Don_Solo Hello, welcome. Thanks for checking in! I'm going to give this grow journal a try. We'll see if I keep up with it. I've been growing off and on for a long time, about 20 years. Started with soil, and switched to DWC about 10 years ago. But I haven't done a TON of grows. A good 2-plant harvest will last me a long time. So, I'll do a couple grows with a couple different strains, then not grow for a year or more until I need to replenish my stash. This will be the fourth grow with my current set up. I grow in a mostly unfinished basement, in the upper Midwest. My grow room is framed out (no sheetrock) and has a wood subfloor. It's not heated or cooled. My environment isn't perfect. I'm not trying to regulate heat and humidity beyond what my exhaust fan is capable of. It is what it is and that's been good enough for me. As the specs at the top indicate, I bought into AC Infinity a few years ago. It's great stuff and has held up over the years. 4x4 tent, basic LED light with the Ironbeams as supplemental light, mounted on CFM bars. My method is RDWC. I'm running 2 pots with a reservoir outside of the tent. It's a custom build modeled after PA Hydroponic's "Fallponic" method. I'm using 7 gal Current Culture buckets for both pots and the reservoir. And, I'm using tap water, no chiller, bene's instead of sterile. For this grow, I chose Atlas Seed because I had a pretty good grow with their Super Sour Runtz recently, and chose Unicorn Glitter mainly because it's Indica dominant (I still have a lot of the all Sativa SSRuntz) but also because that's a dope name. As I was typing, I almost typed 'dumb' instead of dope. Either way, I guess, but I like it. The 3 pack of seeds I bought came with 5 seeds, so that's cool. They're feminized, regular photoperiod. I only want two but just decided to pop them all and let the strongest two show themselves. This will be my first grow using CropSalt. Up to this point, for hydro, I've only used General Hydroponics' Flora Series, along with some other additives. I have nothing bad to say about that, I just wanted to try something new and I've heard/read good things about CropSalt. I was basically out of the GH stuff, so this was a good time to make the switch. I'm using Root Riot cubes for the seedlings, soaked in a weak veg nutrient solution. The tray is on a heat mat and I have a T5 fluorescent light above (mix of cool and warm bulbs). I'm maintaining 90-92° F in the dome with vents closed. Usually I do the paper towel method to germinate, but always hated transferring that fragile root in to the cube. This time I decide to just stick the seed into the cube. After reading quite a bit of conflicting opinions and personal experiences from various forums and subreddits, I deduced that pointy end up was the way to go. Seemed to work. I had four seedlings in less than 72 hours, and all of them properly shucked their husk. I'm typing this on 1/26 and there's still no sign of life for the fifth bean. If you made it this far, thanks for reading. Future updates will definitely not be so wordy. I'm going to have to keep this simple if I'm going to keep up with it. Peace.

Don_Solo So, Sundays have traditionally been my start day when counting weeks and Sunday nights is when I do res changes. For this diary, I'm thinking Mondays will be my start day for the new week, but will be mostly focused on what work went in the previous weekend. Why I am I typing this out? I have no idea. All this is just for my reference, anyway. I loaded a new photo from Saturday night to start this week's entry. I know, complete anarchy. I'll try to remember to grab one tonight. Spoiler alert.... they've grown. On Saturday, I mixed up a new, stronger nutrient solution for the seedlings. It's about 3/4 strength, which is the second line on the bag's feed chart. Also, Sat morning I removed the humidity dome completely and just kept an eye on them throughout the day. Didn't seem to phase them in the least. Last night I went to see Atmosphere at First Ave, so no work in the garden. Not that there's much to do right now, just waiting for these seedlings to grow a bit more before I put them in the RDWC system. About two weeks ago, I cleaned out the RDWC system from the last grow. I rinsed everything down and drained the system. Vacuumed the tent, wiped down the walls. I then filled the system with water, added Run Clean at 4 ml/gal, and bleach at 1/3c / 2gal. I let that run for 24hrs, drained it and refilled with plain water with 2ml/gal Run Clean. I let that run for another 24hrs, then I drained and used a shop vac to suck ALL the water out of the lines, PVC tubing, and buckets. Then I let it sit and dry out. I'm not sure when I'm putting my new seedlings in the system, but, I need to have it ready when I decide it's time. I've filled the system with 16 gal of water, with 2ml/gal Run Clean and 0.2 ml/gal bleach. Set up an aquarium heater in the reservoir. With the heater on, res water temp ranges from 64° to 68°. Without it, the room/water temp is around 55°. I'll add nutrients to it in the next couple days. Normally, when the plants are established in the system, I run 15 gal of solution. That gives me a 1.25" air gap between the bottom of the net and the water. With new starts, the water level needs to be a little higher to insure the clay rocks are getting saturated with solution. 16 gal puts the air gap at ~.5" That's all for this update. Thanks for reading. Thursday, 2.5.26 Update. On Tuesday I added full strength nutes to the water circulating in the system. And 10ml Orca for beneficial bacteria. CropSalt recommends using their RunClean product to prevent scale build up. And, it can be used as a pH down when mixing up a new solution. When I was using GH Flora, typically I'd need to use about 60ml of pH Down to hit 6.0 after adding nutes. With the RunClean, I started with 25ml, to see how the solution reacted. It moved the needle, but not a ton. Went from 7.22 to 6.83. So I thought it was safe to go full send and added 35ml more. Big mistake. It dropped to 3.46. I WAY over shot it. Added 10ml pH Up a couple times over the next 30 min to get it to 5.26. I'm used to seeing pH rise just a bit over time, so, I let it sit for a couple days. Thursday evening I selected the two strongest looking seedlings and planted them in the RDWC system. The solution pH had leveled out to 5.8. Water temp is 64° with the aid of an aquarium heater in the reservoir. Air temp in the lung room is around 55° day and night this time of year. RH is 46.9%. In the the tent, with the light on level 4 (250ppfd for these little guys), I'm sitting at 64.1°, 43.8% humidity, and VPD is 1.14kPa. Exhaust fan at level 2. I just now upped the exhaust to 4, might help to bring that VPD down a bit. Lights on an 18/6 schedule. They'll 'sleep' during the afternoon, from 1pm to 7pm. Thanks for reading.

RDWC Growers, I have a question. Do you run bene's or sterile? I've always done bene's because I've read that's what's best when dealing with high water temps. I don't have water temp issues any longer and I'm thinking of switching to sterile, using bleach. Opinions?

Viel Erfolg beim grow 🤞🏽👊👍

This site is maddening. It's so close to being really great, but seems to fall short in crucial areas. I posted a grow question. It's really cool that you can do that and it shows up right there in your journal. Neat. And, I got some great responses, so thanks a ton if you are one who commented. But I don't see a way that I can reply to the question, or to the commenters. There's no opportunity for a continued discussion. Kinda frustrating. I'll keep the question open for a while. The site wants me to select one of the responses as "the answer" to my question. I literally asked for opinions, so selecting one as the correct answer feels weird. But the guy that said use to whatever is easy/cheap went on to make some more good points about getting the most out of these plants. And in one response, buried in a block of text with limited use of punctuation or the spacebar, they said something like, 'you've got the orca, you'd be better off using it.' And, I gotta agree with that. I'm going to stick with bene's for this grow.

I just added a new photo and updated the nutrient info. This site doesn't recognize CropSalt, yet. As you may have guessed, it's a dry nutrient. The nutrient values I put in are actually grams per gallon, but g/gal is not an option on this site. Whatever. I've turned down the heat mat to medium-low and opened the humidity dome vents tonight. Gonna ease them into the cold cruel real world conditions. I'll start W1 in this journal this weekend.
