heis0070 I received two three packs of fast finishing photoperiod fem seeds from Twenty20 Mendocino in their Free the Seeds 2025 promo: Early Frost and Summer Lemons. Decided I would try an outdoor grow this summer, but due to my location in the north, I was going to only run autos to avoid an early fall wrecking the crop. After getting these seeds and learning about how they flower in September outdoors, I wanted to give these a shot. I sowed one of each cultivar. The Summer Lemons came up after a few days and I transplanted her into soil in a solo cup today. The Early Frost was taking a long time to emerge so I sowed a second seed. Today after I did that, the first seedling emerged :D. She came up through the peat plug instead of back up the hole that the seed went down, which I would guess made it take longer. Assuming the second seed germinates also, I will either keep them both and plant three or give one away.

heis0070 I’ve had the fast photos in solo cups for the last few weeks, and have been hardening them off outside a few hours a day for the last few days. Today the summer lemons, which has always been pretty thin and stretchy, almost snapped at the soil line while getting tossed around by the wind, so I decided to put the beautiful forecast to my advantage and transplant them to their final home. They’re in the same miracle grow soil and planter from Costco. It seems decent enough and isn’t full on nutrients I don’t want so that’s good enough for me. Added a heavy dose of extended veg grow dots and watered with pHed water and recharge to give them a good start. To help stabilize them, I buried both plants pretty deep, past the cotyledons for the SL since she was so skinny. Now it’s time to let nature take its course.

heis0070 Ended up losing the summer lemons and having to sow and grow out the third and final seed. She grew quickly and was transplanted outside in the original space that still was fertilized with grow dots. The Early Frost is growing like a champ and is much larger (mostly due to being much older). I’m excited to see how big she gets in this relatively small planter.

heis0070 Early Frost has gotten huge, 48”+ in height and taking up easily 2/3-3/4 of the horizontal space in the planter. Summer Lemons is tall enough at around 44” peak, but is much skinnier and the fan leaves look less happy than EF. EF has started to flower, which is good because I was nervous about her doubling in height again during the stretch. I hope she’s already done some of her stretch, otherwise things could get out of hand size wise. No idea what week of flower this would be considered since plants are outside. Not really relevant with these fast photo cultivars I suppose. SL does not appear to be flowering yet, but I would expect that to change imminently. Not really doing anything for these two besides giving them water if necessary, but it’s been raining often enough here that I’ve only had to water a handful of times total, and when I do I’ve been able to use saved rainwater so I have no idea what ph etc I’ve been giving them. When I have leftover recharge water from my indoor grow, I’ll give it to these two so they’re getting recharge still from time to time.

heis0070 Early Frost well into flower now. She’s starting to stack up the buds all along her many branches. Better pics to come. Summer Lemons is definitely less developed than her planter mate. She also started flowering a week to a week and a half after EF. Buds are just starting to emerge. Both plants are growing happy and healthy. I’m really happy with the genetics of these two, and am looking forward to seeing how the flowers turn out.
