Welcome, welcome! To my diary. Today is the start of an Apple strudel run. Accompanying her is a Blue Dream Auto. You can find that diary on my page.
So this week will be basically nothing to report until we get a seedling. So let me take a moment and explain what the game plan is. I'm running DWC and will be using Lotus Nutrients again. This time though, I'm starting at 33% strength and work my way up til she's happy. I'm also going to back off the light. Those were the 2 mistakes I made last run. That and somehow causing a fungal infection. Needless to say, I've learned my lesson.
That being said, let's get to work, shall we?!

She sunk! That was pretty fast. Her counterpart didn't, but that's ok. I've changed my mind. This run I'm going to use Advanced Nutrients pH Perfect Grow Micro Bloom instead of Lotus. I might have to use the Carboflush from Louts as I don't have much flawless finish left. But I have all the fixins. And more. I'm running Silica Blast from Botanicare instead of Rhino Skin and Hydrogaurd instead of Sensizyme. And all the rest are Advanced Nutrients.
I've also finished installing her to the rock wool cube and have her in the Germination System with the lights off. I was gonna use my root riot plugs as I like them. But I left a paper towel in the bag and it molded. So those are gone. Luckily I have actual hydroponics stuff, so that's cool. Stupid me, I stuffed the cube into the tray spot and had to pull it back out so I can get it out easier when it's time to add her to the clay pebbles. That should be about a week or 2. Hopefully closer to 2 weeks.

We have a taproot! It's only been like 2 days and we already have a tap root. This Apple Strudel seems like it might be a fast one. We'll have to see for ourselves, won't we.
I am still working on the environment. I have a heater blowing toward the System to try and warm it up. The humidity is high. And I mean high. Like 80s and 90s high.
Nevermind I fixed it. I popped the little fan I have on the heater side so it blows in. The temp with lights out is now around 69°. The humidity is down to 70%. Much better. I haven't tested the lights on environment yet. I was going to yesterday, but I forgot. So now I'll wait to put the lights on. I'll do it tomorrow. Currently it's too late in the morning to do it. Lights on is from 6am to 12am. At 18/6. And it's currently 12 pm.

So we should be seeing this little lady breaking surface today. Probably a few hours or so. By tomorrow we should have a full fledged seedling. A new baby to tend to. The environment is looking wonderful. 74° and 67%. I couldn't be happier with this outcome. TTYL

She has broke surface. Still a little crooked, but that's fine. She'll pop up within the day. She looks good. A little yellowing on one of the tip of the cotyledons. No clue why that happened, but she's still standing up. I have 2 more seeds in case she goes south. On a good note, her tap root is already out of the block. Not far, but still. It'll be twice as long by the end of the day. Maybe even more.
The Blue Dream I'm also running has a tap root about an inch long. My concern is how deep the water it for her to reach. I mean, it's probably a good thing with how I have it set up. The rock wool cubes don't fit in the tray hole things. (Can't remember the word at the moment). So I have them slightly pressed in to hold them in place. There's about a 1 inch difference between the cube and the bottom of the tray. So this setup mimics the DWC setup. I know it's probably a bad thing for a seedling. I don't know. Any thoughts?... Anyone? Lol. Partition? What the fuck is that word? Damnit!
Ok, so the environment. Well, I opened the dome this morning to top off the tray a little. And I got a super musty smell. No clue why. It was fresh water. Well, no it's been in there for like 4 days. Anyway, I changed the water out with fresh pHed water. I might as well swap this water every few days. Well, that's if they last in the Germination System. Who knows, maybe she'll grow exponentially out grow the dome in a few days.
Anyway, the temp and humidity are stabilizing. And we are seeing roughly 73° and 74%. I'd like that temp to be at 77°, but I don't think I can. It's winter here and the apartment is staying at a cool 67°. The lights aren't very hot, so they aren't providing much heat. The heat mat is on the medium setting, no clue how hot that is.
Either way, I might have to increase the temp, but then that significantly increases the water temp. I don't need hot water. I need hot air. Lol. Well, warm air. I still have the heater pointed straight at the System, but it's not doing much. Insulation sucks here. A slum apartment. You know. Broken down and old. Like the door is rotting away. There's gaps between the panes of glass on the balcony door. So that does absolutely nothing except let all the cold air in. Happily, that blows directly on the Dry Tent, keeping it cool.
I kinda wish I had the controller for this thing. I could set it to level 7 and be done with it. Damn.

Whoops. Forgot to add my entry. In my defense I was in the trim jail for most of the day. Papaya Cookies finished up. Let me say, the cannabrush I have really only works with big buds. Don't bother the smaller ones. It tears them apart.

Merry Xmas!
Dude! She is 3 inches already. Is that leggy for a 3 day old plant? Her leaves show she's happy. No reaching. No real drooping. Nothing to show the light is too bright, not too weak. I might have to drop alut a point. I had it at 6, but then I decided to change it back to 5. It looked like it was a bit too much. I might have to drop it again if she gets any taller.
She has her taproot out and tons of little feeler roots. But no other roots showing yet. Strange. I wonder if that's normal for a hydroponic setup with seedlings. What I want to know is how the roots get oxygen in the tray can't exactly provide it. Hmmm. Oh well, I'll be adding them to the tent when I see some true leaves. I'm hoping the roots are growing and she isn't stretching still. I really need her to not be leggy. We'll see. I can't take DLI measurements either. So it's mostly guess work. Like right now. I have no idea where the light should be, so I'm leaving it at 5.
Update:
She's definitely leggy. I will have to bring the light up to 6 again. I don't get it she was fine but now she's leggy. Not that it's super bad, but I want her to stop growing and work on her roots. I will have a healthy plant. She will stay healthy throughout the whole run. I will make no mistakes. I will make sure to run the DLI below 45 mol.
She also has a couple more roots popping out the bottom. Just a couple. I'm hoping for a bunch then I'll switch her to the bucket. In the grow tent, it'll be 77° through the run until flower which I will drop down to 74°.

So this morning I woke up to 55° in my apartment and 61° in the Germination System. Much too cold. No clue what to do. I don't have control of the thermostat. So that's not good. I really need a better apartment. The living room, where I keep my setup, has leaky windows and a super leaky outside door. I might have to buy that plastic cover stuff to help keep the cold air out. It's really bad. Like the wind is just blowing right inside. And the heat is off. I have a space heater blowing at everything, but it's not enough. This is a problem.
Either way, she started growing more roots, so that's good. But I think she slowed down because of the cold air. And from my experience, the tap root should already be superong. It's not. There's several roots coming out, but barely. But it's good. They are coming out. Definitely not enough heat. Damn.

I got the space heater out yesterday and brought the temp up to 75° the humidity 76%. So looking super good.
She's exactly 3" tall on day 5. That's pretty good. I was really worried she'd get taller and more leggy, but it looks like she's now developing the leaves. No node yet though. Maybe today.
So here's what happened last night. I had the light up to 50% and she was reaching a bit, so I bumped it up to 60%. 2 hours later she is standing straight up. Leaves right behind. So I adjusted it to 80% still nothing. So 90% it was. Now the reach is much better. But that's crazy. She was happy at 50% 2 days ago.
Then poof! Gimme more! And a lot more. I don't think my phone with photone can read the inside of the dome very well. It was saying the DLI was at 16 mol at 60%. So I turned it down to 40% and it was 12 mol. Perfect starting point. Then up to 50% for a day. I did 60% yesterday morning and by the end of the day we are at 90% and she finally relaxed. Well, I'm thinking it was during lights out that she relaxed. I guess we'll see what happens.
I was worried about the leggy growth, but now I think it may be perfectly normal as she's a sativa. Who knows. Plus it's hydro I'm running. So I should expect explosive growth for the first half of her life. We'll see, won't we. Mmhmm.
Update: I moved her to the Grow Tent. Now she's in her bucket still complaining about the lack of light. I have 150 watts pointing right at her from 25". What gives? The Blue Dream in the tent is fine. They are the same age and height.
I also added a very mild solution of nutrients to the water. Dont know if that was the best idea, but she's pretty well rooted and clearly hungry due to the reach. Hopefully it's ok. And when I say mild, I mean like an 1/8 of the normal dose. When she starts veg, I'll probably bump her up her normal dose. Which is 1/3 of the normal dose. If she's hungry I'll up the dose. Until she's looking good. Maybe she's super hungry and will grow exponentially faster. I've never done this before with a seedling, but I figured worst case, she dies and I have to start another one. I don't think so though.
Also, I'm using Advanced Nutrients pH Perfect Grow Micro Bloom and let me say, the dose was I think too low to swing the pH down. It was 7.4 when I finished adding everything in. It didn't go anywhere from what the tap water is. So I pHed it. I'm gonna check it again to see if it swings in a little while. I really hope not. I had a major swinging issue last run. If it happens again, I'm gonna have to see about getting an RO system or something. Last run it was a mix of issues with the plant and water. So if it happens again, and there aren't any issues, then we know it's the water. Or my pH pen. Lol. I really want to get the AC Infinity one. Soon.
Anyway, that's the update. Wish me luck. Lol
