Four weeks since germination, the seedling has strengthened tremendously, the stem has thickened, and the seedling is growing very compactly. Yesterday, I transplanted it into its final pot, an old-school 11-liter pot with side aeration and an elevated bottom. The last 5 players/seedlings have entered the playing field, all the seedlings are in their pots. Before that, I thoroughly cleaned the grow tent, oiled the fans, and polished the lights. For now, I'm lighting the garden with 7 lamps: - On the sides: 3xCOB (450nm), 1x LED panel (7700K) = 190w - On the canopy: 3 lamps, one in the center at maximum power (150w) because the power regulator isn't working, on either side of it, illuminating at 50%, two lamps with good color spectrum and brightness. 250w. Nerdy stuff, before making the substrate: When transplanting, I'm going to bury the stem about 2-4 centimeters deep to encourage rooting. I carefully scraped the bark of the stem in that area and wrapped it in cotton soaked in water with natural honey, organic seaweed fertilizer, and homemade auxins. I liked the look so much that I ended up burying the stem and leaving the cotton around it... all for the cause! The soil! Sacred soil! This afternoon, I've been preparing the substrate for the last five seedlings of the season. It's a tough task, as I have to use many components to achieve a very light and aerated substrate, but at the same time contain organic matter, microbiology, and varied minerals (3M). My intention is always to maximize root expansion while creating the best conditions for the absorption of soluble bio-nutrients and the proliferation of microbiology. - The substrate: I used as a base a light substrate, homemade bokashi, and coconut fiber (inoculated with MM) in equal parts, with a bit of worm humus; perlite, river gravel, and rice husk to improve drainage, vermiculite and zeolite to promote moisture and nutrient retention, and finally a mix of over 15 types of micronized minerals at a rate of 1 gram per liter of substrate (various types of clays, pumice, azomite, basalt, leonardite, diatomite, dolomite, phosphorite, wood ash, borax, etc.). These minerals, for me, are essential as they play crucial roles in various enzymatic and biological processes. Water consumption is moderate, in line with the time of year, it's cooled down quite a bit and I keep my grow tent between 22-25°C, which is perfect for me, I love winter grows and hope some of the plants this season show colors. This week I've had a small humidifier, to at least maintain a stable and reasonable humidity around 55%. This week I've also done a deep watering with molasses to give it energy and my Bio fruit ferment with Microorganisms to give it a vitamin boost while also contributing to the consumption of nutrients retained in the substrate. One of the plants in the grow started to collapse, and others showed signs of over-fertilization and slow growth in general. I thought this wasn't possible due to the light feeding regimen I've been giving my plants. The thing is, I decided to urgently flush the plant that was collapsing. For this, I prepared a mix of mountain spring water with the pH adjusted to 6.1 and EC at 0.4. Then I measured the EC and pH of the runoff, and I almost fell over; I'm embarrassed to say it, the EC meter hit the maximum and shut off. When I switched the measurement to PPM, I measured 12,000 🤦‍♂️. Next, I measured the pH, and it also gave me a totally unexpected reading: 7.85 😳. Without wasting time, I decided to flush all 8 plants in the garden, with an even lower pH: 5.5. In the end, I used 1.5 liters per plant (12 liters total), since some still retained moisture from the last watering. I collected the runoff from all the plants, lifted the bases to comfortably remove the water, and finally got 4 liters of runoff that gave me an EC of 7.5! and a pH of 7.8... incredible! Well, to not go on too long, just two days after this operation, the plants have responded in unison with evident growth.
