January 20: Small defoliation. removed all the leaves affected by the potassium burn. Watered 4L today and fed her CalMag 1ml/l + ph down 6.5 Runoff was on spot again at 6.5 -------------------------------------------- January 22: She was thirsty again today, so she got watered. 4L of water, CalMag 1ml/l, no ph down to 6.5. What? No PH Down to 6.5?? Nope. We're trying a new thing. My topwater measures 7.2-7.5ph. The vermicomposting and living soil SHOULD be adequate to regulate the ph. Let's find out! Runoff was 6.8ph The Potassium issue reoccured on new leaves. A lesser amount of leaves this time, but the issue persists nonetheless. The soil isn't entirely ready yet. And a worm jumped ship! By the looks of it, half dried out, it was climbing the plant and fell from a branch. Why dafukk was it crawling the plant though?? Gonna have to figure this one out before more follow him. Raised the light up 5cm to a distance of 40cm (40% intensity) again. -------------------------------------------- January 25: Removed a few more leaves affected by the nutrient burn. There are less this time so progress is being made! Some of the affected leaves didn't even fade yellow yet and had already developed brown or black spots. This makes me wonder if Potassium is the only problem at hand. To combat the "ROOTS BLOODY ROOTS" situation, she received a top dressing of LightMix and was watered immediately afterwards. Today she received her weekly Microbes and a dose of CalMag. .4g/l Microbes + 1ml/l CalMag (a ph of 7.1 was measured and her runoff was 6.8 again) I know. I know.. I said I wasn't going to actively feed the worms anymore but concentrate on feeding the microorganisms. Well what is half an avocado doing in the soil then? Feeding the worms.. Sorry but avocados were on sale today at the supermarket 😌 It's been five days since the last time I used the ph down. Plant, soil and worms seem unaffected so far. Keeping an eye open. The vermiculture SHOULD be able to handle and regulate itself by now. Though I've been reading that the microorganisms also benefit from and consume BioGrow/BioBloom/TopMax, it can't be risked at the moment until the Potassium issue is solved. -------------------------------------------- See you next update!

Number 4 (Amnesia Haze photoperiod) started smelling of cannabis since her 2nd week of veg. Her 3 sisters before her didn't smell of cannabis, not even in bloom.. Why? What alters the smell of plants from the same genetics, when all other conditions are the same?

This is called phenotypes every strain has several different types of plants, which leads to different optical taste and smell, and then there are some mutations like in lemon haze that don't get good terps and very fluffy buds. Amnezia Haze has a specific smell that is present at the beginning of flowering, it seems to me that you got with the other two a different phenotype. Wait for their development, for sativa It is normal to get the full potential in really late stages of flowering.

Here's what I make of it (and PLEASE correct me where I am wrong!) : The tips yellowing indicates, a nitrogen burn. The burnt brown tip indicates, nitrogen burned to long 😂 The black spots indicate, a P or K issue (as the leaves are otherwise healthy green in color)

Correct on the yellow tips = too much nitrogen. Dark spots looks like excess potassium. A deficiency will also have a yellowing of the leaf that coincides with it. Your best bet is to cut back on any additive of potassium thst you may be using. Also a slight reduction of nitrate for the time being. Make sure when watering you are getting roughly 10-20% water running out of the bottom. This flushes away and build up of salts left behind so you do not deal with excess nutrient build up. I would mix up a lighter batch of nutrients and feed off till you get about 50% run off this next feeding. You will essentially replace anything in the soil with a lower amount of fertilizer by doing this. Hope this helps.

@valiotoro, Nah you didn't miss it. I only briefly mentioned it in this weeks diary. It wasn't until yesterday's update that the issue got documented. So no worries bud. 😁

Looks like light burn for the AZ👀

@valiotoro, you could be right. Though, the problem was found in different layers of the canopy, ranging from the very bottom of the cola to the very top. It's unlikely that the bottom most leaves got light burned as they are nearly 70cm away from the light 😅 If it was a deficiency, it wasn't clear which nutrient was the culprit. No matter. She won't be complaining anymore 😈 During the plant's rest period yesterday, she decided it was time to have 5-10% of the trichomes turn amber. RIP!! 😬😂

Cherry tomato on your soil?🍕 Don’t worry it’s not bananas your are good to go 🤩

@valiotoro, would have given salami but worms are vegetarians 😅 Erm, sorry to break it to ya but there are bananas in there. At least, they were given with the first feeding and later covered with top soil. I suspect most of the banana pieces are gone by now 😂

After a few conversations with a couple of community members, the nutrient problem was narrowed down to being an excess of Potassium (K). The red wrigglers and microorganisms supplied the soil with more than enough K before she was flipped, and she burned because of that. Upon flipping her, I started her on BioBloom (P + K) and that enhanced the problem to its current state. -------------------------------------------------- Objective: 1. reduce the amount of K in the soil, without disturbing the organic life 2. return the plant back to a neutral and healthy state before the bloom is affected too badly 3. let the organic life do it's thing and see if that alone provides the necessary P and K -------------------------------------------------- Solution: 1. read MORE about vermicomposting and vermiculture 😂 2. soil - WIll NOT flush the soil but, remove BioBloom from her next feedings. After seven days it should be clear if there is still enough K in the soil or not. After 14 days, it should be clearer. 3. worms - stop actively feeding the worms fruits/vegetables. The next two weeks, they will get a nutrient neutral diet of shredded cardboard IF they appear hungry. Wish me luck!

Update: Tuesday the 10th of December 2024 Amnesia Haze has been defoliated. All growth on the rear side of the main stems has been removed as well as nearly all of the fan leaves 😁 Her stems flexibility was also tested and only the top 7-8 cm can be bent. I'm going to have to think the next step through. It's okay. She has time still. Amnesia Zkittlez automatic is looking tasty 😋

Update: Monday the 21st of October 2024, 24 hours after the Veg Week 5 post. It's nearly too shameful to admit, but AH got butchered last night by the pruning sheers 😅 Truth being(!!), it started off with a joint of her sister's half-failed yield, directly after the "Veg Week 5"post.... Number 3 has dried to the point where even the thicker stems are snapping without actually breaking. It was time for curing. Not before I had one smoke of her though! Further details to follow in an upcoming update to that diary. What I will say here about it is: that was possibly the biggest mistake of Number 4's life. Possibly the best thing that will ever happen to her. Let's hope she develops into how I envisioned her to turn out. Number 4 only has four stems remaining after her first date with the sheers. All the bigger fan leaves have been removed as well as all the leaves that blocked valuable undergrowth. This is going to set her back a couple weeks 😬 She was beautiful. Now she looks like a couple of pulled apart pigtails and it's all to blame on her sister. Who she never met and never knew existed.. Pictures will follow in next weeks post.
