FireGreenBud Week 1 Throughout the week I got the light closer to 12 inches from the canopy and go from 20% to 40% power. I also slowly increase the daily watering amount as needed. By the end of the week adding a small amount of superthrive to the water. These seeds seem more viable than my last grow, different breeder. No damping, the seedlings mostly broke free from the shell by themselves, and decent day 1 growth. Overall growing much more quickly. Slower growth from 9/14-16 based on environment. I am still dialing in my lighting situation for seedlings. I think I removed the dome too early and the plants were establishing under the LED. As well as a heat wave for a few days. Which is why I removed the dome. Next grow I will sort out some of these issues. Temps and humidy will be easy to manage into winter. I will put them in the final pots in the morning and make a resevouir to start the feeding schedule. day 1 9/12 put seeds in starter cubes 10 PM day 1 9/13 Calling this day 1 of the week 1-2mL RO water day 2 9/14 1-2mL RO water day 3 9/15 2-3mL RO water day 4 9/16 3mL RO water day 5 9/17 5-8mL 400 EC - superthrive day 6 9/18 5-8mL RO water - I don't think they liked superthrive or the light is too close. A little burning on the tips. day 7 9/19 8-10mL of RO water - some leaf twisting - Have noticed this on last strain and lot of other random diaries I am going to just assume it's nothing or from nutes.

FireGreenBud week 2 Throughout the week I slowly increase the feeding frequency. Flooding 1 time a day to as close to once every hour as I can get. On 9/23 I noticed more burning developing on the leaves. I don't think I cleaned the rocks enough. I think they needed one more 24 hour soak to remove the sodium bicarbonate. Increasing the flooding to every hour made the plants looks much better. I did a good flush with clearex on 9/26, pouring water from above as well. I kept the clearex solution in the reservoir until lunch and did another long flush. Then swapped for the week 2 nutrient solution. They are looking much better and more perky. With a nice shade of green developing. This weeks nutrient feeding is based on the light application of the Floranova feeding chart. Side note: My menards bucket pots didn't work as well as I thought. Cheaper than anything but for some reason the ebb and flow fittings are not sealing. They now drip every feeding, through the threads it appears. I could have fixed it with hot glue or rubber. I just decided to modify my table design for the buckets. So now the table will be an enclosure for the reservoir. The buckets can drip all they want. I am just going back to a flood table the next grow. I just want to go back to basics and get a couple pounds of good smoke. This is getting too complicated. I can have 4 flowering plants so 8 inch net pots will be fine. day 8 9/20 I put the plants in the pots with rocks. Just RO water from the reservoir. They definitely need nutrients soon. day 9 9/21 Still RO water. I will make a new reservoir for the morning with the first week of the light nutrient feeding schedule from Floranova. day 10 9/22 3 floods today 380 EC - They seem to have established today and are growing faster. Monitoring the wetness of the plug. day 11 9/23 Seeing burning developing. The EC was only 380, I think the rocks are not clean enough. day 12 9/24 Part of it was from under watering. Roots need the consistent wet rocks to expand, makes sense. Increased feeding to once/hour. day 13 9/25 Plants are looking better with flooding every hour. Flooding regularly is leeching the salt from the rocks. day 14 9/26 Started the morning with a good 5 min clearex flush. Pouring water from above as well. Will swap for nutrient solution around lunch.

FireGreenBud week 3 Topped after the fifth node, at the end of the week. Removed the bottom two nodes. The little one is definitely a different phenotype and not just a runt. Red stems on the leaves and some red on the stalks of both plants. Probably from the sodium bicarbonate toxicity. They could probably also use a higher EC. I don't think the salt has fully leeched, so I am not going to push it. They are growing well and should be ready for flowering a few days late at most. This weeks reservoir is just the peak week 1 nutrients, to not cause further problems. day 15 9/27 The EC started at 700 and dropped to about 650. day 16 9/28 Increased feeding time to 2 minutes every hour. EC back to 700. day 17 9/29 day 18 9/30 The bigger plant looks a little droopy. Increased feeding to 3 minutes every hour. Ph is not drifting much anymore. day 19 10/1 They big one might need another minute added to feeding. The little one is thriving. day 20 10/2 Topping after the 5th node and removed bottom nodes on the big plant. I will remove the bottom nodes on the little plant in a day. day 21 10/3 Flushed 10 minutes with clearex in the morning. Made a new res, 21.5ml in 5 gallons ph at 5.8 ph. Increased flooding to 5 min/hour

FireGreenBud week 4 The tops are all coming up nicely. Both have 6 tops at the canopy level, with the 2 bottom nodes not far behind. Noticing clawing later in the week. This happened during my last grow around this time. The buckets don't drain the last 1/4 inch of water. I dropped back the feeding to a minute every hour, the same as last time. This helped again, they look more perky. They are somewhat darker green but not too much. Possibly a nitrogen excess. I used to flood for 15 minutes every hour with higher EC solutions. Which is why I will go back to a flood table the next grow. I can ensure proper dry backs and rule out watering amounts vs frequency more easily. The reservoir for most of the week is 5 gallons of RO water with 22.5 ml of floranova grow. EC is ~1160 at 5.8 ph. I changed it later in the week to try to catch up to the proper feeding schedule, a week behind. 25ml in 5 gallons at 5.8 ph. ~1600 EC. I should be closer to 2000 EC on week 4. They also have a half week, at least, before flowering. Side note: Compared to the last grow with Fox Farm cultivation nation nutrients, I am very pleased with Floranova. I had probably spent 80USD on Fox Farm nutrients at this point to mostly correct micro nutrient problems. You need the grow, the micro, the cal-mag, and open sesame to not have issues with fast growing hydro. Flowering just gets more expensive. You run out of everything but the dry nutrients and cal-mag in one grow. All I am using now is Floranova grow and no deficiency problems. This bottle will last 10 vegs at least. It looks like organics too with the chelated micros but no poo smell, like sterilized mud. day 22 10/4 day 23 10/5 day 24 10/6 The EC is slowly dropping, margin of error most days. day 25 10/7 day 26 10/8 Flushed with RO water for 10 minutes, the end of the day. Removing any left over salts and clearex. Pouring water from the top also. day 27 10/9 New res, 25 ml of nutrients in 5 gallons of RO water at 5.8 ph. ~1600 EC Noticing more clawing. day 28 10/10 EC dropped below 1500. Ph mostly stable if not rising and water level is dropping. This points to plants want more, normally.

FireGreenBud week 5 Switching to flowering today. They are ~12 inches tall. Last grow I was tricked by indica looking plants, over 40 inches becomes a problem. I removed some lower leaves and nodes on side branches. I am going to do a trellis and will spread them out as they reach it, most likely. The last pictures are from today day 1 of flowering. The reservoir is 25ml in 5 gallons of RO at 5.8 ph. ~1600 EC day 29 10/11 EC continues to drop to 1450. Water level dropping and ph is mostly stable. day 30 10/12 Noticing burning on the tips of new top growth from growing into the light. day 31 10/13 EC is dropping too fast? Now it's ~1270. I have not noticed it dropping this fast before. day 32 10/14 Switching to flowering. Did a flush with clearex at the end of the day. Switched to bloom nutrients.

FireGreenBud week 6 flowering week 1 Some hairs developing at the end of the week. Put up the trellis on 10/16 at 16 inches height. They are stretching about 1 inch a day. My ph meter is not working properly. I think my ph has actually been below 5.5. Noticed some leaf issues and decided to double check the ph with the old liquid vial test kit. 5.9 on the meter was orange with a red tint in the vial, 6 is supposed to be more yellow. The red stems make sense now. This was probably my issue around week 5 of flowering, last grow. I am going to buy another ph meter today. The reservoir this week is 5 gallons of RO water with 27.5ml of Floranova bloom ~1600 EC. The daily work is irrelevant because of the PH meter being off.

Why not drill some holes in the top of those buckets and tie down all your tops? I read you say height is a problem? Well if you have the light for it , you can grow horizontally.. maybe won’t be the best turn on your first grow around.. but you only have one way to go ;)

@FireGreenBud, ahh yes.. I too have a similar issue. I can only enter my tent from two sides as I have it in a corner. Makes hard to trellis haha. Cheers bro! Hope you have a sweet harvest

@Grower_Tom, I have to go under the trellis and I am 6 foot tall so it's still hilarious. Yeah, I had a lot of issues last grow with the size. I have enough pictures I could make a diary of the last grow. I want this grow to just be simple. I want them to be manageable enough to harvest as one plant as well. I am not so happy with the last grow. I lost a lot of terps in week 5 of flowering somehow. After harvest, I looked under a microscope and there was a lot of dead trichomes. Still 99% good healthy ones but mostly clear and half milky. But enough dead ones that confused me for harvest. I didn't get a lot of terps back and they don't taste good. Not bad just bland. Really high THC and 13 jars plus some bags worth.

@Grower_Tom, Essentially it's been 25 years since I've grown. I need the basics again. I am going to do back to back grows for the foreseeable future. Next is Gary Payton and Mimosa.

Just realized you’re doing a Blimburn grow, not sure if they still do it, but they use to give blimcoins and free seeds for completing a diary on here to harvest.

@Grower_Tom, I forgot to say so I'll add it here since it applies to this. That is essentially the plan when I go back to buckets after doing a flood table again. Drill holes in the side and I have a ton of hook screws. Then tie to there. But I want a fast veg too. 5 weeks max. They just didn't grow as fast as they could have this time.

@FireGreenBud, yeah that’s definitely the way to do it! Sorry I didn’t mean to imply anything, I just didn’t read that you were wanting a fast turnover, so that makes sense sense now :) nice to meet a fellow old school grower like myself! Use to grow out bag seeds in the 90’s and early 2000’s. This LED growing and some of the stuff they’re doing now is pretty wild! So nice to see how far it’s come. If we woulda had gear like this back then oh boy.. lol

@Grower_Tom, I think we live in a similar climate humid hot summers and dry winters.. Those HPS and MH back in the day were brutal. I find it hilarious that we just blasted plants with lumins. I was skeptical the last grow with just 150 watt light so I bought another for flowering. In a 3x3 this 150 could easily do 2 plants. I would have never used less than a 400 watt HPS back in the day.

Grower_Tom commented4d ago
@FireGreenBud, yeah I’d say we do! Is it bad some days I miss the halides and HPS lol. LED is definitely efficient. The biggest for me is keeping the drivers out of the tents and keeping temps down easier.
