ElNass š± Hey growers!
Iām excited to introduce you to my brand new cultivation project. Season 1 begins now!
For this run, I wanted to completely change my approach and go for something more natural and sustainable.
I said goodbye to bottled nutrients and embraced a system based on using only water throughout the entire cycle, with the occasional top dress when needed.
I chose to work with living soil, and I didnāt stop there. I aimed to build a real living ecosystem. I enriched the medium with earthworms, beneficial bacteria, and mycorrhizal fungi, creating a dynamic and symbiotic environment to support plant health from the ground up š¾

ElNass šæ Vegetative Week 1 (officially Week 4)
The first three weeks were a bit of a stall ā the seedling struggled due to heavy competition from the cover crop.
Thatās why Iāve decided not to post those early stages and instead start counting from Week 4, when things finally took a turn.
To help her bounce back, I completely removed the cover crop and gave her a gentle top dress to stimulate growth:
šø Malted Barley ā 18g
šø Neem Cake ā 8g
šø Kelp Meal ā 8g
From here, the real journey begins š±šŖ
Letās see what she can do with a bit of space and the right boost.

ElNass šæ Vegetative Week 3
This week I did some topping to reduce apical dominance and encourage a bushier growth. āļø
Surprisingly, the plant recovered almost instantly ā no visible stress at all! šŖš±
I also applied a light top dress to support vegetative growth:
šø Malted Barley ā 25g
šø Neem Cake ā 8g
šø Kelp Meal ā 15g
However, something didnāt go quite as plannedā¦
By the following week, the plant started showing signs of nitrogen excess ā likely triggered by the combination of amendments.
Lesson learned: next time Iāll dial it back a bit. Still, sheās pushing through and showing resilience š

This week, the effects of the nitrogen excess really started to show.
The plant began displaying visible imbalances, likely caused by the top dress from the previous week. šā ļø
Some leaf tips curled slightly, and the overall growth pattern looked a bit off ā clear signs she wasnāt entirely happy.
Itās a good reminder of how sensitive living soil can be to even small adjustments.
Now itās time to focus on bringing things back into balance. š

ElNass šæ Vegetative Week 5
This week, I installed the first SCROG net to help space out the branches and guide early structure.
The idea was to use it for initial training and then add a second layer around week 3 of floweringā¦
But letās be real ā laziness won š
I didnāt fully weave the branches through, and the second net never made it up.
That said, I also took the chance to prepare the soil for the upcoming flowering phase with a carefully planned top dress:
šø Malted Barley ā 30g
šø Kelp Meal ā 15ā20g
šø Bat Guano ā 10g
šø Gypsum ā 10g
šø Basalt Rock Dust ā 10ā15g
The plant is adapting well, and even if the execution wasnāt perfect, weāre still moving forward step by step š±šŖ
Learning, growing ā and letting the plant teach me along the way.

Not gonna lie the plant looks pretty rough this week š
But based on my experience, Iām staying confident.
Some of my best plants in flower started off looking like a mess in veg they just needed time to shine š±āØ
One thing that really surprised me:
After the topping, instead of just two tops, I got four!
She may not be pretty (yet), but sheās definitely got potential.
At the end of the week, I did a light defoliation to open her up and get her readyā¦
Because now itās time to flip the switch lights set to 12/12 to kick off flowering! š”šø

I went on vacation this week and couldnāt take care of the little one myself luckily, my mom stepped in as the stand-in grower š
I think she may have underwatered a bit, which caused some minor imbalances, but nothing too serious.
The plant held up surprisingly well, and with a little adjustment, weāre back on track šæš¦
Shoutout to all the moms who keep our grows alive while weāre away! š

Weāre almost there! The aroma in the tent is incredible rich, complex, and getting stronger by the day š¬ļøš
Iāve been closely watching the trichomes, but weāre not quite ready yet: most are still clear to milky, with no amber in sight.
Whatās really stunning is the way the fan leaves have started turning a deep black, creating a beautiful contrast with the frosty layer of trichomes āļøš¤
Itās one of those moments that remind you why patience matters I canāt wait to enjoy the fruit of all this work,

The finish line is near⦠but patience is everything.
Trichomes are almost all milky now, but thereās still no sign of amber. The smell when I open the tent is insane: sweet, sharp, overwhelming⦠it makes me want to chop her down right away š¤
But Iām holding strong. I know week 10 could make all the difference.

ElNass Itās the tenth week of flowering, and at first, I thought the plant was almost ready for harvest. But the trichomes are taking longer than expected to shift from clear to amber. I was hoping to let it mature a bit more to get a richer, more balanced effect but the heat has suddenly become a real issue. Inside the grow box, temperatures are peaking at 29ā30°C, and the leaves are showing classic signs of heat stress, curling up into that familiar ātacoā shape.
Now Iām at a crossroads: wait a little longer for ideal ripeness, or harvest early to avoid risking the plantās health and more importantly, the drying process due to these high temperatures.

Curing is finally done and⦠wow! The aroma is incredible: creamy with sweet honey notes filling the room.
The taste is something else, leaving a cookie-like aftertaste with every puff.
The effect is pretty intense maybe a bit too strong for my liking but honestly, this is by far the best weed Iāve ever grown!

After a lot of research and tweaking, this is the final mix I built completely from scratch ā the ābattlegroundā where this adventure begins:
Final soil mix (for a 113L pot):
⢠55L sphagnum peat moss
⢠35L pumice
⢠20kg worm castings
⢠200g organic neem cake meal
⢠350g organic malted barley
⢠750g living biochar
⢠150g organic bone meal
⢠150g hydrolyzed kelp
⢠750g Cuban bat guano
⢠500g gypsum
⢠700g basalt rock dust
⢠500g oyster shell powder
⢠200g bokashi
But letās talk first lessons:
I made the mistake of planting all the cover crop mix that came with my amendments. What seemed like a good idea turned into an explosive overgrowth across the surface of the pot š±š„
The main plant ended up struggling early on due to competition, and I eventually had to remove most of the cover crop (next time, Iāll go easier on that part š ).
As for germination, I used the āglass of waterā method, letting the seed pop and then planting it directly into the final 113L pot.
Not my brightest move ā again, laziness got the best of me, and the seedling struggled at first in such a large environment.
Next time, Iāll start in a smaller pot and transplant later for a healthier start.
Despite these initial setbacks, Iām excited to see where this journey leads. A living soil for a living grow ā and a grower whoās learning every step of the way. šæš„
Let Season 1 begin!
@shwable, From my research and personal experience, Iāve learned that creating a truly efficient micro-ecosystem requires a large volume of soil. However, this comes with a major challenge: irrigation. The real game-changer for me was purchasing a soil water potential sensor (around ā¬100, but absolutely worth it). Since then, Iāve had no more irrigation issuesāaside from my own laziness! The sensor tells you exactly when to water and when not to, leading to a huge improvement in plant health and in the entire ecosystem, including the worms.
Another key discovery was using red Californian worms, which are the best at producing humus directly in the pot. You donāt need many, as they reproduce on their own and adjust their population based on the available space. Adding too many can actually cause them to migrate away.
Finally, introducing cover crops turned out to be an excellent move. Not only do they help keep the soil moist, but I would cut them down every couple of weeks and leave the chopped matter on the surfaceāproviding valuable food for both the plant and the worms.
