Sadom 13.06.: Both seeds were planted in the soil today after being in the water bath for about 48 hours. 16.06.: PBB has managed to see the light of day. The G41 is still taking its time. 19.06.: Since the Gelato apparently didn't make it, a second seed was planted directly in the soil.

Sadom 22.06.: The second Gelato seed has finally popped its head out and is starting to develop as well. The Gelato is currently working on its second set of true leaves. 24.06.: Both haven't received any water yet, as there's still enough moisture in the pot. They're growing excellently, and it won't be long before they have rooted through the pot. 26.06.: It's going well.

Sadom 30.06.: The PBB has a few dried leaves and spots, probably because it was watered too late. The G41 has a lighter color on the outer side of the leaves. Maybe next time I'll add some CalMag to the water. 02.07.: The dried spots and leaves have now turned brown, but new ones are growing in. The vacation watering will now pay more attention to not letting them dry out so much. The G41 still has the light edges but is developing well. 04.07.: Both girls are developing well. The PBB still has the dried leaves, but I'm leaving them on since the plant can still draw nutrients from them. It won't be long before they are repotted into the big pots and the training can begin.

Sadom 08.07.: Both plants were transplanted into their large pots shortly after the lights came on and then watered with 4 liters each. I added some nettle tea, BioBizz Activera, and a bit of Crazy Hills Kickoff to the watering water that was given directly to the plants. I didn't measure anything and probably gave a bit too little rather than too much. After that, I watered the entire pot and the leaves of both plants with water to which I added some Aminosol. Unfortunately, I forgot to use mycorrhiza during the transplanting. I'm curious to see how they handle the transplanting.

Sadom 15.07.: Both plants were trained for the first time. I supercropped the main stem of both plants to allow more light to reach the lower branches. 16.07.: After not even 24 hours, both plants were standing upright again, and you can only tell that the G41 was trained by the spot where the main stem was injured. With the PBB, you can see a slight bend in the main stem, but it's not enough to provide the lower stems with enough light. 17.07.: I have now bent the main stem using 3D printed training clips. With the PBB, you can see light spots on the leaf edges, and the leaf tips are slightly burnt. I suspect that the lamp was a bit too close in between.

Sadom July 21: The PBB has developed slower compared to the G41. The spacing of the nodes on the G41 is also very wide and significantly larger than on the PBB. I've bent the main stems down again and also some side branches on the G41. July 22: Both have handled the training well. I topped the G41 on a side branch and supercropped another one to make it grow a bit bushier and slow down its growth so the PBB can catch up a little. Additionally, both plants were fertilized with insect frass and diatomaceous earth, and then watered. July 25: I bent the G41 again with a clip and freed a side branch on the PBB that was covered by a leaf. The PBB remains significantly smaller and bushier, while the G41 still has wide spacing and grows tall. I measured the light intensity with an app to get a rough idea. The automatic watering is currently running for 3 minutes daily when the lights come on.

Sadom 27.07.: At the beginning of week 6, I decided to top the G41 on most of the shoots. This way, I hope for a bushier growth with more shoots and more time for the PBB to catch up in size. At the cut points where the plant was topped, a red, almost blood-like sap has oozed out in some places. I've never heard or seen that happen before and don't know where it comes from. I hardly need to train the PBB, as the G41 requires more attention. Since the plants are getting bigger and the pots are drying out more over time, I’m extending the watering time to 5 minutes. 28.07.: Today, for the first time, I noticed the pistils on the PBB. So it’s already ready for flowering. I think this is because the PBB is an almost flowering strain. However, it still has to wait until it has fully filled its space. 30.07.: Both have grown well. The PBB has been able to catch up in height compared to the G41. Now they are almost the same size. Otherwise, there’s not much to do or notice. 01.08.: At the end of week 6, I installed the SCROG net. In the coming week, I will keep tucking the shoots under the net so that the lower shoots can catch up and a uniform growth can occur. I really like the number of shoots on the G41, but there’s still room for improvement with the PBB. However, I’m afraid that not much more will happen with the PBB. The next update will be in week 7.

Sadom 03.08.: In week 7, everything is going well so far. Both plants are drinking well, the G41 handled the last topping very well, and I'm still keeping the plants under the net for now. In the heat of the moment, I accidentally broke the main stem of the PBB. Since it didn't break completely, I left it attached. Currently, it looks like the break point has healed quite well. 05.08.: Since flowering is just around the corner, I thought I’d make the ladies a bit bare down below. So, I removed leaves and underdeveloped side shoots from the bottom of both the PBB and the G41. I was a bit more radical with the G41 than with the PBB, as the PBB has grown more open than the G41. In the end, only the part above the net will be well-formed and mature, as the lower region of the plants usually gets very little light. To prepare for flowering, both plants are getting a flowering top-dress today made from guano, soft rock phosphate, and the kick-flip. PBB: 50/40/70g G41: 70/60/100g 08.08.: Today, I just bent the shoots under the net so that they are all roughly at the same height. Since the space is now well filled by both plants, the moment has come to initiate flowering. The PBB already has so many pistils that it looks like it's already in bloom. Therefore, I think the PBB won't take long to flower.

Sadom 08.08.: Flowering Day 1 Today I just bent the shoots under the net so that they are all about the same height. Since the space is now well filled by both plants, the moment has come to initiate flowering. The PBB already has so many pistils that it looks like it's already in bloom. Therefore, I think the PBB won't take long to flower. We'll see. 12.08.: Flowering Day 5 In the last few days since switching the light cycle and initiating flowering, both plants have grown quite a bit above the net. Currently, there isn't much to do. Unfortunately, there are some thrips on the plants, but I've already released predatory mites. Hopefully, they can keep the thrips somewhat in check. Additionally, I've set the watering duration to 20 minutes when the light turns on and after 6 hours of light. If that isn't enough, I can still manually water or adjust the irrigation. I chose the lighting schedule so that the light turns on at 10 PM and off at 10 AM, so the lamp doesn't run during the hot hours of sunlight. 13.08.: Flowering Day 6 The stretch phase is still fully underway for both plants. Currently, they are growing about 6 cm per day on average. I'm curious to see at what height they will finish their stretch. The next update will be in flowering week 2.

Sadom 15.08.: The second week of flowering has begun, and both plants have developed well since the switch. Since I suspect that the G41 will continue to grow, I installed a second net for later stabilization. The second net is now hanging at a height of 1.30m, so the upper tips of the G41 are already poking through. To help the plants concentrate their energy on the important areas, I performed lollipopping on both plants. I removed all leaves, side shoots, and flower sites below the first net. These flower sites are so far down that they hardly receive any light and will end up being severely underdeveloped. Ideally, I would have waited a bit longer, but since I’ll be on vacation for the next 9 days, I wanted to get it done beforehand; the same goes for the net. Updates will also be rather difficult during this time, but maybe I’ll get a few photos sent to me. 18.08.: I received some photos. Apparently, the G41 is still in its stretch phase, as it has already grown quite a bit over the second net. 20.08.: Today, I got a small video and a photo of the G41. The growth is slowly decreasing, and you can see that the stretch is coming to an end. By the end of the second week of flowering, the G41 has completely outpaced the PBB in terms of height. Just as I suspected, the stretch of the PBB wasn’t that impressive, so it has remained significantly smaller than the G41. That’s one of the issues when you’re not growing a monocrop. Additionally, the water needs of the plants have decreased, so the watering currently runs for 10 minutes when the lights come on. I’ll be back home next week, then I’ll think about how to solve the problem, either with additional lighting, a third net to bend the G41 down a bit more, or both. Since my roommate is also leaving today before the start of week 3 of flowering, he sent me the current data of the plants yesterday. So it doesn’t quite match with the diary, but I think it’s the best compromise.

Sadom 22.08.: Flowering week 3 begins. I'm still on vacation until the end of the week, so unfortunately, I don't have any material from the beginning of the week. As soon as I'm back home, I'll give an update. I'm really curious to see how they've developed, but one thing's for sure, the G41 has become quite a solid plant. The next update will come either on the 25th or the 26th. Height of the plants: PBB = 100cm G41 = 140cm Distance to the lamp: PBB = 66cm G41 = 26cm 27.08.: Where should I even start?! During the time I was away, the G41 stretched so much that it's partly grown right up to the lamp or even past it. Since having the lamp too close to the plant is obviously very bad for the quality of the flowers, I had to rein it in and create some space between the lamp and the plant. For that, I installed a 3rd net, which now serves as support for the branches. Since I definitely didn't want to top it again at this point, the only option left was to do some supercropping or bending of the branches. I bent the branches just above the net and then laid them on the net. This obviously covers some lower branches, but I guess I have to accept that. Additionally, I removed quite a few leaves and branches from both plants that were hanging too low to let more light through to the bottom. The PBB hasn't changed much in height since then, but it's already much further along in terms of flower development. You can already see some trichomes on the leaves, and a few first terpenes are starting to appear. I increased the lamp from about 40% to around 70% so that a few photons still reach the PBB. Finally, I gave a little extra to the G41 in the form of hand watering with some Acti-Vera from BioBizz and hydrolyzed kelp, both done by eye. Of course, it doesn't make much sense to specify the height of the G41 anymore.

Sadom 29.08.: Flowering week 4 begins and there’s not much to do at the moment. I’ve secured the shoots of the G41 to the net again because they’ve started stretching towards the lamp. The watering is hardly happening right now since the PBB is drinking very little, and both are being watered for the same amount of time. Therefore, the G41 is also being watered by hand. There are already some pistils visible on the G41 that have turned brown. I hope it hasn’t hermied and self-pollinated. However, I didn’t find any pollen sacs upon closer inspection. It could also be due to the constant airflow. I’ll keep an eye on it. Unfortunately, the thrips are still very strong. I’ll order some new beneficials to keep them in check. 03.09.: The bent shoots have partially stretched towards the lamp again, so I had to secure them with tomato clips to the net. Both plants received a phosphorus boost since they have an increased phosphorus requirement during weeks 3-5 of flowering. This was then watered in with a little Epsom and kelp. Additionally, some flower sites and leaves were removed from the lower part of the G41. The lamp is set to 200W, which will most likely remain until the end.

Sadom 05.09.: The grow is currently running more or less on autopilot. I occasionally water the G41 with plain water and sometimes I add a bit of Epsom or Kelp to the watering can, but most of the time I just water with water. The mulch layer is very active with lots of little critters and worms and stays relatively constant at a good moisture level. The thrips are still happily munching and multiplying, but new beneficials are already on their way. The buds from the PBB don’t look too bad and already have some trichomes and terpenes. The buds of the G41 are not as developed yet, but the first trichomes and terpenes are slowly appearing here too. The air temperature is currently anything but optimal. To get the temps in the optimal range, I would need to get an air conditioner, but that’s definitely not worth it to me and doesn’t make sense in my eyes. In the end, only leaf temps are relevant, as they are crucial for the VPD. The leaf temps are between 26-28C. Since I can’t and don’t want to control the temperature, I adjust the RLF to the temp. 08.09.: The buds are getting bigger and releasing more aroma. So far, both look rather average in terms of resin content. I’ve watered both plants with EMs, Kelp, and Kickoff and spread some dried Bokashi on the pots. This should help boost the soil life a bit. I might brew an ACT soon, we’ll see. Also, I decided to turn the lamp up to about 270W since the temperatures are currently a bit cooler. 12.09.: Other than releasing beneficials and taking photos, nothing has happened. The temperatures are still quite low, which is good for the plants, and I’m letting the soil of the G41 dry out a bit to promote flower production. Currently, my sensor says 57%. The PBB, on the other hand, hardly drinks at all compared to the G41. It’s probably just due to the significantly smaller plant mass.

Sadom 12.09.: Flowering week 6 begins and there's not much to report. I can't really do much actively right now, except for watering and occasionally removing a few leaves here and there. The environmental conditions are currently pretty perfect at 26 degrees leaf temperature and 55% relative humidity. I've noticed that the leaves on the G41 in the upper area, which is quite close to the lamp, are starting to turn yellowish. It could be that the plant is getting too much light there. I'll dim the lamp a bit for now and keep an eye on it. I consider a nutrient deficiency to be rather unlikely, as there should still be enough nutrients in the pots and it only occurs in the area near the lamp. 18.09.: You can see the G41 is really thriving! Compared to flowering day 36, the buds have grown well and swollen. You can clearly see on the flowers that they are currently pushing hard and will add quite a bit of mass. The PBB will definitely not be a yield monster, but the flowers look very nice. For me, it was more about the taste than the yield with her. Both plants received an ACT that I brewed for 32 hours. For this, I used 4L of Kangen 6.0 water, mixed with 15ml of molasses and a good bowl full of fresh worm humus from the worm bin. Additionally, I mixed in a bit of guano (50g), kelp (2g/l), and insect frass (2g/l) to add some more nutrients. The whole thing was then aerated with a compressor and a bubbling stone and then diluted about 50/50 with water. The soil life will love it!

Sadom 23.09.: In the 7th week of flowering, I mostly let the two do their thing. Here and there, a few leaves were taken off, but that's about it. The watering system is currently handling the watering because the G41 is very thirsty. I estimate both will need about 2 to 2.5 more weeks.

Sadom 29.09.: As it slowly comes to an end, both are only getting water to drink. Unfortunately, upon closer inspection of the G41, I noticed that it has developed bananas in the upper area near the lamp. I hope and suspect that no pollen has been released yet, but it will only be a matter of time before I overlook one. It's of course very hard to say what the cause is, but I hope it doesn't get much worse. So far, there are no brown trichomes visible on the buds, so they still need a little more time.

Sadom 07.10.: The harvest is getting closer and closer. Both plants are slowly showing visually and through their drinking behavior that they are in the final stretch. They are drinking very little now and are changing color from purple to yellow to light green. The smell is now so intense that the whole apartment smells when I open the tent. The G41 clearly dominates here. The aromas of the PBB are almost completely overshadowed by the G41. The first brown-colored trichomes are already visible, but by far the majority are milky. So it looks like both will be harvested this weekend.

Looks really good! I think a nutrient deficiency wouldn't be too bad at this point since you'll probably be harvesting in the next 2-3 weeks 🤷🏼 let them eat themselves.

@RasendeRollo92, thank you! :) I think it will be at least 3 more weeks, but you're definitely right. A nutrient deficiency wouldn't be the end of the world. 😌
