Rangi_Kijani Golden Grow Power Cloner cleaned and ready to roll. Tips to be harvested from Momma have been misted twice over the past 10 days. I’ll take cuttings tomorrow morning at lights on and update further. This is the first time I have run the Cloner in this little propagation tent. Typically, I see roots forming within 7 days and they need to be moved to the DWC cabinet by Day 14.

Rangi_Kijani Saw Root nubs on some at Day 8 (1-2 days later than “usual”). On Day 9, I added RapidStart to the rez. I have also applied Clonex Mist every 2-3 days since cutting. I turned off all but 1 of the T5s because after the first couple of days it seemed perhaps they were getting more light than needed. Hopeful that there will be some decent development over the next couple of days and I’ll update pics them.

Rangi_Kijani All cuttings rooted. Most within 7-9 days. I moved 17 over to a Producer (grow box/cabinet), by wrapping each root crown in a Root Riot plug, then feeding the roots through the net pot (most had roots >10" long), and carefully filling the pot with Growstones. They seem to be adjusting to the new environment pretty well. Even though they've gone from being under only 2 x 2' T5s to now under 2 x 400W MH, because of the difference in light distance from the plants (8" vs 39"), the lux being delivered to the plants is not drastically different. The DWC setup has stainless still coils (through which cold water is pumped as needed) to keep the temp at 68°F. Dissolved oxygen is maximized through use of an O2 Grow unit. A small pump gentle circulates the solution in the reservoir. A separate pump provides top-drip fertigation for 5 min, once per day. Reservoir is changed weekly. The air temp right now is ~78°, which is fine, but when it starts to rise in flower, I have a cooling radiator attached to the intake fan to keep temps as desired. I am only using Mantis Buffered Nutrients and UC Roots (to keep the rez sterile). Mantis is a product I recently began using and the plants seem to love it! It is also uber user friendly: completely buffered so no pH adjustments are required, and - very new to me - there is NO feed schedule. You feed 5 ml/L ALWAYS from seed to harvest. That produces an EC of ~1.0 (TDS = 500 on 500 scale). After the plants have settled in, I'll remove the ugly leaves and any undesired lower nodes.

Rangi_Kijani They seem to be settling in well and starting to kick into growth mode. All but 1 of 17 had roots in the water when I brought them over from the Cloner. The 1 holdout is finally dropping roots now and they’re almost in the water. I’ve been using a syringe to wet the bottom of the net pot to encourage downward growth and to keep the emerging tips moist. A bit of root discolouration, but I’m reasonably certain this is just runoff from the Root Riot starter cubes I wrapped around the root crowns. I’ll let them gain a bit more height then too them. I’m thinking I’ll do a clean 4 cola per plant configuration.

How often the cooling system turns on to down the water temperature? Nice setup! I wish you luck!

@Psilocubensis, thanks very much. I have an Inkbird controller that monitors the temp and opens/closes a solenoid valve for the flow of cold water through the coils 😎

@Rangi_Kijani, and which mechanism chill the water? I like to use peltier, but is always good to learn some new technique.

Rangi_Kijani commented6y ago
@Psilocubensis, I have an Active Aqua 1/4 HP chiller that keeps a 50 gal cold water reservoir (only for cooling - no plant contact) at 45°F. That Cold Rez supplies all of my various “zones” throughout my grow spaces.

@Rangi_Kijani, 45ºC ?

@Psilocubensis, F not C. Typo. Thx for pointing out 😎

@Rangi_Kijani, is this temperature in the root zone? Doens't the cold damage it?
Rangi_Kijani
Rangi_Kijani commented6y ago
@Psilocubensis,nutrient solution is maintained at 68°F +/- 1°F. The “cold” from the water inside coils is quickly transferred to and dissipated throughout the solution. Water conducts heat 20x faster than air. 😎

Did you tryout to let them flowering in aero system ? Is it possible?
Rangi_Kijani
Rangi_Kijani commented6y ago
@Black_Magic,the aero Cloner doesn’t have room for either the vegetative or root growth. After 2 wks in the Cloner (after cutting from the mom) space is already getting tight! It’s a very cool idea though. Actually this grow box is designed with a “bubbleponics” system in that it is DWC but the airstones create a spritzing of the roots that are in the air - between the net pot and the water surface - mKing it similar also to aeroponics. In my setup, I’ve ditched the air stones in favour of the O2 Grow electrolysis unit and I keep my water level <1” below the pots.

@Rangi_Kijani,I did try it but didn’t go well, with water mister

That's a nice system. Are those plain rocks in place of lava rock?
Rangi_Kijani
Rangi_Kijani commented6y ago
@freshwaterjellyfish,TYVM. Those are Growstones (GS-1) which are made from recycled glass. They suggest that they have better properties re water/air balance than hydroton 🤷‍♂️🏻 But they seem to work well and certainly less issues with overwatering than could be the case with Rockwool imo

Added a few more pics to Wk 4 Veg after I installed a net over them. They’ve almost all been topped now.

Just added a quick panning video to Wk 4 Veg. I was struck this morning at lights on how much they had grown over the past 24 hrs. Even that 1 in the front (2nd from right) that has been slow to drop roots and looks a bit rough up top is almost there.should have roots in the water by tomorrow. Finally. Lol. 😎
