love_2_grow Alright, I guess itโ€™s high time to start this diary. Itโ€™s week three of flower after all... I know I can be a lazy stoner at times, but I think this sets a new record for me. Ten weeks before I get my ass in gear and start the diary. Iโ€™ll mostly add pictures for the next few weeks, with an odd note here and there, and then hopefully start keeping the diary properly for the remaining weeks. Iโ€™m growing two different cultivars this round โ€“ one Plumz from Grounded Genetics and two Cap Junky from Seed Junky & Capsulator. All clones. This is the Cap Junky diary. โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“ Can Junky by Seed Junky & Capsulator Genetics: Alien Cookies x Kush Mints #11 Flowering Time: 9 to 12 weeks Cap Junky is an extremely potent, pungent cannabis strain. The cultivar is a collaborative project between two of the most important modern breeders, Capulator and Seed Junky Genetics. Cap Junky smells like sour fruit rind with hints of pepper, gas, and dank. Well-grown buds are sleeted with maximal trichome coverage. Its smoke tastes astringent, peppery, and hits very smooth. This maximum-THC cultivar is for experienced smokers only, with an intense, long-lasting euphoric effect. โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“ A friend of mine (thx @GrowingFlavour), sent me a couple of clones, and the plan is to wash one, while the other gets a traditional dry. I started the grow by transplanting the clones into 1-liter pots filled with my own soil recipe.

love_2_grow This week, it was time to transplant the girls from their small 1-liter pots into the 50-liter AutoPots XXL, filled with my own living soil. I had already prepared the pots by planting a cover crop a couple of weeks ago, consisting of mung beans, lentils, alfalfa, barley, and a couple of others that I canโ€™t recall right now. No clover, though, as spidermites are attracted to clover. I started by chopping and dropping the cover crop, then placing an empty 1-liter pot in preparation for the plant. I used my usual mycorrhiza inoculant during the transplant, dusting the roots with it, but I also added some Dynomico at the bottom of the hole simply because I had some lying around.

love_2_grow I installed a scrog net this week. Having three plants in a square tent isnโ€™t ideal for a full canopy, but unfortunately, I canโ€™t fit a fourth AutoPot XXL in the tent, so Iโ€™ll use a scrog to try to fill up the canopy instead. I made the frame using 3D-printed corners and aluminium pipes, then attached a net to it.

love_2_grow This week, I made a sprouted seed tea by germinating barley, corn, and alfalfa. I blitzed the sprouts with some fulvic acid and kelp meal, then fed the girls. This was also the final week of veg, so I decided to shave the girls' legs, cleaning them up below the scrog. I kept a bunch of cuts and threw them into my tiny aerocloner tent.

love_2_grow Woooo! I kicked off the first week of the flower by mixing together and applying a topdress consisting of worm castings, biochar, insect frass, kelp meal, neem meal, alfalfa meal, mustard meal, soft rock phosphate, malted barley, palm ash, basalt, rock dust, gypsum, and leonardite. I also added yellow sticky traps to see if there are any bugs around, since I havenโ€™t even seen a single fungus gnat during the entire grow.

love_2_grow The only thing that happened this week was that I added under-canopy lighting. I don't expect much as it's a cheap light with only 24W (four LED strips x 6W), but since it was just lying around, I figured I might as well use it.

love_2_grow The goal this week was to bring down the humidity. The buds are slowly fattening up, and the humidity was in the 70s - a recipe for disaster. Normally, I'm careful with defoliation, unless for air circulation. However, some defoliation was necessary to reduce transpiration rate, so I cleaned up the canopy somewhat. I also added yet another fan in the tent, so now there are five fans in total. Seven, if you count the exhaust fan and the fan in the humidifier as well. Now there's a literal hurricane in the tent :D Finally, I realized there was just enough space in the tent to fit the humidifier, and once installed, the humidity dropped down to the low-mid 50s. YAY! Sure, having the humidifier in the tent increases the temps, but spring is still cool here, so it's fine for now. Besides, I would much rather deal with high temperatures than high humidity. I forgot to mention last week that I added predatory mites as preventative IPM - Amblyseius cucumeris and Amblyseius californicus. I haven't had any problems with pests (I haven't even seen a single fungus gnat during the entire grow!), but I wanted to ensure no nasty surprises in late flower.

love_2_grow Another week has come and gone. My efforts to lower the RH have paid off, so now the humidity in the tent is in the low 50s. Didn't do anything this week besides filling the reservoir with water and emptying the humidifier when necessary. That was it. Late flower is simply waiting time to harvest.

love_2_grow We're getting close, and the buds have fattened up to the point they are falling over. I was considering a second scrog net, but never got around to it. Now I wish I had, and I would definitely add one if I grow Cap Junkie again. I haven't had a proper look at the trichomes yet, but I reckon they are getting close. Another week, maybe two, but not longer, I think. We'll see

love_2_grow The buds are falling over like drunken sailors. This is a cultivar that REALLY needs a second scrog, but since I was lazy and never installed one, I now have to deal with it. Fortunately, I had some plant yoyos, so I could support the largest buds at least.

love_2_grow The girls are getting pretty as the senescence progresses, but the trichomes are still stubborn, not showing much amber. 12 weeks of flower. So far... Sigh. The AC Infinity app is acting up on my phone. It crashes as soon as I try to view any data. Therefore, no week summary.

@Stony_German Yeah, you are right. The humidity is a real concern. Especially in these last few weeks, as the buds are fattening up. Since the latest diary update, I have defoliated a bit to reduce the transpiration, added a dehumidifier, and added yet another fan (there are now five fans in the tent, well, seven if you count the fan in the humidifier and the exhaust fan as well). The average RH is now around 55%, which is a lot better than previously.

How do you like the auto pot system? You're using it with felt, I notice. Can you recommend that?
love_2_grow
love_2_grow commented2mo ago
The AutoPot XXL only comes with fabric pots, so it's the only choice if you want larger soil volumes. That said, I pimped my pots with a plastic band on the inside (the bottom and top 5-10 cm are without the plastic). That way, you get air into the root system's bottom, without drying out the sides. I do this with all my fabric pots, AutoPots or not. In your case, you might want to get a Tray2Grow instead of XXL. If you are going with soil, that is. In my small tent, I have a regular AutoPot, but with such a small volume, you need to feed nutrients โ€“ either synthetic salts or dry organic amendments, such as BioTabs.

Hey, that frost is real dude. It could be ready or close to it. Not all plants show amber trichomes the same. Considering it just went through a nice senescence phase this week, I'd say to keep it going another week or two, though. Also how tf you been? Haven't seen you in messages in forevs.
