Germination
1y ago
birdmountain The plan is to leave them outdoors for as long as possible after germination and then harvest safely indoors in the grow box. 😎 Possibly one in the grow box and the other in the foil house. It's mid-July, so there are still a few weeks until flowering begins. The seeds are very large and strong, so there's a lot of energy in them. 💪 Big shock and mistake on my part; I placed the ceramic box on a heating mat and left a small gap open overnight. In the morning the paper wick was dry. I immediately added water, removed the heating mat and closed the lid. By the evening at least one seed had sprouted, phew! 😅 Fortunately, the second seed also germinated a day later. The germinated seeds were placed in sieved soil in small pots and showed their cotyledons and the beginnings of the first pair of leaves 5 days after the germination process began. Germination completed! 👍

birdmountain Both Ice Cream Haze plants are growing well indoors at 20 watts and have received their first fertilization with nettle manure, which has been very beneficial for them. Depending on the weather, they are either indoors or outdoors, currently mostly indoors. They are allowed to develop a little more before shaping begins. The two young plants are developing differently; whether this indicates two phenotypes remains to be seen.

birdmountain The two plants have not yet been repotted. I am still unsure which ones should go into the polytunnel and which ones into the grow tent. However, they are doing well so far. To prevent them from entering any flowering stage (if that is even possible at this age...), they were placed in the illuminated grow tent for a few hours in the evening. Thank you for visiting, and best wishes for a sunny and hot growing week—a heatwave is on the way.☀️ ICH #1 22 cm ICH #2 19 cm

birdmountain They appear to be two different phenotypes with different growth rates. No. 1 has already reached 50 cm, while No. 2 is lagging behind at 37 cm. Both are very herbaceous with nice, fairly even side shoots, which I try to achieve by turning the plant pots towards the sun. At night, they go into the grow box, and in the morning, they go back outside. I would like to take cuttings, but the tissue is still too herbaceous and soft for me, so I will have to wait a little longer. However, they are strong genetics, that's for sure. Thank you for visiting and best wishes for a successful week of growing. 🍀☀️

birdmountain During this last week of August, they were kept completely outdoors and were no longer placed in the grow tent in the evenings to adjust to the length of daylight. They are developing magnificently, ICH I is still a good bit further along than ICH II and already has a strong, specific scent. Both plants were defoliated slightly so that the leaves do not cover the shoots underneath. ICH I - 58 cm ICH II -- 42 cm Thank you for visiting, and best wishes for a successful week of growing! 😁

birdmountain The two Ice Cream Haze plants are real powerhouses with a big thirst. No further defoliation was carried out on them this week, and they are rewarding us with steady growth. The existing side shoots are getting longer and stronger, and the main shoots are continuing to grow, but not at the same pace as at the beginning. There are no flowers to be seen yet, and they will remain outside next week to enjoy the fresh air. They are strong genetics in terms of growth, leaf size, and habit. I wish you a successful week of growing! 😀

birdmountain I suspect they are just starting to flower. It's hard to determine the amount of water for the plants when it rains for days multiple times throughout the week. 😒 However, both plants have entered the flowering phase, and I need to slowly get the grow tent back in operation. Both ladies have grown very well and evenly, though one is a bit larger than the other. They won't both fit in the grow tent. I'm faced with the tough question of which one to choose, the smaller, broader-leaved one or the larger, better-smelling one? 😏 Both plants have grown well, but the stems are still very soft and herbaceous. In strong winds, they would easily bend. However, they are protected in my best sunny spot. The coming week is supposed to bring a few sunny days. Thank you for the visit and best wishes for a mold-free grow week. 😀

😀 --- I still see no reason to put them indoors. They have formed flowers that are getting bigger, defy rain and sun and are greedy for water. They are not yet fragrant when in flower, which would be a sign for me to be more careful, as in my experience this increases the risk of mould. They have large, strong dark green leaves and stand freely. There are no recognisable defects, so it can go on like this for a while. Thank you for your visit and best wishes for a successful grow week! 😀

birdmountain Both plants were moved this week due to all the rain so that they could find shelter under the tarp in an emergency. They continue to enlarge their flowers and are not bothered by the temperatures. There is no sign of mould, mildew or aphids. So far, these are problem-free plants. The outdoor experiment continues for another week. Many thanks for your visit and best wishes for a pleasant grow week!

birdmountain Both plants are still very dark green and, due to the very cold two nights with ground frost down to -3° C, have a shimmering black-red color. They are still very healthy and the flowers are developing, albeit at a low level due to the cool temperatures. They are now somewhat more sheltered in the foil tent, where the fan provides continuous air movement. The smaller of the two has somewhat stronger flowers and already exudes a little fragrance when touched. Both plants still need some watering in this weather. Off we go into the fifth week of flowering! Thank you for your visit, see you next week!

birdmountain Due to the not-so-cold week, the two ladies stayed in the foil tent. Two phenotypes are increasingly emerging. The shorter plant has much stronger flowers and a stronger scent. The flowers are very densely covered with trichomes and shimmer brightly. The leaves are still lush green and somewhat dark, which unfortunately also attracts a few small caterpillars that I was able to spot on them. The outdoor experiment will continue next week. Thank you for your visit, see you next week!

birdmountain That was the last week outdoors for at least one of the two plants. It's getting too cold now and the humidity combined with the cold is causing the fungal spores to bloom and spread. I only have room for one of the two ladies in my small grow box, but I'm faced with the decision of which one to choose. The smaller of the two is lower, with partly already bluish/purple colored leaves and thick compact flowers, the other is taller, slimmer with pure green leaves and longer buds. Both have a similar scent and both only fit individually in the grow box. Both still need to be treated with neem against the remaining caterpillars, I hope it helps. Nevertheless, it was interesting to see how resistant they are to the cold when they are still in the green stage and have not passed the main flowering stage. However, it would certainly have been better if I had sown them four weeks earlier, then they would have ripened completely in the foil tent. But that wasn't possible as the space was full. For a pot of only 9 liters, both plants have grown excellently and have formed a strong, compact structure without any treatment. Thank you for your visit!

Are they ready to harvest when they have only completed the sixth week of flowering but already have only white trichomes?

No buddy, they're just getting started. They'll really start to fatten up now and when near the end the big leaves will start dying and changing colour

I think it doesn't look finished yet. Did you check the trichomes on the sugar leaves, or on the bud itself? The trichomes on the leaves ripen much faster than on the bud itself. I think they still need a bit more time, even though there are strains that finish relatively quickly.

Hello friend your plant look great. Just be a little patient. You want to look for a good amount of the hairs starting to change colors. The buds will swell up a good amount the last week… I bet you have like 1 or 2 more weeks left. Just remember the plant will start looking go like fall with colors changing when it’s ready to be harvested

birdmountain The two ladies went their separate ways this week. The slightly smaller, indica-oriented plant with partly bluish leaves was placed in the small grow box, where it fitted perfectly, and the slightly larger, more sativa-oriented lady remained in the foil tent. In addition, the fan was moved back from the foil tent into the grow box to create a constant flow of air. Both plants are doing well, but the lady in the grow box is now producing a lot more resinous leaves. She has very few flowers but the sugar leaves are heavily covered with trichomes, right up to the edges. These leaves are slightly curled upwards. The already existing blue-violet coloring of some leaves has not turned back to green, this does not seem possible. The lady in the foil tent is still very green without any coloring and can withstand temperatures of around 5-6° C. at night and a maximum of 8-13° C. during the day very well. However, flower formation is at a low level. The air flow that the wind drives through the foil tent seems to be sufficient, the tent is largely empty. The caterpillar infestation was treated once with neem spray on both plants, although there are many feeding spots on trichome-free leaves, I can no longer find any fresh ones. A follow-up treatment will be carried out next week. Thank you very much for your visit!

birdmountain She is very tough, the lady in the foil tent. She remains mostly green, but her leaves are turning more and more purple. I have lost some flowering due to small outbreaks of mould, but the amount is marginal. She has a slight resinous scent and, for having to endure so much, her flowers and sugar leaves are well covered with trichomes. Eight weeks of flowering are now over, according to the grower she is ready to harvest after 8-10 weeks of flowering. I'm going to leave her a little longer to test her limits. She is protected from rain, her adversaries are cold and high humidity. Is it possible that she is reacting to this by producing fewer pistils but more sugar leaves? The other plant in the grow tent, on the other hand, is just starting to form new pistils, but the cold time in the foil tent has left its mark. Purple leaves remain purple, the caterpillar damage is ugly but she is forming lots of new trichomes on the leaves and flowers. She can remain in this protected atmosphere for a while. I couldn't find any more caterpillars. In the warmth of the grow tent, her scent also comes into its own; it is currently slightly caramelised sweet. Thank you very much for your visit!

Happy Harvest Day!

Rated

birdmountain The weather forecast predicted low temperatures of only 5° C. daytime temperature with daily continuous fog, so I decided to harvest. The lady in the grow box had caught mould in a leaf axil while still in the foil tent, the entire branch was drying out, so she was also harvested. Outdoor growing is and remains a ‘run with mother nature across seasons’, we cannot determine all the factors. This is a disadvantage but also a challenge that I gladly accept every year, be it tomatoes, peppers, artichokes or borlotti beans in the open field. I can now enjoy the results until the next season. However, after the season is before the season, a lot of seeds have accumulated and new varieties have to be selected. Thank you for following this diary!

Congrats on the grow and harvest. I would personally have let this one go a few more weeks. I would advise to pay no attention at all to a breeders claims of harvest schedule, and simply be guided by the plants - especially trichome development.
the end.
