GoodWeedBerlin Gary Payton on the left and Tangerine Sorbet on the right on their way. Since I like to have some seedlings in the kitchen and want to make use of the extra light, 2 seedling boxes with arugula and radish ended up in the box. Until the humidifier arrives, they also help a little against the somewhat dry air.

GoodWeedBerlin As this run is intended as a test run, I decided to test a new fertilizer line alongside the two new strains. I've had good experiences with Biocanna for decades, but the concept (and the test pack) of Atami VGN piqued my curiosity. So, the ladies will be getting vegan Atami food in this run.

GoodWeedBerlin As the fan that I will later put in the tent would be too strong at the moment, I packed a controllable USB PC fan with a trimmed plastic flower pot (for better airflow direction) into the corner. The ladies look healthy.

GoodWeedBerlin Both plants have 1 leaf with windburn. Nothing that makes me worry, but I solved the problem. Anyone knows if Biobizz puts predatory mites in their lightmix? This is the second run where I have them in the soil. Before, it was mostly fungus gnats. I can live much better with the predatory mites (though there’s a possibility that I transported the predatory mites from the last grow with the clay pellets I use as drainage). For Christmas, I got a humidifier. It's more for human comfort and only adjustable in 2 levels, but on the low setting, one water fill lasts for the 18-hour light period and keeps the humidity in the tent at around +/- 60%.

GoodWeedBerlin Beginning of the 4th week, the ladies got some LST (main stem tied down). It seems like the two have grown enough to fill the tent during flowering, so from week 5 on, they'll only get 12 hours of light. So far, I've adjusted the lamp gradually up to about 66%, and when switching to 12/12, they'll get the full 100% (75 watts). The Gary Payton responded great to the LST. For the Tangerine Sorbet (or at least this pheno), I wouldn't necessarily recommend LST. The node spacing is so short that it will be difficult to create an even height for the flower canopy.

GoodWeedBerlin Switched to 12/12. I put the Tangerine Sorbet on top of a tin can to balance out the height difference of about 15 cm with the Gary Payton. The humidifier is out of the tent, the big Caluma fan is now in the lower corner blowing (on level 1) upwards, and a PC fan blows horizontally between the light and the plant tops. I'm very satisfied with the Atami VGN nutrients; following the medium feeding schedule, there have been no signs of deficiency or over-fertilization so far. It feels like the Tangerine Sorbet could manage with less, but I'm not going to change things up for her, and it doesn't look like it's harming her. I've kept the main stems a bit lower, and a few side branches have also received LST. Plus some defoliation, which I usually keep relatively subtle.

SCROG-Netz installiert. EN: The ladys show their first flowers. The Gary Payton has some male flowers (it feels controllable). I guess I have to deal with this when there are suddenly seeds of a clone-only strain... But fell inlove with every other aspect of the Gary Payton. Beautiful plant so far. Installed the SCROG-net.

GoodWeedBerlin All good with the ladies. The Tangerine Sorbet stayed true to its compact stature even in pre-flowering. While the Gary Payton spread out nicely, the Tangerine Sorbet is a bit too compact for a perfect SCROG. But the net is in, and it works for both. After 3 weeks of flowering, both have also received their lollipopping.

GoodWeedBerlin The Gary Payton started off like a fire (almost from day one of hair production, the first trichomes appeared), but now the Tangerine Sorbet is slowly catching up. I had to carefully pluck a few male flowers, all looked like they hadn't been pollinated yet. No more are growing.

GoodWeedBerlin The buds are stacking up nicely, the Gary Payton is probably heading into the ripening phase soon. The Tangerine Sorbet will likely take about 2 weeks longer and is producing nicely. I removed a few leaves from both. The smell is getting stronger; the GP has a classic Indica/Kush cloud, while the TS currently smells more like a cheesy Skunk. It's clear that a lot will happen with the terps before they're truly ripe.

GoodWeedBerlin The Gary Payton is getting the Atami VGN mix for the ripening phase from now on, while the Tangerine Sorbet is still getting the flower mix. The aroma of the GP is developing a floral note, and combined with the classic indica-diesel-lemon scent, something individually fruity is slowly forming. The TS is continuing to stack up nicely. It's been a while since I grew a classic skunk, but if I remember correctly, the flowering behavior was quite similar. The cheesy aroma from 1-2 weeks ago is transforming into something sweeter.

GoodWeedBerlin As I have to harvest at the end of the month (should actually work out), both girls are now getting the Atami VGN mix for the ripening phase. The Gary Payton looked like she was ready to finish, but now she's pushing out some new green flower tops on the purple beauty. The Tangerine Sorbet is also starting to look like candy. The smell of both is getting much sweeter than it was a few weeks ago. It seems like the Thin Mint Cookies genes are coming through for both. From classic indica and classic skunk, two great, individual scents have developed.

GoodWeedBerlin The run is slowly coming to an end, the ladies will only get water from now on. Lots of brown hairs, the last fan leaves are turning yellow. The trichome assessment with the microscope is proving to be more difficult than usual. On one hand, the purple trichomes look very similar to the amber ones, and on the other hand, both (especially the Gary Payton) started producing a relatively high number of trichomes early on. They have been ripe for many days, while in other areas there are still spots with over 60% clear trichome heads. The Gary Payton has developed a clear minty note in its scent. The Tangerine Sorbet smell is moving further towards sweetness, but the skunk note is still mixing in strongly. So far, this test run has really been worth it. Both genetics are showing success (even though I would train the Tangerine Sorbet differently next time) and the Atami VGN nutrient line is delivering as well.

GoodWeedBerlin Both are close to the finish line. The Gary Payton developed one more single male flower; I hope that doesn't matter at this point in the grow. I'm going to harvest in the next 4 days. That's probably a bit late for the Gary Payton and a bit early for the Tangerine Sorbet, but I'm talking about days and not weeks. I'm going to be away next week, and I want to use the cooler and a little more humid space (without heating) to dry without the risk of overdrying when I return.

GoodWeedBerlin The Gary Payton had to be harvested a few days earlier than I planned. She was ready, and with the additional space, the Tangerine Sorbet can get light on places that were a bit hidden in the overgrown tent for 2-3 more days. I won't give numbers on the harvest weights, but I can tell that she felt really heavy for her size. Harvest updates will follow.

DE: The flowers look like a delicious dessert. During the grow, I couldn't make much of the name; Sweet Skunk or something like that would have suited me better. But when the Gary Payton was no longer in the tent, the Tangerine Sorbet was able to assert itself properly for the first time. And indeed, the smell reminds me of a (yet to be invented) citrus fruit. But of course not without a proper breeze of Mama Skunk. No issues with fertilizer or pests. Beautiful coloring, nice dense flowers, good production. The deduction point is for the short internode distances on this pheno. With those, proper training is difficult. Updates to follow. Update: After the Tangerine Sorbet is completely ripe, the skunk flavor/smell has receded further into the background. The effect is strong, but leaves the physical energy as it is. Especially the legs do not get tired, which makes it a nice hiking companion or something similar.

GoodWeedBerlin It was a pleasure to grow these two Thin Mint kids. I have to try them before I decide if I’ll grow them again. But if I just focus on the grow, both cultivars have a good chance for a repeat. I really like the Atami VGN Nutrients; they will become my indoor goto-fertilizer. For complete newbies, it might not be the best choice; there should be a knowledge base about the growing phases and nutrients. Atami VGN works faster than usual organic fertilizers; the next day you can see how the plants respond to their feed. Since I had a small CalMag deficiency at one point with all 3 plants that I started with Atami VGN, I would only give it 9 stars. As there is no tip from Atami on whether I could raise the CalMag dose, I fixed it with my Greenbuzz CalMag. After that, I didn’t have any more problems.

EN: After 10 days of curing, a little smoke report: Gary Payton: The kushy indica flavor has taken a backseat. Sweet dessert terps are coming through a bit stronger than they usually would in the classic Gary Payton. Maybe a GSC backcross or something, but super tasty and more suited for a not-too-early evening. Bag appeal 10, smell and taste 10, effect 10 (the Tangerine Sorbet keeps me energized, then it fits when Gary Payton knocks me out). So far, I've found one seed, so the hermaphroditism hasn't caused too much damage. The first strain I will grow again, even though I have to expect some hermaphroditism. Tangerine Sorbet: With each day of curing, the dominant skunk smell and taste are fading away. Instead, more fruit is coming to the forefront. In the aftertaste, it feels like having a splash of citrus in the throat. Since it’s genetically more sativa-leaning in effect and was harvested in the early part of the harvest window, the effect is more energizing. Nutrients: I'm really impressed with the Atami VGN line. The yield was top-notch, terpenes pronounced, smell and taste where they should be, and the smoke is mild. Setup: This is how I will continue for my next photoperiod grows. Autos don't make sense for me indoors in this setup anymore. I had about 1.5 g/Watt, and that was with two-thirds of the time only 12/12 and not 18/6 (like with an auto) hours of light. My most energy-efficient grow indoors. Even if common opinion might say otherwise, I’m sticking with 2 pieces of 8-liter pots for a 40x40 cm area. For growth, that might seem excessive, but I believe I’m observing that the buds are simply becoming more voluminous than with smaller pots. Plus, this way you always have a bit more buffer for over/under-watering/fertilizing.
the end.
