My grows are mostly experimental, and sometimes the experiments go wrong. This is the case with my first 6 seedlings this week; I did a foliar application with auxins and caused all the seedlings to wrinkle, the appearance has been horrible, I thought I was going to lose all the seedlings, but it seems they are slowly evolving. What I intended was to give a hormonal boost for root development; first, I prepared a mixture of spring water and auxins (100 ppm) and watered them. After a few hours, I had the disastrous idea of applying the mixture foliarly, which was also an illogical idea since the intention was to promote growth in the roots, just the opposite of the leaves. I like to define my growing style as ruthless because sometimes I take risks with new techniques without much caution, but in the end, cannabis plants always prove to be very resilient, and I tend to be overly confident, but the grows continue, and I just hope this hormonal overdose doesn’t affect my dear seedlings for the rest of their lives; I will take care of them! Fifth week of growth and transplant week to the final pot, in this case, this home strain is getting the biggest pot of the season, as it showed the best growth, an old-school 12L pot with great elevation at the base and more holes on the sides to improve substrate aeration. For the 3 plants I transplanted this week, I prepared a very light and mineralized substrate; my intention is to enhance root expansion as much as possible while creating the best conditions for the absorption of soluble bio-nutrients and the proliferation of microbiology. I used as a base a light substrate, homemade bokashi, and coconut fiber (inoculated with MM) in equal parts with a bit of worm humus; perlite, river gravel, and rice husk to improve drainage, vermiculite and zeolite to promote moisture and nutrient retention, and finally a mix of over 12 types of micronized minerals at a rate of 1 gram per liter of substrate (various types of clays, pumice, azomite, basalt, leonardite, diatomite, dolomite, phosphorite, wood ash...), these minerals, for me, are essential, as they fulfill primordial functions in enzymatic and biological processes and also guarantee the complete presence of all the minerals from the periodic table. This mineral richness greatly ensures a complete and complex evolution of the plants, as after all, plants are animated minerals. 24 hours after transplanting, I did a watering with 1.5L of Bio Algae with natural honey and a bit of Ormus. The truth is, I'm worried about the 3 seedlings I transplanted this week; all of them survived an overdose of auxins, but I'm afraid that will influence the entire grow. The three seedlings are struggling to establish themselves and even show some strange symptoms on the leaves. Yesterday, in a hurry, I topped it to slow down the vertical growth and encourage branching. On sunny autumn days, I take the plants out for a few hours to expose them to the fantastic solar spectrum, and the plants appreciate it. I continue with all the plants using vegan brews made from algae and fruits, in an attempt to boost root expansion. The plant has been on a new light schedule for 4 days now, 12/12H, it's very big and I decided to start flowering. This week it has grown 20 cm and looks shiny, with an impressive leaf mass to capture all the light I give it, it's the undisputed Queen of my joy garden! This plant has responded to all the waterings and nutrients without the slightest disturbance, on the contrary, it shows growth with each watering, now I water every two days and instead of increasing the amount of watering, this season even if I have to water more, I’m going to cultivate making sure the substrate stays very aerated. Now since it’s the only plant in the flowering stage, what I do is take the plant out of the grow tent and leave it in a dark room for 12H. The height of this plant will determine the height of the lights for the entire grow tent, and since I have plants that are half its height and in order to not have them too far from the lights, what I've done is put pedestals in most of the other pots. What I always aim for with the high light intensity is to get very compact and branched plants with a maximum height of 70cm to take advantage of the entire light scheme I have planned for flowering. Twelve days since the switch to flowering schedule 12/12H, pre-flowering has begun, and this week it has stretched a reasonable 12cm. The plant has mainly stretched its multiple branches while forming a pretty balanced and numerous canopy of buds. I don't think it will grow much more, and I can't wait to see the long branches fill up with thick buds. Water consumption is still very high, watering every 2-3 days, and I'm letting most of the moisture I've allocated to that pot run out. This season, one of the things I'm focusing on is oxygenating the substrate, reducing the maximum moisture in the pot, and consequently, I'm doing more frequent waterings with my bio fertilizers, all to maintain continuous and complete feeding, with lower nutrient concentrations than I used in other seasons. Since this is the most advanced crop, I'm using it as a test to try out nutrient mixes and other strategies. A couple of days ago, I did the last foliar application for this plant, this time with an energy mix with a variety of minerals. Thirteen weeks since the seed hit the substrate, a week ago pre-flowering started, the plant is still stretching while it begins to form flowers, I hope this is the last week of stretching. The plant is huge, taking up the space of two in the grow tent, many long branches promise to fill up with flowers and give me huge buds from this great African sativa. This week there has been a significant drop in temperatures, water consumption in all the plants has decreased, but on the flip side, I can fill the tent with lights without the risk of overheating. For now, I’m keeping the blue light spectrums to slow down the stretching of the entire garden during the transition to flowering, although this plant is already asking for warmer lights, I have to wait for flowering and for the stretching of the other plants to stop, since I switched them to a 12/12H schedule four days ago and they are not in sync with this one that I switched to flowering two weeks ago. Fourteen weeks since the seed hit the substrate, the plant has made its final stretch after the schedule change, and now it is fully focused on flower formation! 🌼🌼🌼🌼 The Queen of my garden is stoically enduring some lights that no longer suit her, all to give the other crops time to transition to flowering, controlling vertical stretch with blue lights, and speaking of colors, several leaves have started to turn purple due to the low nighttime temperatures, so clearly, I’m going to have a colorful crop from this great variety. But this week, come what may, I'm going to make the big switch in color spectrum, replacing the four blue spectrum (450nm) lamps that emulate early spring light with warm lights, reds, and oranges that will remind me of summer sun... let’s play! That said, this Queen Mother’s diet is already in the flowering stage, with more variety of micronutrients and minerals, with PK as the star macronutrients. Fifteen weeks since the seed hit the substrate, this week it has stretched a bit more, the Queen is not settling and firmly dominates the garden! 👸 The temperatures this time of year are coloring the leaves with a dark purple hue, I hope for buds of that color like last year. Meanwhile, the plant, which seems insatiable in its intake of Bio Nutrients, has started to cannibalize the larger and more hidden leaves from the light, a generous act from the leaves that yield their nutrients to the plant, and a survival tactic from the plant itself that opens up light gaps in its foliage mass for the benefit of flower formation. A characteristic self-defoliation to which I contribute by pushing down some leaves that fall under their own weight. Then, I take that mass of exhausted leaves, chop them up with scissors, and add them to the mulch, in an exercise of self-sufficiency where I mimic the cycle of life in the forest, and where organic matter will reach its highest exponent: humus. But in the meantime, there will be a transfer of nutrients and minerals and a big feast for the substrate's microbiology, which will have plenty of food and an unbeatable habitat. I want to remind you that from my crops I only discard the trunk and especially thick branches; everything else, roots, branches, leaves, I return to the substrate by adding them to the mulch. I rescue this mulch after each growing season, and I've been doing this for 4 years now. Additionally, over time I've also added other materials: straw, wood chips, fresh grass, etc., and all these materials have been efficiently digested by the native microbiology that I constantly inoculate through my various Bio Fertilizer formulations. This material, largely humified or in the process of decomposition, also brings with it a huge concentration of Mountain Microbiology, perfectly adapted and acclimatized to my joy garden, a loyal and microscopic team that protects me season after season from any type of pathogens. That said, I don't add materials from outside, as I had very bad experiences at the beginning. This week I completed the light change, I replaced the 4 blue spectrum (450nm) lamps with another four that have warmer spectrums and added red: 1800/2700/3000 + 660nm. Additionally, I turned on two 60cm LED bars that I have placed vertically in two corners; they have 2100K, 660nm, and IR LEDs. At the same time, to illuminate the third corner of the grow tent, I added three cheap LED bars that total 33w and have a bunch of red LEDs, and in the fourth corner, a panel with 3000K + 660nm LEDs. Lots of light and ventilation to bring out the best flowers... let’s play! And to wrap up the week, I've started to remove all the ties; the branches are now hard and tamed, the morphology of each plant defined, and now they will run free towards the zenith of their glory! 😅 Happy 2025! Seventh week of flowering, I've grown this home strain on two other occasions, and in both, the flowering lasted 11 weeks, so there's still plenty of time ahead. For now, I'm going to have to put stakes on the tallest branches, as the weight of the buds is starting to bend them... let the games begin! 😈 Water and nutrient consumption is high and stable, nothing affects it... it's the Queen of the garden! 👑 I feed my plants exclusively with soluble Bio Fertilizers that I make at home, I don't use any commercial fertilizers, just raw materials and powdered minerals. I have over 40 formulations of soluble Bio Ferments with mountain microorganisms and various types of hydrolysates, all compatible with each other, allowing me to create gourmet watering mixes so that my crops lack nothing... Ten weeks of flowering 🌼🌼🌼, the Queen doesn’t want to leave her kingdom and continues to grow her huge and stinky dark tails, at least she has earned another week of life... it's going to be hard for me to say goodbye to the Purple Queen. The plant continues with a very active metabolism, consuming a lot of watering water and nutrients. I feed all my plants until the last day of their life; my organic crops don’t need flushes or pure water diets, they just need a little love, varied food, and warmth. In winter crops, I raise the temperature of the watering mixes to around 20°C, since the spring water I store at home for the mixes is at a temperature between 15-16°C, and this way the substrate and the plant really appreciate it! This morning, after spending the last night in the grow tent, I took the plant outside to enjoy the cold February light, a few more hours of light and freedom before surrendering to the executioner. At sunset, fate was fulfilled, and I beheaded the Queen, because it's the most decent way to kill a Queen... Long live the Queen! 😁 Now the forbidden fruits hang in front of the extractor of the grow tent, warm, dry, and constant air to lose moisture as quickly as possible. After 3 days, I will move the buds to a drying room for another 4-5 days to continue drying in a natural way.
