ohcibi Ken popped 6 days after Ryu. But they’ll catch up soon. Please forgive that I’m importing the first parts of this grow in batches. I’ll post more detailed updates once that’s done (and I’ll be a bit more familiar with the interface)

ohcibi Preparation for Christmas where I will be away for a week. Topping both plants multiple times. Increasing light to full intensity and prolonged on times. Plants tank everything like the champs they are. Ryu suffered both an injury from replanting where he got his leaves inside the fan. I clean cut the damaged leaves eventually. Likewise my shivering hands damaged his young shoots when topping and they came out with broken fingers. He recovered without blinking an eye and said „you must defeat my dragon punch, to stand a chance“. I said „yeah, yeah, whatever“. With Ken I was much more careful. Along with his direct to pot planting and synchronized feeding strength with Ryu he’ll soon turn out to be the spoiled brat he is. Fat. But strong.💪 I had a short visit of what turned out to be a single fungus gnat. I immediately shifted to true veggie watering and kept the top 2-3 cm of soil dry. Creating a larvae cemetery in worst case. Apparently it became a Crypt for a single gnat instead. And yes, eventually I understood to train the branches, not the leaves.

ohcibi I don’t have no pictures of this week obviously. I prepared by taking off all the training wires just to make sure the plants don’t hurt themselves. I put 1.5 liters of fertilized waters each. I’m using a fine spray pump which sprays that amount over several minutes so it wets the soil very evenly. I set the light schedule to 18/6 to reduce water intake. I came back on them hanging for a bit but with explosive growth. 9 finger leaves pushing everywhere. The strain is pushing fingers like crazy with one extra finger (making an even number of fingers) on many leaves, so I guess I’ll see a ten finger leaf soon.

ohcibi After coming back from Christmas the leaves where hanging a little bit but have recovered mostly since. They feel watery and velvety again and most yellow spots have vanished. Week has only started yet. I guess I’ll top some more today or tomorrow. Flower is planned in a week or so. After recovery from next and final topping. I’m done importing (mostly) and will post daily(-ish) updates from now on.

ohcibi Flower starts in this week. Ima start off 1 day later, so the first night is still on 22/2 because I want the topped shoots to develop properly. Also I have done some more defoliation and just want to give everything another day of recovery. I pushed training hard in the final veggie week because I had two squeeze everything into one week. Additionally I did the mistake of watering the leaves with fertilized water which caused some heavy burn marks. Fortunately as this happened to fan leaves mostly I had to defoliate them anyway. With no hanging leaves and all shoots developing properly ima switch to flower on January 2nd.

Vegan Phosphor Boost

ohcibi So entering week 7 after a suspiciously long week 6. Well I guess I am synced now. This week is already the second time I applied the Phosphor Boost that comes with my 5 in 1 fert. The growth is magnificent. After week 6 started somewhat troublesome because them plants were still on recovery they quickly filled out the entire scrog net in its width and are scratching full height as well. I’m very satisfied with my training results although I’m still defoliating too much and sometimes the wrong leaves. Need to focus on keeping more strong leaves and picking out the useless ones better. The Phosphor Boost btw is 3 grams per plant per week, spilled evenly over the soil.

ohcibi After a week of super stretch to today 52 centimeters which crashes the 100% growth mark finally bud sites became clearly visible. Now for the final phase. Water intake is massive. When I upped to 2.5l per plant per 2 days from before 1.5l I saw zero difference in how fast the soil went dry etc. The plants stopped transpiring as much such that my humidity came a bit down. I was up to 60% at some times during the day. But it’s down to 50-55 again. Depends a bit on how often I vent the room. Gotta have to have a final stress point which is that I might have too move. Will share some pictures of how I’ll pull it off. Stay tuned.

This is a branch after topping, but a branch from the previous node took over dominance. I’m hesitating to cut it away as I consider it to be main, but it’s relatively thin. It only has one node and as you can also see all the other colas around are bigger. Should I lollipop it?

Hey Buddy you’re thinking about the right things, which already tells me you’re reading the plant well. From what you describe (and what’s visible), that branch: • Is still in usable light • Has already broken apical dominance once • Is thin now, but not shaded or stalled • Is competing, but not choking the canopy That puts it in a gray zone, not an automatic lollipop candidate. How I personally decide in cases like this I only remove a branch if two or more of these are true: • It’s clearly shaded and won’t catch up • It has weak internodes and no space to expand • It’s below the productive canopy and stealing energy • It’s producing popcorn-only sites If it’s still seeing light and has room to breathe, I usually let the plant finish making that decision for me. Important nuance Thin ≠ useless. Some branches that look “behind” early will still: • Stack later in flower • Add real weight • Or at least justify the energy they cost Especially since it already asserted dominance once, it’s clearly hormonally active. What I’d do instead of cutting • Let it ride another week or so • Watch internode spacing and bud development • If it clearly stalls later → then I’d clean it up Once you cut, there’s no undo button — but waiting costs very little here. Growers Love my friend , keep us posted and remember this is just my humble opinion please to trust his instinct 👊🙌🙏

I have some slightly erected teeth at my fingers. It started to form when I stopped raising the light to stop the stretch. I’ve now pulled it up a bit again to be above 40cm distance. I had similar on my last grow which seemed alright so maybe nothing to be worried about.

It can cause issues but more often than not I've had great results even when this happens. If you start losing leaves and ending up with necrosis then I would be concerned. But if everything else is happy and healthy which it looks like, then I wouldnt be overly concerned

ohcibi Approaching the finish line. Fertilizer is now at its final dose. Both plants stopped growing now and started to build thick buds. Ken in fact is way ahead in terms of buds but it might be because he Hase a little bit less in number. It’s possible that I trained Ryu too much for his pot size 😆😆. But let’s see. Both looking very good and a lot more powerful than in my first grow. Water intake is still massive. The top soil is rock solid while draining water super fast which must mean the pots are filled with massive roots. The erected teeth came down a bit but they were never that severe in the first place so I’m still not worried about that. I skipped one day of watering to account for possible slight overfeeding but I mean, today’s watering then was with the increased dose of fert 😆😆. I know I’m pushing it a little bit but that’s deliberate. I have high demands both in mass and quality so my approach is riding the edge as good as possible from the beginning 😆

ohcibi 10. week. Hopefully less than 4 to go. Grow continues to run smoothly as before. The only point that is stressful is the humidity some times but mostly only after watering and since I’m watching them plants every 2 hours anyway the build isn’t that large. I just needed to understand that these plants will increase their transpiration towards midday and then decline again. So when I see 60% at lunch I don’t have to panic as much. Ryu started to smell strongly when touching him but the smell when opening the tent is still moderate. However I’m looking forward to a very nice and efficient harvest.

My fert comes with an additive called „Vegan Phosphor boost“. The instructions tell to spill it over the soil. However it never dissolves within the time frame they tell to add it. Does anyone using this stuff know how to use it right?

Trichomaanswered grow question 1d ago
I’m familiar with the amendment in general and the brand’s product. The reason it doesn’t fully dissolve is simply because the particles aren’t fine enough to break down completely in the substrate. I don’t see this as an issue, though larger chunks will dissolve more slowly and act as a timed release. I recommend mixing it first with a small amount of soil, breaking up or even grinding it the material as much as possible, and blending everything thoroughly before applying it as a top dress. If you plan to reuse the soil, it shouldn’t be a problem either. The nutrient balance may not be perfectly dialed in, but that’s difficult to achieve without soil testing anyway. I don’t expect any issues even after multiple runs. Last but not least, small tip there are better sources of phosphorus. Raw forms like this can sometimes carry unwanted elements, including heavy metals.

Boosters are useful but grossly oversold. At some point during flower the plant will demand extremely high ratios of P and K. Regardless of what or how you feed the salinity of any medium can only hold so much fertilizer salts. Roughly EC of 1.8ms/cm for soil. So imagine for the sake of simplicity you have space for 1800 salt ions. Fertilizer companies cannot sell N P or K in elemental form. They sell "ratios" 98% of nutrient uptake comes from water solution. When you feed synthetic you need to water every time with a balanced and full complete collection of the optimal ratio of salts thay best suited the precise stage of growth. No point having 800 nitrogen salt ions 7 weeks into flower...... that's going to skew the balanced ratio. A plant needs a little bit of everything, boosters are sold are a magic. "Boost" when in reality its just a high ratio of P and K for example in a "bloom booster" It is well-established in plant biology that the availability and abundance of nutrients directly shape plant phytohormone balance, which in turn dictates growth, architectural development, and genetic responses. Plants use these hormones as intermediates to translate external nutrient signals into developmental actions. Ratio, ratio, ratio Use it, just know its pretty much snake oil. You want a pk boost, add more p and k to your feed when required.

After a day of defoliation and lollipopping the plants now seem ready for the very final phase. Despite being one week younger and ten centimeters shorter, Ken took over Ryu flowering wise. His buds are larger, his stigmas are longer and also the first stigmas getting color on him. I guess in about 4 weeks I’m done. 🤞
ohcibi
ohcibi commentedweek 716d ago
Ryu crushed 50 centimeters of height during this night. So he’s at 100% height gain since flipping and that includes the lateral stretch as well so the total branch length gain is much higher. I’m super happy with this strain growing wise. Let’s hope it tastes well. Starting to get the first serious smell from them.

ohcibi commentedweek 719d ago
So today I changed the watering can from a 3l for both to a 5l for both plants. So 2.5l per plant per watering, 1l more than before. I did that because yesterday in the morning the soil was almost as dry as it should have been only today in the morning so clearly them plants upped their intake like a lot. At least the soil confirmed so far as I had no run off. Now watching whether they stay moist for like 1.5 days as they did before but with the new amount. I’m not to worried. So far this strain tanked everything I threw at it without any issues. Ken being one week ahead of fertilizer schedule table while catching up growth with Ryu like a big boy. They now roughly take half of the scrog net each. Ken sits a bit higher, hence he’s shorter but their roofs are same height. So I guess I’m in for a massive harvest for a second timer if nothing goes wrong. 🤞

ohcibi commentedweek 721d ago
Leaves and branches growing stronger and stronger. There’s some due final net adjustments but apart from those everything not yet above the scrog prolly never grows higher or is already in place. Every cola is in direct light and every day I pull up my light one or four ticks higher without the distance getting bigger.

Stretch is kicking in undeniably now. Ken also starts to cover his whole area but I'm a bit worried. I think without reason though. Ken is still the younger plant and was topped more recently. I think I’m just still missing experience to see properly when plants need recover from things like topping and not confuse it with something worse.

Topped last side branch from Ryu. He’ll be in recovery from now on. Ken got 2 of his lower sides topped to get his other 2 sides topped later or tomorrow. Ima rush him a bit. Both are way ahead their time so they basically tank everything at this point. Also re attached all the training wires I had taken off for Christmas. Turned out to be a good choice given the amount they grew.
