For this grow I started off in a Solo Cup. I wasn't paying attention to the details and accidentally overwatered her. I thought she was going to die. I potted her up to a slightly bigger pot with dry dirt and that did the trick. She made a FANTASTIC recovery. I topped her at the 4th node and waited for the 2 new nodes to generate. Once they were good to go I defoliated all of the lower growth except for the two fan leaves immediately below the topped node. I left those to still have some leaves and let the two new nodes grow a bit. At this point I had a pretty long main stem and I roughed it up a bit before potting her up to the 30 gallon tote. I submerged her in the soil so that the new main nodes are roughly 1.5 inches above the soil.
That's where I'm starting this diary and what the pictures in this week represent.
The watering system I'm using is a reservoir. The main tote is raised and put inside the reservoir tote. The main tote has a "wicking" mechanism that dips down into the reservoir tote. All I have to do to feed her at this point is mix my nutes and pour them into the reservoir tote. Pretty hands off. This week I used GH's schedule for week 2. I used a 5 gallon bucket that was filled almost to the top and used enough nutes for 2 gallons of water (according to the schedule). This put the PPM right at about 600 and I ph'd the water to somewhere around 6.3.
Nothing much to add except this begins week 2 in the 30 gallon container. There is still water in the reservoir (I can hear the bubbles from the air stone).
Growth of the current node seems to be pretty fast. The big leaves in last week's pics were fan leaves that I removed last week. So these new fan leaves are... well... new. That shows the progression. It just seems like the new nodes aren't coming in that fast. I wonder if that's because right now the roots are going down to hunt for that water.
The right node is growing slower than the left. So I lowered the left node a bit to try and slow it down and see if the right node can catch up. I also have some support on the main stem to keep it straight until it gets stronger.
I watered again on Friday. Prepped a 5 gallon bucket with GH's products in accordance with their week 3 vegetation schedule. I treated the bucket as if it were only 2 gallons though and that put me around 650ppm. I ph'd the water to 6.1 before pouring it into the reservoir. Watering seems to be really easy with this method so far.
I've been playing around with different light heights. Since I'm taking my time vegging this gal I'm just using 2 100W LED bulbs in a shop lamp style fixture.
I haven't watered since last time. There is still water in the reservoir. I'm considering just watering with CalMag and PH'd water this coming round. What do you think? I've only been reservoir watering up to this point (but I did spray around the stalk a little a few days ago). I'll probably do some top down watering this week too in case the reservoir water isn't reaching the upper roots.
The right-side node is still higher than left to help promote more growth over there.
This thing is going awfully slow. I have a new light on the way that's better quality. I'm thinking these little LEDs aren't enough - even though the plant is small. Even if it's slow I'm ok with that. I have other grows going on so this one is more of an experiment.
There is still water in the reservoir. I did a "little" top feeding this week though because the top soil was drying out. I also put clay pebbles on top so that all the water doesn't evaporate.
So once my new light gets here this girl is gonna go in a small 3x3 tent with the new LED to veg. I hope it helps! If anyone has any recommendations I'm all ears!
I've stopped trimming for a bit. Trying to let her get ahead a bit then I'll start trimming/training again.
*** It seems slow but when I compare the images to last week it seems like she's making progress ***
