I'm excited to grow my first autoflower ever! This was a late night impulse buy so I decided use up some coco coir mix I had sitting in the corner.
I plan on amending the Coco with organic dry fertilizers/amendments and then top dress every after. I havent decided what I'm going to use but I probably pick something that's readily available and cheap lol
Week 1, day 1: The seed has been placed directly into the Coco. Its was lightly watered and I used a sandwich bag to help with humidity. Now we wait..
Day 7: There have been no signs of germination all week. I dug up the seed to find it dark and unopened. A new seed was started in a rockwool cube and hopefully this one sprouts. Out of five strains and maybe 15 seeds, this is the first that failed for me from growers choice.
I guess this is really week 1: attempt #2 😭
The 2nd seed sprouted out from the cube inless than 3 days. Maybe I did something wrong with the Coco for the 1st seed. I'm not sure why I didn't sow the 1st seed in Rockwool like I always do... Oh well lol
The baby has been repotted into its forever home, a 2.5 gallon pot filled with Root Farm Hydro Mix (soilless). I have amended the mix with Jobe's Organic All Purpose (4-4-4) dry fertilizer. 1/4 cup per gallon of medium has been mixed into the medium before being added to the pot. I'll topdress with more every 3 to 5 weeks
I'm literally planting this the way I plant our tomatoes in the spring. It's super easy and cheap. I'm even using the same organic fertilizer I get from the local hardware store. The only difference is I'll be using a soiless mix (that I also found at the hardware store) instead of soil. I hoping to be able to use this method to teach some friends. Hopefully this turns out
Update: she's been moved into the veg tent under some low power cobs. I raises the lights over 24" until the seedlings a bit more established.
Not much to report this week. I've been watering every 2 to 3 days with just a bit of ph'd water. There was almost no visable growth for a few days and I was worried I had overwatered it. Everything seems cool now, I'm just paronoid about stunting an autoflower.
It's now the beginning of week 4. I haven't updated for a few weeks because there is not much to say. I have been watering about every 3rd day with tap water ph'd to 6.5 to 6.7. I have not added any nutrients since I mixed in 1/4 cup of jobes organic per gallon of Coco coir when planting the seed. I'll top dress soon, around or before she is in full flower.
I did notice she has preflowers on her highest nodes when I was training her today. Hopefully she'll be in full flower next week
Early last week I overwatered so growth was a bit slow. I've continued to train her but since she's not growing too aggressively, it's been minimal. Other than that, I've been watering with tap water ph'd to 6.5-6.7. I will be top dressing with the next watering
It's been an exciting week. She's in flower and has started to stretch. I'm not sure how big of a stretch to expect but I've trained the branches out wide and flat to manage height. The new growth also seems to be coming in with very skinny leaves but then looks normal after a day or so.
I am still only watering with water ph'd to 6.5-6.7. I have not added any nutrients since the seed was potted into the amended Coco. I will top dress around day 50 and again durring mid flower.
I top dressed on day 50 with 5-6 tablespoons of jobes organic fertilizers, 1/2 all purpose and 1/2 vegi and tomato. Every 2 to 3 days I watered with tap water ph'd to 6.5ish
Buds have started forming with leaves spiking out from them. There is almost no smell yet but the stem leaves a citrus/pine smell on your fingers.
she has been drink more the last few days and I have moved her a few inches closer to the light.
Check back for more updates 😁
Early this week she was looking a bit frumpy and I notice she wasn't growing with much vigor.
Near the top of the highest colas I noticed the tips of fan leaves were browning. Over the next day the browning tips spread and some yellowing started. Since I had already topdressed last week, I decide to check the runoff. The runoff was pretty low so I double checked the ”hydro mix” I use and found that there is a lot of peat moss mixed with the Coco coir. Maybe the lime in the mix has been exhausted?
I decided to top dress with 3 tablespoons of dolomite lime and watered it in. I used a granular dolomite lime that's supposed to be somewhat fast acting and is supposed to bread down quickly into extremely fine particles. We'll see
As of today she's doing much better and has had noticeable growth since yesterday. I'm not sure if the lime helped sweeten the mix already or if the top dressing has worked in. I'll just keep an eye on here
Check back for more updates 😁
This week has gone by smoothly. The buds have been filling out nicely and trichomes have started to form. The odor is still very week unless you touch the buds, she's piney.
I have been watering every 2-3 days with tap water ph'd to 6.7
Buds have quickly been bulking up and are looking great. The odor now is slightly lighter than normal. Pine, citrus and earthy aromas get released as she is handled/moved
This week I top dressed with a 50/50 mix of jobes all purpose and jobes vegi and tomato. I also added a shallow layer of sunshine mix over the top dressing to help keep the granuals moist until they break down. This should be my last feeding for this grow, h2o only from today til harvest
Resin production has really picked up the last few days and the odor has increased the same. She smells sweet (almost berryish) and piney. Buds are getting fat and , unexpectedly, some purpling has started.
I top dressed last week for the last time. 6.7ish h2o only until harvest.
Happy growing
The buds have really started to swell up the last few days. She is beginning to smell stronger and stronger everyday, its turned from a really piney nose to a more fruity/bubble gum/sweet smell over the last few days. Hopefully she will need 3 more weeks so I can harvest and dry her photoperiod sisters or else i won't have room in my drying tent.
I'm still watering with only 6.7ish ph'd tap water. She was top dressed about 10-14 days ago and won't have any more feedings. water only until harvest
It's been an autopilot kinda week for this one, just watering with ph'd tap water only and watchin. The buds keep swelling and packing on trichomes. The smell isn't super strong but its very pleasant. It's less piney this week and has gained more sweet/Berry notes.
I hoping she finishes up in the next week or two but I'll keep pushing her along as long as needed.
Happy 420 to all and to all a good smoke
I keep being surprised by how much purple is coming through on the fan leaves. She's been an extremely beautiful plant through her flowering cycle. As always, she is only being give tap water ph'd to 6.7ish.
Her scent hasn't really changed much except for the berry/sweet smell has become a bit stronger. I really cant wait to see how she will smell after harvest.
I have noticed some trichomes turning amber on the larger buds but the rest are still a mix of clear and clouded. I was really hoping to be able to harvest before the end of the month but i doesn't look like thats gonna happen. I suppose shell end up with a full 10 or 11 weeks in flower.
It's been almost 5 weeks since her last topdressed (h2o only) and this week she's starting to show it. Her largest fan leaves have started to dry and turn yellow.
It seems the buds have stopped swelling and I'm starting to find some Amber with the scope. I'll be chopping her within the week and do my harvest update once she's dry and curing
I had a slow start with this one but she came around. A delicate handed is needed when watering for the first couple weeks. After that it was in autopilot and she started to purple pretty early into flower. I'm already growing another 😁
@AsNoriu, I'm hoping to get close to 3oz from her. I just harvested a plant of similar size, but a difficult grow, and got 59g of real airy bud. The Gga in much better shape and has way bigger buds than her sister tho.
