9/10/2024- Pre Germination Activity- I set the system up in a new configuration 3 plants instead of 4 for this run.. Even though I am still only going to do 2 I am going to keep the first pod closest to the Res clear on this run. FUN FACT: Pre-Germination: The Importance of Sterilization "Before I even think about touching the seeds, I make sure all my tools and grow space are sterilized. Cleanliness is key to preventing pathogens like mold or bacteria from messing with my seedlings. A simple wipe-down with isopropyl alcohol on surfaces and equipment helps maintain a clean environment. This small step reduces the chance of contamination and promotes healthier plants down the line." 9/12/2024- Pre germination Activity 2 days until Germination. Today I prepped the water that will be used for the germination phase... The cups to sprout them in, The water will also be used for prepping the root riots that they will be planted in as well as the water will be used to fill the bottle that will be used to spray them while they are in the seed trays. It is Distilled water that has been PH balanced to 5.92 FUN FACT: Seeds Can Sense Gravity "Did you know seeds have a natural sense of gravity called gravitropism? Even in total darkness, the root will grow downwards, and the shoot will aim upwards. This innate sense helps the plant orient itself, so when the seed cracks, it knows exactly how to develop!" 9/14/2024- Germination day 0- into the PH balanced water to Sprout it can be 24-48 hours from here. Fun Fact: Optimal Conditions for Seed Popping "When I dropped my seed into the cup for germination, I made sure the water temperature was around 22-25°C (72-77°F). Seeds germinate best when the environment mimics springtime conditions—warm, but not too hot. I let the seed sit for about 12-24 hours, checking to make sure it sinks, which shows it’s ready to absorb water and begin its journey."
