lots of people have this goal but don't stick with it.
The problem is that the tweaks you need to make can't be done midstream. So, if your soil is constituted in an imbalanced way you can't do anything about that until the next grow cycle. you'll be fighting that def/tox/lockout the entire time. Once you do find a balance of components that consistently produce healthy plants seed to harvest, it's obvioulsy pretty cool thing to accomplish.
Be systematic... you don't need lab precision ratios of components, but you also can't just do it sloppily and expect consistent results.
Unless you have a proven formula to start, the soil constitution is going to take some trial and error. Patience and a little critical thinking necessary, and once you get there it's on cruise control.
