Germination

cheeseburger_walrus Soil - Base FF OF + Buffered Coco mix (~60% Coco, 30% Worm Castings, 20% Perlite). 3 Gallon Fabric Pots Bottom ~1/3 of pots have ~70/30 mix of soil to coco blend. Next 1/3 is ~50/50 and top is 30/70. Amended top with 1Tbs Gaia Green 4-4-4 and initially watered with plain tap water. Let soil sit while seeds germinated. 3/22 - Placed first 2 seeds to germinate in pots at around 8:30am. Watered with de-chlorinated tap water ph’d to ~6.5. Watered only around immediate area of planted seeds. Used this period to dial in temperature, waiting on ceramic heating lamp, but used a space heater that has a built in thermostat. Was able to maintain ~80f most of the day. Turned temp down at night to attempt to maintain ~70f. No photos of germinated seeds.

cheeseburger_walrus 3/27 - Sprouted a couple of days ago. Have only watered once since planting, no nutrients. Have been maintaining ~78f 65%RH Daytime, and ~71f 60%RH Nighttime. Plant A is noticeably larger and a slightly lighter green than Plant B. (B) did show signs of stress as soon as it emerged from soil, slightly brown tips of cotyledons and first true leaves. Seems to be recovering nicely. 3/28 - Watered today, RO water at ~6.0-6.5ph. No nutrients. Both plants showing good growth, both getting taller. Considering increasing light, getting a light meter tomorrow. Light is currently ~18” from seedlings at 50%. Maintained daytime temps ~78f and humidity around 65%RH. Set night temp and RH to ~70f and 55%.

cheeseburger_walrus Start of week 2: 3/30 - Day 7 Watered with RO ph ~6.5. Probably have been conservative with water, got a moisture meter to help. I think the 70/30 coco blend on top of the pots dries out faster than I thought. Still no nutrients. After I got the light meter I figured out I was probably stressing the plants slightly. Lowered power to lights on 3/29, now at 20%. Around 150 ppfd now, 10 DLI. It seems plant A has darkened up a bit, both plants are looking healthy. Plant A is still larger but they seem to have matched growth rates. 4/6 - Day 13 Just stayed on a once a day watering schedule slightly increasing the amount since last update. Started adding calmag to water at about 150-200ppm. Water is 6.0-6.5ph. Daytime ~77f at ~65%RH, Nightime is ~70f and ~60%RH. Today is the first day I watered the pots fully (not to runoff) since they sprouted. Added 1-1/2Tbs Gaia green all purpose and mixed in a couple small handfuls of worm castings to top dress both pots. Watered both with 1L of water. Red is basically a whole node ahead in growth to Blue. Planning on doing some LST on Red to try to keep it even with Blue going into flower.

cheeseburger_walrus 4/7 - Day 14 Just kept environment stable today. No water. Growth is steady on both plants. I do not see any signs of stress at this time. 4/9 - Day 16 Decided to start LST on red. Blue still growing obviously slower than Red. Assuming it’s genetic at this point.

cheeseburger_walrus 4/13 - Day 20 - Started LST on blue. Noticed fungus gnats. Ordered traps, BTi and diatomaceous earth. 4/14 - Day 21 - Applied DE and traps. Letting soil dry back an extra day to help slow gnat life cycle. 4/15 - Day 22 - Watered each plant with 2L of water treated with BTi and also steeped with a small amount of worm castings. Ph to 6-6.5. 4/19 - Day 26 - Giving significant dryback to help with gnats. They have not been terrible and I think I’m starting to see less already. Will water again tomorrow with BTi. Plants are looking very healthy. LST has been extremely effective on Red. Combined with leaf tucking and it has exploded in growth. Blue is just overall growing slower than red. I did slightly damage a leaf while laying traps for gnats on Blue. Doesn’t seem to stress it at all, just growing slower and steady. Hoping to see signs of flowering in the next week.
