ElCapitol Fresh tray of root riots, you can see some are slightly dried by the colour difference so I'll place them into boiled/cooled water and give them a squeeze to get some moisture back in.
Once they're all the same colour I'll pop my pips in using a marked depth chopstick. I aim for about a third to half the depth of the root riots cube. I placed the tray into a heated propagator, I also put a few mm of water into the prop tray as they dry out real fast. This extra humidity helps keep the root riots from drying out.
For the first two days I leave it in total darkness. Once the first pip is up I switch the lights on at 50% on a 20/4 on off cycle.
I got four up from five sown, happy with that. I don't mess with paper tissue and scuffing seeds. They spend a minimum of two weeks refrigerated then they get placed straight into a root riots. I regularly get 90%+ germ rates with this method so I'm not changing it.

ElCapitol Really strong looking seedlings, I've been looking forward to this strain in particular. I tried a fair few AK47 over the last decade and they all kinda fell a little short. So fingers crossed BF have nailed it here. No issues in the first week, all look healthy.

ElCapitol I think the ones on the left are getting slight less light, I'll move them round this week see if I can even them up. Leaves and growth style look very uniform. I'd expect that from such a classic strain though. Should be stable, I've been growing AK47 for decades:) Let's see what Barney's Farm AK-47 looks like :)
Really looking forward to this as the claimed strength is higher than anything I've previously seen.

ElCapitol Fitted the grow room with a hose this time round and the access to easy water has led to serious over watering. I've realised now and cut watering right back and increased temps to 25c and lowered humidity. They're curling down and yellowing, classic over watering signs. Kicking myself I didn't catch it sooner. I'm going to foliar feed a very weak mix just to get some N into them as the roots aren't taking it in. Little worried about pythium but no signs yet....
The plants less effected by too much water are racing ahead, each leaf set has an extra set of leaves which is always a good sign. I've also reset lights to 18/6 to give them a little more rest at night to recover from my stupidity. Feed is almost zero due to letting the footballs dry out thoroughly.
Not sure if it's phenotype or over watering but I've two distinct types here. We'll see how they even out during flowering. They've responded really well to less water and more dark time. More open structured than the Zillions and a little taller.

ElCapitol Still recovering from the overwatering. Starting to show a little more N uptake resulting in greener tops. It's resulted in uneven growth which is slightly annoying and a lesson learned. My first grows on the site and I've made a rookie mistake. I'm going to get them stabilised before flowering, I'll cut the biggest one back and pinch it a little to hold it back. Get some uniform growth going. They'll get a little calmag this week along with a foliar feed at lights out.

ElCapitol Seeing a bit of recovery now after the overwatering. Given a Canna Calmag drench along with Canna terra vega foliar feed. Roots are not in a good way so we'll let them dry out and feed via leaves. So far they're going ok. Topped to encourage side growth, another week or so training and maybe another height chop and we'll go to flower once I feel the roots are performing again. I've raised the lights and turned them down to 50% as well just to let the plants recover and put out some nice white roots on.

ElCapitol No real update as I was away for two weeks. Feed was half strength with a dose of calmag to help get over the overwatering damage.

ElCapitol So it's a few days after 2 weeks of 12/12 and they're looking so much better now. Little calmag does a lot of good for overwatered plants. Testament to the genetics that despite my abuse they're coming along well. I hacked them back quite hard at switchover as I like a short plant with as little stretch as possible. It does cost me a little yield but I find this way gives me tighter compact nugs with less fluff along an extended plant. Saves me a LOT of time when trimming too.
They're on Canna terra flores now and a little calmag still. They're not asking for anything else so I'm not giving them anything else. Keeping it simple for now.
Little sugar showing so I had a little rub and sniff, absolutely the AK47 smell I remember going a LONG time ago. The plant structure looks good, no massive internodal spacing which bodes well for nice dense nugs.
Fresh diary, fresh energy 👊
Always nice to see a new run kicking off 😎
Wishing you lots of success and, above all, fun with beautiful, healthy plants 🌱✌️💚
