Overall, i'm very satisfied with the grow up to this point. First time growing indoors and first time growing autos but i definitely learned a lot and hope to do even better next run!
I'm definitely looking forward to updating on the smell and taste of the cured buds. They look amazing already!
Update:
- Buds have been curing now for about 7 weeks and the moisture content is mostly stable around 62-63% RH.
- Flavour and quality of smoke has increased greatly.
- I wouldn't want to have given it any less than 6 weeks but i will likely give it the full 3 months that i had originally planned.
I really liked the Remo lineup i was using. I think if i was to purchase them individually, i might leave out the VeloKelp & Nature's Candy if i was looking to save a few bucks.
Day 69: HARVEST!
- After 48 hours complete darkness, and with the soil completely dry, the time to chop was upon us!
- My girl wet-trimmed "EM-2" and did a great job getting rid of all the brown leaves, which had started affecting the sugar leaves pretty badly too. She hung individual branches on coat hangers.
- "EM-1" and "EM-3b" were chopped and hung as entire plants.
- Removed light and the 2 circulating fans from the tent, hanging 2 plants up high, and one below.
- A/C unit still connected to the tent, providing a gentle breeze coming in at the bottom.
- Exhaust fan was reduced to 30%, providing just enough air flow to maintain negative pressure and provide a steady movement of air around the plants.
- Temp: 65F
- RH: 60-65%
Day 73 (drying day 4)
- "EM-2" has dried to where the buds are crispy, yet pliable. Trimmed buds from branches and put into jars, with the tops left off.
- "EM-2" has come out at 89 grams and was the smaller of the 3 plants.
Day 78
- Just finished trimming and putting into jars "EM-1" and "EM-3b".
- Those 2 plants spent 9 days drying.
- "EM-1" came in at 74g
- "EM-3b" unfortunately ended up with pretty airy buds and i'd say about half the weight ended up just going into our trim bag, which we'll use for hash. The buds were very sticky with trichs but just not enough density for me to be happy with.
- "EM-3b" weighed in at 54g of smoke-able buds.
In total, we have 217 grams of buds curing.
We have about 100 grams of trim, including larf, sugar leaves and buds that were just too airy for me to want to keep.
Brown/rust spots have been increasing on one of my 3 plants.
Appearing on upper and lower, newer and older leaves. Does not appear to be a light/heat issue.
Treating it as possible Cal def by increasing cal-mag nutes.
hey there , calcium was the symptom but light stress was the culprit i'm afraid, you gotta lower your lights to around 30cm (max) - 40cm (min) it seems close, but in fact that's pretty normal, that plus a regular regimen of cal mag and the problem should stop spreading almost immediately. Hope this helps ! ๐
@CRiSPrGrow, Cheers! I"m just hoping these ladies can stick it out at least another week or so. I don't see "EM-2" recovering too well but hopefully she makes it through!
...and ya, been meaning to jump on the chat and say hello. ๐
@CRiSPrGrow, Thanks! Wasn't sure if it was Cal or P deficiency. I've increased both my CalMag and phosphorus so hope things start looking better before final week of flush.
Thanks again for the input!
Hi @VanCplGrows! Nice ladies in there ๐ I'm thinking more of a Phosphorous deficiency, considering you're giving loads of nutrients, I think your plants had enough Calcium and Magnesium. My bet is that you're having salts buildup in your medium, because of an intense feeding schedule and probably a lack of runoff, your rootmass is flooded with old nutrients, and is unable to manage nutrients intakes anymore (lockout leading to deficiencies). In this situation I would flush the medium with tap water buffered at pH 6.2, then help the medium to dry by putting a small fan blowing a continuous breeze on the container's surface. Once almost dry, see how this goes, and probably give it a good meal with Phosphorous and Potassium. Affected leaves won't recover but the new ones should be healthy. Hope this will help, keep us updated and happy growing! ๐
Hey @Stick, thanks for the message. Ya, i've sort of started focusing more on the phosphorous rather than Cal-Mag. My feeding schedule for most of the grow has actually been pretty light. I usually feed 2-3 times per week and only with 30% of the recommended dose. It's only been this past week that i've increased the nutrients.
When feeding, i typically only water just until run off starts. When watering with plain pH'd tap water, i tend to water fairly heavily and the run off comes through relatively clear.
I've tried to maintain the idea that under-feeding is better than over-feeding but since i don't have a proper EC meter, only a pH meter, it's hard to truly know what's coming out.
I figure this will probably be my last week of feeding, then will do a 1 week flush, so not a ton of time for me to turn things around but i'll keep your advice in mind to try and avoid any future problems.
Much appreciated! ๐
