First time: Auto Northern Lights on a tight budget.
Intro:
I am just newly moved into a new city for my first job. I ain't got anything to do around here so I thought I'd start growing. This is my first real try to grow something.
Initial setup is:
Seed from a local growshop, soil and pots from a local convience store.
As I'm still waiting for my first paycheck, I'm trying to do this without spending that much money.
Nothing much in the first week, just germinated and planted till the first leafs were showing.
At this moment, the pot is just standing on my balcony and gets about 14 hours of sunlight a day.
No nutrients or anything, as I said on a tight budget.
Massive temperature drop this week and bad weather, so i put the pot inside and on my window sill. Because of angles, sunlight hours sunk down to 12 hours a day.
On friday of this week I made a huge mistake:
Ive bought some nutrients and misread the dosage instructions and gave the plant the 50x dosage.
I was away other the weekend and only noticed on monday of the next week.
About that in the report of next week.
Mishap of last week: I almost poisoned my plant by giving it the 50x dosage of nutrients.
My plan to save it back then was to unplant it and switch out the soil.
By doing so I also accidentally ripped of about 7mm of root.
I have now learned from a friend that what I did was not really a good Idea as I could've easily made it worse by doing so.
Luckily it survived. Also, I got some used 40w LED growlights.
New setup is: Pot in my wardrobe: Lights hung on two coathangers.
I know it aint optimal and I've got to upgrade soon because of size and probably constant UV-ish light won't be good for my clothes. Also smell in the future- shouldn't come to work smelling like a skunk I guess.
But at the moment, I think it'll suffice.
I also only gave it a little tad of nutrients this week as I thought I shouldnt provoke any burn.
It is growing nicely after a few days again, so I think the plant has recovered nicely from my mistake.
(Peek the two last pictures, about 24hrs between them)
This week nothing much happened, except for quite nice growth.
I was away over the weekend, and my lights timer isn't really that useful so I put the plant back on my windowsill, especially because it was quite sunny; didn't seem to bother her. I gave it nutrients once, as I'm still a bit careful after my incident in week2/3.
I've got one question though: On the top-pic from the 23rd, the upper leaf has little, lighter stripe along the left side. Is that a bad sign? Nutrientburn maybe? Im still new to this so I'm not sure if that's what it looks like.
Again nothing much this week except for some nice growth. Sun is out again here so I changed my lighting setup: Pot is again on a windowsill to get some proper sunlight and additionally my grow light's overhead to fill in the full 18h of light and to support in case of clouds.
Ive also spoken to the owner of my local growshop, who said that these spots on my plant probably isn't something to worry about and probably just is a genetic mutation that happens now and then.
Quite a bit of growth this week, almost doubling in size and the main stem also gaining some rigidness. Got some nice leafs and the plant seems to be eager to grow.
Also the little leafs from last week are growing bigger.
I am planning to top the plant soon, probably after the fifth or sixth knot of leafs; is that too early?
After last weeks post I did decide to top her, in retrospect that was a bad idea as she showed the first pistils after a few days and not really that much new growth after.
Quite a lot of new leafs formed and the flowering strech is definitely showing as she grew about 3cm per day for the last few days.
I somehow damaged one of the leafs which you can see in the first picture, but she doesnt seem to be bothered by it.
Theres a faint smell already, but you have to get quite close to smell it.
Only came around to do an update now, as I was away for about a week because of work stuff.
She kindof exploded a bit and grew quite a lot, almost doubling in height from my last update.
Getting alot of additionial pistils.
While I was aways my lighting setup wasnt ideal, because the integrated timer only allows 12 hour cycles and I seem to have set it up wrongly as the light shouldve been on when I just came home.
I also did some light lst before I left as she was covering herself a bit. She seems to have responded quite well to it.
Sadly I had to leave again already; I fed and watered the girl and hopefully fixxed the light situation, so that she gets her 18hours of light
Only came around to doing this now:
Growing nicely, getting quite big actually. Got a few flowering spots and Im sure ill see the first few buds soon.
Shes getting quite thirsty and I definitely have to water her more now.
No other complications last week.
Nothing too spectacular this week, still a lot of vertical growth.
Buds are coming in nicely, obviously arent completely there yet.
Ill have to harvest at the start of december as Im away over christmas so Ill have to start drying before then- that may mean that I have to harvest early.
Also about defolation: Should I start defoliating soon?
So Im already doing this weeky report on thursday, as I won't manage to do it on friday like I try to every week.
On monday the first thrichomes started showing, that made me quite happy.
On Wednesday I got some new Toys: Ive got myself a growtent (finally) and a new light.
The new lights got an output of (allegedly) 1200W, which is quite a lot more than my previous 40w light.
She doesnt seem to mind it, as I was worried about lightstress through the sudden change.
I also cut off some of the lower fan leafs and a few small budsites, as they were never going to get enough light.
I still hope that I can harvest early december so I can dry her before I leave for christmas.
Nothing to special this week, more trichomes and the buds are getting bigger.
Smell is still not that strong; I can sit across the room with openend grow tent without smelling anything- even without a coal filter.
Getting quite a bit different this week. I didnt feed/water a lot this week as I was trying to get rid of some fungus gnats- and because of that I developed some defencies and I've also got calmag this week.
Im not really doing anything against it as Im chopping her down in about 4 days; as Im on a strict timeplan for drying. Im also starting to flush her now.
Trichomes aren't completely there yet, but as I said, I got no other choice.
She also started to purple a bit, which is quite nice. Seems to be a genetic thing tho, as my temps are staying quite constant.
I had to harvest early, trichomes weren't quite there yet but as I'm away soon I have to dry them already.
I got 90g of wet weight, that's including stems and stuff.
I'll update when I've dryed and cured the buds.
