Northern_Ent 2025 Season Durban Poison Seed ‘priming’ with ethylene gas in dark. https://scitechdaily.com/accidental-discovery-how-a-whiff-of-an-unusual-chemical-transforms-seedlings-into-super-plants/ I tried this last year with tomatoes, peppers and cannabis. 😎 This is almost as big a tip for cannabis growers as “get a pH meter”. Looking forward to another outdoor season. I’ve wanted to grow Durban Poison ever since I first heard about it decades ago. Tough decisions every year as to what to grow for my domestic four, but I’ve always wanted to try this one. Apologies to other breeders and I’ll keep doing four different breeders each year, so maybe next year. Good luck to everyone, and go have some fun growing dope.

Northern_Ent April 26 Day 1: the Durban is a bit slower than the others to sprout, and im not sure this one will actually work. Few more days to decide. Using soil blocking tool to start seeds this year mostly to avoid use of plastic. Worked great for tomatoes and okay for peppers but the soil is wetter than normal and the cannabis doesn’t seem to like it. If not, I’ll start another DP in a few days. April 30: first seed didn’t sprout properly cuz the soil was too wet. Started another one. May 7: replacement seed has germinated and is now above soil level. will keep indoors for another week or so. May 10: planted seedling 2 out as the weather is decent. Gambling again but I put it in the garage overnight so it shouldn’t be too cold. Watering with warmed water in the morning seems to help a lot. May 11: no purple stems this mowhich would indicate cold stress, so thats good.

Northern_Ent May 10: new seed started fine and i’ve transplanted it outside already. Fingers crossed but this one will work. May 14: Fuck. Taking the plant from the garage this morning and the stem is gone. Must have been an ant or some other kind of insect. It might have been a bird yesterday but I thought it was fine last night going in the garage so I think it was an ant. So much for my last Durban Poison seed. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Well, so much for Durban Poison this year. Maybe it was bad luck referring to it as the “mythical” in the diary title. Fuck, oh well, c’est la vie. At least.it is still early in the year with enough time to start something else for my fourth plant. Well, see you in another diary.

That's very sad to hear. But you definitely should try it again. See my result from ladt year. I am waiting for the preflowering time to select the best male and females from my seeds. They are smaller than my other plants but more robust.

@Northern_Ent, how does the ethylene gas get through the water to the seeds? Mostly my seeds germinate in a ceramic pot and 20-25° in between 24 hours.

@birdmountain, thanks and you’re welcome. I’d suggest trying the seed priming trick. It seemed to work last year. Good luck.
