She smells very strong and I think she is close to maturity. She has had no nutes only PH water.

Grow Questions

DBpF4nZAstarted grow question 5 years ago
Hi everyone hope you are doing well. Should I just trim some of the fan leaves so the nodes can get proper light or should I leave the leaves as is? I have noticed that I am working a bit rough with her and wondered if it would be kinder to just remove some of the extra foliage.

@DBpF4nZA hi there mate, yes you can remove some fan leaves as it will let more light in but will also let more air flow in and around those buds. This is especially important to reduce the risk of botrytis (bud rot) forming> Happy grows

I accidentally topped her 😯😲😧😬 I knew I should have used some string and made a hole in the side of the container when the top shoot started growing near the edge. I should have listened to my intuition. But at least I learned where the boundaries is and that I should take it alot easier on her. I think my problem is that I am a bit inexperienced with training and should take it slower and gentler. I wil be more patient. I also trimmed some fan leaves that were technically touching and laying on the ground. I will now leave her for a day or two before resuming any more training.

@Northern_Ent, Thanks! I had a suspicion I was maybe overdoing it a bit. I will definitely try to ease up with training. 🙂

@DBpF4nZA, the sun is so bright and moves throughout the day so I’m not convinced that much training is needed when growing outdoor. Super important indoors I suppose, but likely not needed outdoor. Two cents. Thanks for the likes on the Pineapple Chunk. I’m super excited for it. 🍍

What dirt are you using? I want to figure out why she is so small. For some reason your week seven looks like my week 2 or 3. I’m in a 2 gallon pot. The final big bud looks beautiful though.

@@HiddenColorado, It was a mix of perlite, coco and vermicompost. If I remember correctly I mixed a 1/3 Coco and Vermicompost and Added about 20% perlite to that mix.

@DBpF4nZA hi mate yes do some pruning see above answer to your question for more details 👆

@DILLIGAF, Thanks for the advice. I did trim all the fan leaves that touched the growing medium thinking it will be better removing them. It makes sense to allow more airflow to combat rot and diseases that can form from high humidity and contaminants on the surface of the growing medium. I accidentally topped her as well. So hopefully she recovers well. Thanks for the reply and advice it is much appreciated.

Okay, so I am moving each new shoot away to catch some extra sun rays and moving the tips of the shoots downward so she can't send auxins to nodes below to encourage growth. As each new shoot grows longer I try and spread them evenly away from each other. I am starting to wonder if I should just trim some of the fan leaves as they are in the way of some of the new nodes getting proper light exposure. Not sure if this is good practice. If anyone has a opinion on this please share. 😀

Trying LST training. Basically trying with my gut feeling and looking what my previous training did to the plant. I still not sure if I am overdoing it. Tops are getting lighter and yellow so I assume I will see her flower soon.

So I have no experience with LST. I know that auxins are concentrated in the tip of the plant and that it will concentrate the growth there. And by lowering the growing tip the plant will send auxins to other nodes. I can see with experimenting by lowering the growth tip and allowing more light on the nodes that there is growth sprouting and starting to grow upwards. I am just concerned if I am overdoing it at the moment.

One last feeding for the week.

After the flushing of nutrient in the proper PH range and adding some calcium and magnesium, the plant seems to be doing better. The color is looking good the weird almost shocking yellow color on and near the veins is starting to turn green and the leaf growth seems to grow faster now.

I measured the PH of the runoff nutrient and it was in the range of 7. I then measured the PH of my nutrient and noticed it was near 7 as well. Adjusted ph to around 6.5 and watered plant with nutrient until it started draining at the bottom of the container.

Added some extra calcium and magnesium. Increased the feed strength. Used a wire loop to bend the plant to expose the new nodes to more sunlight.

I think starting the grow in winter is severely stunting the progress the plant should be making. But I will push through and see what happens.
