Germination

paetel Originally started this grow only with Mephisto seeds, which I dircetly planted into the growing pots (3 gal./12 L) on May 3rd. I also added a small cup of potting soil and mixed it with natural mycorrhiza according to the book "DIY Autoflowering Cannabis" by Jeff Lowenfels. Double Grape germinated after 5 days, Sour Stomper and Orange Diesel after 6 days. The freebie seed 4 Assed Monkey x Toof Decay needed some assistance after 7 days. While reading several growreports with a similar setup I stumbled across a comment about regular feminized seeds which caught my interest and decided to germinate 2 additional Power Plant seeds (paper towel method), which are 7+ years old and were stored in my refrigerator all the time. Germination is still in process. Some additional context: I only grew cannabis (Skunk #1) once before in an indoor setting while it still was illegal in germany and wrote a report on the hanfburg forum. Since 2017 I grow mostly vegetables in a small allotment which is unfortunatley not suited to grow cannabis according to the current german legislation. 😕

paetel I keep them inside at night because temperatures dropped down to ~4° C. During the day they currently get around 4-5 hours of direct sunlight. I still use the UV protection hat because the sun is quite aggressive this year and I want them to slowly adapt to the UV rays. Double Grape got a bit leggy and I added some additional soil to support her. Unfortunately on May 13th I found her bent over under the protective hat, but luckily the stem is still intact and I added even more additional soil for support. On May 12th I started to germinate the 2 additional Power Plant seeds.

paetel Today, May 15th, marks the beginning of Week 2 for the Mephistos. Double Grape is already developing their second pair of leafs. Sour Stomper and Orange Diesel are lagging a bit behind, but nothing to worry about, I guess. The freebie is still struggling to get their head up, but I won't give up on her yet. 😉 To my surprise both Power Plant seeds germinated and I'll transfer them to small pots today.

paetel With the beginning of week 3 there is not much to report. I gave them around 1 liter filtered water each on friday last week. Weather has been quite cold and windy, but nothing too serious. The freebie 4 AMxTD managed to grow a bit despite the not so pretty conditions. I am optimistic that she'll contiune to catch up a bit. The Power Plant seeds are about to sprout soon (seed leaves peaking through the soil already). I guess I will start a seperate report to document the progress.

paetel Plants are developing and looking nicely. Only gave them water as required. The freebie suffers some serious stunted growth as you can see in comparison and unfortunately both of my Power Plant seedlings died on me. Bonus picture is a lulo seedling (Solanum quitoense) whicht took me 7 weeks to sprout.

paetel Week 5 starts on a happy note as the freebie has finally decided to live and grow. Although not much yield is expected, I will let her finish for the sake of science. 😉 I wish I could get a little more sun, but it is what it is. I forgot to mention that there is a 11 story building across the street, so I lose a few hours of early evening sun due to shading.

paetel Past week has been pretty bad weatherwise, so not much vegetative grow has happened. Fortunately that has changed and I am looking forward to a maximum of direct sunlight in the upcoming days for my now preflowering plants. I started to feed them because I think they show signs of a light Nitrogen deficiency (50% of recommended dosage). I also started to take measurings since my pH pen arrived last week and I am now adjusting the water accordingly with citric acid.

paetel Today marks summer solstice and the plants are doing fine. They continued to gain a few centimeters each and Double Grape ist now clearly flowering. On June 2nd another freebie seed, called Mephistos Weeding x Grape Walker Kush, popped and is now 20 days old. I am not sure if this plant is just a genetic outlier or the general conditions were much more favorable for vegetative growth than at the start of May because she is already quite tall and big. The other freebie keeps on struggling and I should have get rid of her, but still my curiousness is too big...
