?I planted these seeds a bit deeper than usual. Maybe 1/2 in deep instead of a quarter because I read that too shallow is why the husk of the seed sometimes ends up stuck on the leaves. So far, 3 of 4 have broken ground, none with husks. Do people pay attention to the orientation

You're spot on about the depth helping with the husks! To add to that, soaking the seeds first (a simple mix of water and humate works great for this) really helps soften that tough outer shell before it even hits the dirt. As for orientation, laying them sideways is definitely the way to go. Seeds rely on gravity—a process called gravitropism—to know which way is up. When you plant them horizontally, the taproot naturally curves downward to anchor itself. That curve creates a tiny 'lever' effect that helps pry the softened husk off as the seedling pushes up to the surface. Most importantly, it completely stops them from doing that annoying backflip where they get stuck upside down and force you to do a mini-excavation with a pin to save them!

I also planted white clover as a cover crop/mulch which you can see just sprouting if you zoom in. Any ideas about why this might be beneficial, particularly in an autopot situation?

That's a cool living mulch setup! Using white clover in an Autopot has some neat perks. Basically, clover is a nitrogen fixer—it grabs nitrogen from the air and stores it in its roots, which can help feed your plant naturally. In an Autopot system, it also acts like a natural "blanket" for the top layer of soil. Since Autopots water from the bottom, the top can sometimes get dry or build up salt. The clover keeps that top layer moist and full of microbial life. Just keep an eye on it so it doesn't get *too* thick and compete for space, but overall, it’s a great way to maintain a healthy ecosystem in your pot. Happy Growing Growmie 🌱

Nice touch, I can see the little clover popping up 👍 It can actually help quite a bit, even in an autopot. It keeps the top layer from drying out too fast, which is useful since the moisture mostly comes from below. Over time it also helps the soil stay loose and alive, and the roots + microbes do their thing. Clover can also bring in a bit of nitrogen, but more importantly it just supports a healthier soil ecosystem overall.

Well, you planted her as a cover crop/mulch. Would say possible benefit could be as cover crop/mulch. Probably no difference if it is an autopot, fabric, plastic, clay, paper... Perhaps don't plant corn next time, no idea of possible benefits. 😅 Take care.. and perhaps also about your cannabis plant and not clover😅

DaddyKeith Out of town for 12 days, so picked up a 32 gallon brute garbage can as the water reservoir with 0.1ml/gallon grow genius monosilisic acid added. I put about 28 gallons in it because I was worried it might run out. Claude said I’d be fine with 20 gallons, but chat gpt thought that plants in week 4-5 of flower can drink 1-2 gallons a day in an autopot setting. I also put a 20 gallon catch reservoir on my ac infinity hydrone 5 dehu. Scrog is pretty filled out at this point.

DaddyKeith Just entering week 7 of flower of a 9-11 week strain. A little concerned because both plants, but especially the one on the right is starting to fade to light green. Not sure if this is nutrient deficiency given the super soil used or just the beginning of the fade. But buds continue to develop and stack. Lots of white pistils and a few browning

In reality, too late to fix anything now. And yes, while cover crops may be ok outdoors in the ground, when growing in pots they tend to rob the soil. A half dose of "grow" type fertilizer may prevent things from getting too much worse, but results can take up to 2 weeks to show in the leaves, so don't think nothing happened after 3 days and feel tempted to give them more "grow".

A fade and deficiency are the same thing... If you want a fade, just make sure it doesn't detoriate faster than the time it takes to finish... you can always add more fertilizer too... it will not hurt anything. It won't change the flavor of your buds in any perceivable way in any common sense context of a relatively healthy plant in a good environment. Looks very minimal in this picture, so just ensure it doesn't progress too fast.. adjust fertilization for a slower fade as necessary. If it's trending that direction, no matter how slowly it goes, you know you aren't over-feeding for sure. some less than ideal health can be related to senescence, but that is really minimal.. more like and old person with wrinkled skinned vs a young person with smooth skin, but the skin is still functional and 'mostly' the same despite it's lack of elasticity. it's not shedding like dead leaves, lol. I'm not worried about winning beauty paegents the last couple weeks, but i'm not letting any major symptoms progress either... if the existing damage is holding steady or very slow progression, that's fine, too. A healthy plant will show minimal issues related to senescence barring a genetic anomaly - e.g some people age better than others, right? Senescence is never the cause of an absolute dumpster fire of a canopy, but some people just don't want to take responsibility for their own mistakes, lol. I've seen plenty of plants finish with little to no visible symptoms, too, and not overfed, dark and glossy, either. As with many things, it's about a happy zone inbetween, not min/max strategy.

If you remove these large weed plants out of your clover pots, they will have more nutrition.👻
