Jens_420 I had to put a layer of quartz sand on top because unfortunately, I have a slight infestation of fungus gnat larvae due to a bio pellet fertilizer in the soil, but I will treat it today with some neem oil.

Jens_420 Starts to transition into the flowering phase after the 6th week, I think it's a bit too early since it's still relatively small, but there's nothing to be done about it now.

Jens_420 Just got back from vacation yesterday, I was constantly thinking about my little ones since they were mostly outside, except for a few times when good friends put them under a roof in case it got too stormy. So I arrived home yesterday and realized they’re not so little anymore, they've grown more than double since flowering started. Everything looks great so far, I think, if you notice anything feel free to let me know, here and there a few small pieces are missing from the leaves, but that shouldn't be too concerning, right?

Jens_420 We're in week 9. The buds have definitely grown well. What surprises me is that the plant hardly smells. I have 2 Bluematics, and one of them had a slight smell even in the veg phase, and you can imagine how it smells now. Bluematic 2 smells so incredibly strong, but it's not even close to being as far along as this Bluematic here, at least in terms of the buds. In terms of smell, I can really say that what impressed me is that the second of my Bluematics has a slight berry scent, so when you smell it, you already think of sour, fresh blueberries picked from the forest. Good luck to everyone else reading this ✌️

Jens_420 Now 10 weeks old, time is really flying by. Buds are developing nicely, especially the main bud. I find it very nice that the buds are getting a bit of a purple tint, I really like that, but it's probably due to the low temperatures, around 10°. The terpenes are also developing very nicely, you can really perceive a berry note, which of course comes from the Blueberry. Let's see how it holds up until next week. I was advised to try lollipopping, but I'm a bit unsure about doing that, so feel free to share your opinions with me. So until then, I wish everyone reading this a successful grow.

Jens_420 Your buds have turned quite purple, but that’s probably due to the nighttime temps.

Jens_420 Looking very nice as it's growing. Can't say exactly when it will be ready, the weather here is currently bad and changeable, sometimes I have to leave it in the shade for a whole day. Trichomes are milky, and there are a few scattered amber ones on the sugar leaves.

Jens_420 Hey hey, Just checking in here again. My Blueberry looks pretty good at the moment and is nearing its end. The hairs are almost all brown and the trichomes are slowly turning brown as well. It's starting to pull nutrients from the leaves; you can't really see it well in the pictures, but in reality, the green has become really light.

Jens_420 So, my grow ends here. My first grow ever and also my first Automatic. The strain Royal Bluematic wasn't particularly hard to grow; it just had a few small spots from some pests here and there, but otherwise no complaints. I wouldn't say the plant was extremely hard to grow, but also not extremely easy. Overall, I can't judge that well since it was my first grow. The cultivation was still quite simple. You definitely shouldn't expose it to high humidity, as my second Bluematic had some mold spots, which thankfully this one did not. In the end, I didn't do much except water it, fertilize it, and trim it. I ended up with a dry yield of 37g. I thought it would be significantly less, but I'm very satisfied ☺️ (Estimated the wet weight, didn't weigh it).

@RasendeRollo92, fungus gnats aren't causing any stress anymore, so there definitely aren't any sitting on the leaves. The plants are alive and growing well, so I would just conclude that the larvae aren't causing any stress anymore.

@@Jens_420, very cool! It's also pretty calm for me right now, after I threw away about 8 full yellow leaves from them 🤷🏼🙈 I hope that has settled down for me too 👊👍

Hey Jens, good luck with your grow! It's completely normal that they are usually still smaller at the beginning of flowering; they get a 150-300% stretch in height depending on the genetics (Indica/Sativa). Stay on it, looks good! 😉
Jens_420
Jens_420 commented2y ago
@Sickone, I've heard about that too. Bluematic is very indica dominant, not sure if that's an advantage or disadvantage for growth.

Great idea with the quartz sand! Does it help against fungus gnats? I really have a problem with those pests and was actually planning to get nematodes to go with the yellow sticky traps.

@RasendeRollo92, So my dad is a professional gardener and definitely knows his stuff when it comes to plants, care, etc. Apparently, they don't like to land or walk on sand, so they can't lay any more eggs for now. Generally, killing the larvae in the soil doesn't really help at first. But I believe the larvae also don't like crawling on or through the sand, so it makes it hard for them to hatch and crawl out of the soil. Like I said, I'm giving them a full dose of neem oil today; I can't say yet how much it helps. What can also help is to keep the soil surface dry and water the plants from a saucer. I can't say much yet about whether it helps since I just applied the quartz sand yesterday. But I'll keep reporting here.

I recommend Neem oil. Just mix a solution with water and spray the Neem oil on top of the soil about 2 times a week for around 2-3 weeks, and you'll be good. The great thing is that if you have aphids or powdery mildew, you can also spray it on the plant, just don't use it during flowering because it can change the taste.... Good luck!

@TheGreenThumb, thanks, I bought it a week ago, it definitely works, at least there are no more bugs on the leaves.
