinda (the bushy one). She looks to be doing well, if not a little short. Alice was all good, nothing needed there. Alice's buds are really developing now, Belinda is somewhat behind in this department.
Day 47: Did a little defoliation on Alice to clear bud sites. Alice's buds are coming along really nicely and I think she's finished stretching. Belinda, on the other hand, still has much smaller bud development but she's still stretching like mad, about 10cm in 5 or so days. She's currently around 450mm tall. Gave them both a drink with molasses to see how that goes.
Day 49: Can't get the photos to upload for some reason, will try again another day. All going well, looks like the stretch is almost over. But sites on Alice are fattening up nicely. Belinda was thirsty and needed a drink, Alice was still ok so I'll leave her for a couple days.
Day 51: Gave them a water but they didn't take much, time to give them a proper dry out I think. Belinda is still stretching, she grew 40mm in 2 days. Alice only grew 10mm so I think she's don stretching, her bud sites are putting on bulk nicely.
Day 60: I accidentally let them get too dry, and I was watering them too fast. Now I'm using a spray bottle. They look a little worse for wear due to the drying out but I expect they will bounce back soon. Alice's buds are looking great, Belinda still has a long way to go to catch up.
Day 62: All seems to be going ok. Alice has nice trichome developlent and the leaves are starting to turn a bit purple. Belinda is still behind on bud development with no visible trichomes. Alice smells like pineapple, Belinda smells like hay. Getting excited to be on the home stretch! Maybe a couple weeks to go on Alice, Belinda I presume will need a bit longer.
Day 70, Alice is looking good, maybe only another week to go. The main cola has matured a bit quicker than the lower buds so I might do partial harvests as they come ready.
