Danylo Say what you will about the indica vs sativa stuff but when selecting seeds I tend to go for the chunkier ones hoping for a more indica-leaning pheno! (Yes, very scientific! 😛) I have read about larger seeds needing a little more time to germinate, which makes sense - because the larger the seed, the larger the distance from outside to center of the seed. They were all on the chunky side, but I took the biggest of them and despite the size/germination-time relation this one (along with the Slush Mint Cake) smashed my previous "first water contact to poking through the soil" - record by almost ten hours. 64 hours is all it took, crazy. I think it's at least partially due to the relatively warm 23.5-24°C (~75°F) temp they got during this time. Method stayed the same : Soak for about 24 hours in 1% H202 solution and then directly into low nutrient soil. Compared to the other two the Chemdog isn't really taller but already has a headstart regarding leaf surface. Big juicy leafs (for a one week plant..) we'll see where she takes us!

Danylo OK, so we had the first 5-pronged leafs which means we're officially in VEG! Quite a lot happened in the last six days .. she grew, she rooted through her little 0.5L pot - got transferred to a 3.5L and then she got her first haircut. Root development was right on the cusp of being too-far advanced for her little pot so we were right on time. Gave her a day to acclimatize after getting repotted and then removed most of her fan leafs. Out of the three she has the most bushy structure so this defoliation is vital for her lateral branches to get some direct light. (Marked the pictures for easier temporal placing this time : lower number = younger plant)

Danylo Like with the others, these pics are 8 days after the last ones. Not quite a week but close enough! 😜 Out of the three for this run, the Chemdog is (atm) the largest with the biggest internodal spacing. Even despite getting about 600ish PPFD. She appears kind of stemmy right now and I hope the flower stretch doesn't fuck me over completely, but at least her stems are nice and sturdy! She is VERY vigorous and when removing leafs she already gives off a nice spicy/earthy aroma! 😍 As I chose this strain strictly for the bouquet I'm already a little giddy! In the coming week we're gonna transplant her into the final 20L pot, but right now there are not a lot of roots poking out the bottom holes. I'm a chronic too-late-transplanter though so I'm ready to be proven wrong in the next few days!

Danylo The Chemdog girl was (due to her vigour) the first plant I transplanted into the final 20L (~5gallon) pot. Rootwise, she was already a little too advanced for my taste - at this point I always wonder if it would be beneficial to break up the root bundle a little? (like many people do) She was meant to be a filler plant in the large tent. But right now she is the biggest of the three?! So... she either becomes the main actor for this run or gets cut back a little - haven't decided yet. 😣 Either way.. next week: Topping + recovery + switching to 1212 😁

Danylo So this was Week4Veg for this super vigorous chemdog girl! She was (and is..) always a little taller than the other two, so I topped her first. After that she got a big cleanup at the same time as the rest of the tent. She really didn't mind either and just kept growing. Fast. 🤷 Her structure at this time was just about the shape I am going for : Candelabra shaped with mostly even canopy.

Danylo This is the week where we do all preparations for flower including reducing hours step-by-step to 12/12. (in fact, tomorrow is that 1212 day!) The major thing this week is doing the first big cleanup where I remove a lot of branches and bigger leafs, to give every intended flowering stem/branch the space and light to develop into non-larf. There always is the second cleanup (after flowering stretch is through) where I finalize structure, spacing etc. but this one is probably even more important. At this point she is already a little taller than I'd like and flower stretch can fuck us over somewhat. I intentionally left a little more on the plant than I'd like because I may have to re-top her to make sure all plants get the light they need. While I was cutting I couldn't get over the fact that she (at the moment) smells like fresh, raw Padron Peppers. Super green-paprikaey earthy spicy like. I'm gonna look for a picture to upload so you know what I mean. I almost shoved some leafs in my mouth because it smelled so amazing!

Danylo Didn't take a lot of pics this week. Sorry! Also didn't have to do a lot of work on her this week - these two facts might be intertwined hmm.. 💩 This is her first week of mostly 1212 light. She is doing well, still a good chunk ahead of the other two.. height wise and lets call it stem-mass-wise ;) just.. you know.. the result of a little more vigour over a long-ish time. Smell didn't change from last week - still very earthy/spicy/greenpeppery ❤️ She appears to be the furthest into flower of the three too!

Danylo [Disclaimer:] Two of the pictures are not seven days, but eight days after the last post. So a little more than one regular week. The ones I took on-time were out of focus 8( She is transitioning into flower FAST. Furthest of the three in the tent. She is also stretching FAST 😞 There is visible chlorosis on the upper third/half of the plant. Don't really know where this is coming from.. will keep an eye on it! She can't be that hungry can she ? Stems aren't too thick and stretching fast - maybe one foliar feed ? But I usually don't do that in flower 🤷 Smell is still super fucking delicious! I can barely wait to see where the first trichome-rub takes us! 😋

Danylo Sooo .. the Greenhouse Chemdog, like the other two, is almost finished with flower transition. She is the tallest plant in the tent! Right at the boundary where I would have cut something off to make the next 8 weeks less MacGyvery. There are ~10 cm room to pull up the light even more so with some wiggleroom for budgrowth we should still be in the clear! She has suffered from interveinal chlorosis for the last two weeks. I think this is partly due to the massive amounts of budsites she sprouted and the resulting high-af nutrient needs. At the moment there is no necrosis on the leafs (yet) so we can still recover! Like with the other two I finally did the last big cleanup where I remove fan-leafs and (more importantly) future larfy budsites/branches. I cut off a LOT of branches which were already sprouting flowers. In retrospect I should have done this earlier, especially considering the total amount of budsites and the already existing chlorosis. My bad... in the future I'll hopefully remember 😒 Smell was still awesomely green-peppery while doing the snippy snappy, but honestly I'm waiting for some trichomes! 😝

Danylo Sorry for not keeping up to date with the Chemdog but honestly.. at the moment she really isn't a very fun plant to grow/write about. Disclaimer: I'm not the most experienced grower, so if a plant underperforms it is very likely because: 1) I fucked up something I didn't know/anticipate. 2) Just plain old bad luck on a seed/pheno. I only popped one of the three, so the other two might be absolutely awesome but lay dormant im my fridge. Why she is not a lot of fun at the moment: - She looks sickly despite environment variables being at least good enough (I think). Which would be ok, but : - She lost a most of the super cool peppery aroma replaced it with: Nothing. I bought this strain for aroma only and right now she doesn't really smell like anything. Again: this may be my fault 100%.. but that doesnt really change the fun-equation. I plan on finishing the diary so who knows ? Maybe she finishes strong and becomes one of my favourites? I'm certainly hoping!

(On the leafs that previously "only" suffered from chlorosis)😐 Smell unchanged.😐 There are way more bud sites/material on her than on an average plant though 😶
