Germination

CaliBoyTF Well, after a long time without growing, I’ve finally reached the stability to start again. I’ve been growing my own indoor weed since 2017, but had to stop after the COVID period due to financial difficulties. Now I’m back. Since it’s been so long without cultivating, I decided to germinate all 10 seeds in case any of them failed. I’m glad to see I haven’t lost my touch, as so far I haven’t lost a single one in the germination process. I must say it’s no secret, and certainly not magic — the credit goes entirely to the mycorrhizae. No paper towels, water cups, or strange methods. Just like nature does it: a humid environment, a good peat jiffy, and the mycorrhizae will take care of the rest.

CaliBoyTF After just 48 hours since germination, most already had a very well-developed root, forcing me to transplant much sooner than expected. I don’t mind that — I’ve always preferred to place the seedlings directly into their final pots as early as possible. That way, during the short period I keep them in, they fully develop their root systems, achieving the best possible results. I decided to grow number 10 temporarily; later I’ll move it to a small balcony to get it out of the way. I’m very particular about my grow setup — a uniform distribution (3x3, 4x4, 5x5, etc.) helps maximize PPFD and results in plants that are very similar in both yield and quality. During the early stages, I keep each quantum board at its minimum adjustable level, probably around half its power, for a total of about 220W for early growth. P.S.: Don’t be surprised by my growing method — I leave all the work to the micro-life in the substrate, completely ignoring pH and EC levels. Careful observation is all that’s needed to make the most of it. The platform doesn’t account for the amount of fertilizer in ml per liter. Keep in mind that these are the measurements I’ll always use.

CaliBoyTF Good morning, dear cannabis growers. I voluntarily delayed the diary in order to align the blog dates with the real-time growth of the little ones. They are finally at their 14th day, the second week. There have been some issues, such as seed shells that prevented the cotyledons from emerging in many seedlings (the difference between them is noticeable). To my surprise, a clear candidate for disposal has appeared: a beautiful tri-cotyledon plant, something almost as rare in cannabis as a four-leaf clover. The reason for discarding it is, as I already mentioned, the “asymmetric” cultivation plan, since I intend to perform pruning later on. Given that this plant would develop three branches per node, it could become problematic with those techniques. They have been watered and fertilized three times throughout their life, maintaining 700 ml per plant, watering in circles close to the edge of the pot — not directly around the plant, but rather to activate and benefit the substrate’s microbiota. For now, I’m still using Biorhizotonic and Bio Vega from the Canna brand.

CaliBoyTF We’re starting the third week of growth. They show good vigor and are beginning to develop broad leaves of a beautiful emerald green color. The tricotyledon suddenly continues growing like a normal dicotyledon, while one of the plants that had been doing well has slowed its growth and is starting to show a “mutant” phenotypic expression, with long, serrated, thinner leaves, developing new pairs of leaves in varying sizes and numbers. This one has been officially chosen to be placed on the terrace. I’ve only fertilized twice during this stage; a third feeding is now added, continuing with Biorhizotonic at 2 ml per liter and Bio Vega at 4 ml per liter.

What type of soil you use, I’m looking for some water only options

@Itshimlee, Good morning, you have misinterpreted my description. I use "just water" to germinate my seeds in jiffys, adding only mycorrhizae. Many years ago, I tried making "living soil" mixes and concluded, after tests and a lot of study on the subject, that broadly enriched soils are better for outdoor cultivation where the plant is not limited in terms of root growth. In a pot, you cannot use the necessary amount of substrate for a complete cultivation from start to finish, unless of course you transplant regularly, including during the flowering stage (which I would not recommend). It is better to use liquid fertilizer as it provides the necessary amount of nutrients and gradually adds organic matter, something you cannot do in the soil because you run the risk of over-fertilization or creating phytotoxicity in your plant. Returning to the topic, I use pure Sphagnum Peat substrate, with a 70/30 ratio of Perlite or Pumice Stone, depending on whether you are looking for outdoor or indoor cultivation. The latter lasts longer in the mother soil, the former aerates and decompacts, making it more suitable for pots.
