Felt like risking a late season outside grow. Testing out local super soil (Tilth) and a couple of seeds from RQS. If they go too long (99 days until the end of october and I'm on 41.5 N.
I'm terrible at this so far -- but I'm hoping for the best. If this doesn't grow well -- it's all on me (not RQS)
1x Hulkberry 1x orion put in water at 4:30PM 7/8/2024
Hulkberry planted in tilth with 4cups of perlite on 7/11/2024 at 5:30am. Orion almost ready
Noon planted Orion in soil, spray watered
Late night on July 12, hunkberry broke through and exposed coteledens
Am July 13 seed pushed on Orion
We'll call July 12 Day 1
Dealing with very hot days and then some rain
Day 3 July 14 both seedlings put outside in the shade at 4pm as it was 110F on the soil
Days 4-6 Been spraying water in the soil during the hottest parts of the day, but mother nature takes care of the ready with some rain. Pots still heavy on the bottom.
Day 7 Brought them inside overnight (low expected to be 50f) July 19 back out at sunrise
Day 8 July 20 - Day 14 July 26
HUGE disaster hit!!! Day 12 (July 23 ) we had torrential downpour last night and woke to find Hulkberry buried in the soil!?!?
I cleaned if off and propped it upright. It never broke the stem, but it was too weak to hold itself up.
I propped it up and added an inch of soil.
It surprisingly recovered well after a couple of days of sunshine!
Mostly rain for a bit and then sunshine. I haven't had to water at all yet (whenever they might get dry we get some rain).
Starting to stretch up quite a bit! They are loving the rainy days mixed with sunshine
Day 15 July 27 - Day 21 Aug 2
Day 16 July 28 very hot outside, so sprayed the top of the soil (outside of the pot) to alleviate some of the heat
Day 22 Aug 3 - Day 28 Aug 9
Day 23 Aug 4 barely need to water since it keeps raining every couple of days. Tiny pre flowers are starting to show
So far -- outside growing is VERY easy (less work)
