TangerineDre4m Day -4
29-03-2026
Today the last Gelato seed left, was planted directly into her final 7 gallon container. As always, I filled it with my soil mixture and left a planting hole to fill with some regular potting soil. I added biochar, charged with bloodmeal and wormtea for 72 hours, and kelp meal into my soil mixture before curing. The soil has been curing for about 10 weeks and looks fluffy and rich. This is my first time using the 7 gallon pots and the new amendments. There were noticable quality diffences from my previous soil adjustments. Also the first time using recyled soil from a previous run and running 3 plants total instead of 4.
Looking forward to how all these changes are gonna affect the grow.
Update 05-04-2026: The Gelato seed germinated after about 4 days. However, the entire tent encountered a problem: soil mites sitting on the seedlings in very large numbers. This caused damage to the cotyledons and the first set of true leaves/growth tip. I think leaving the humidity dome on and the soil moving from outside into a warm tent spiked their population. Well, lesson learned. I sprayed them off with some water and they haven't returned.
The Gelato was not affected as badly, and is recovering well after a 48-hour recalibration. I'm very happy she decided to give life a shot!
Peace 🙏

Day 7
The Gelato definitely stalled around a day or 2 because of the mites. She recovered very well though, and is pushing out new growth every day. Even though her first pair of serrated leaves was damaged by the mites, the second pair looks perfectly normal and I think she will be completely fine. The rest of the plants weren't as lucky, as I lost three seedlings. I now suspect it has something to do with the potting soil I used in my planting hole.
I removed the lowest nodes and did the first LST on day 13.
Thanks for checking in, happy 420.

Day 15-20
Day 15-19: 17 DLI
Day 20: 22 DLI
Gelato is around 15 day old. After her first LST two days ago, she was readjusted again today. She is responding well and growing happily. I'm going to try a little more aggressive LST this time around, let's see what it leads to.
On day 19 I removed one of the fan leaves blocking the 4 remaining side branches.
On day 20, Gelato's side branches are starting to explode. I have taken another leaf from the main since it was touching the soil and growing into it. I think she is ready for some more water and light to stimulate growth. I watered with around 600ml of tapwater around the plant and raised DLI to 22. Will increase to around 25 DLI over the next few days.

Day 21-27
Day 21: 22 DLI
Day 22: 25 DLI
On day 21, Gelato's side branches are starting to take off. They will probably receive LST in the coming days. The growth site underneath the main was removed, as was facing the soil and would just clutter growth.
On day 22 I did some light guidance on the side branches to keep them going in the right direction. I also increased DLI to 25 and watered with 1L in a medium ring around the plant. I also had to turn the pot around to get optimal DLI for all plants, hence why in the day 23 pic the plant is facing the opposite direction.
On day 23 Gelato is looking great. Her growth is accelerating daily and she is responding well to the light and water increases. Her main is still the lowest in the canopy and I'm planning to keep it down another 48 hours until I leave for 5 days. By then, her sides should all be caught up enough to create a more even canopy. I have increased VPD from 0.9 to 1 by reducing humidity to 67%.
On day 24 she was watered with 1,5L of water.

Day 28-35
Day 30: 28 DLI
Day 32: 32 DLI
Day 35: 35 DLI
Day 30: After being away for a couple of days, it's nice coming back to the Gelato. She has grown a lot and her canopy has become very even: LST was a success. I removed probably around 7-8 leafs that were shading multiple tops. Also removed some of the lower nodes that were weaker and crowding the canopy. She is still showing vegetative growth and is building a really strong structure for the transition into flower. While I was away, watering didn't go as planned but no harm was done. She received 1.7L yesterday.
Day 31: She is already thirsty again after about 48 hours. She will be watered with 2L of rainwater today.
Day 33: She was watered with 2,5L of rainwater. It's clear that she is ramping up her metabolism to shoot into stretch. She is noticably growing taller every day.
Day 35: She is dry again after 48 hours. She will receive 3L of rainwater today. DLI was increased to 35. Her growth is vigorous and even across tops, very happy with her development!

Day 36-42
Day 36: 35 DLI
Day 36: Growth at the tips is clearly shifting to flower. Her structure is very dense so I hope it doesn't become too cluttered. Once she rises a bit more, I'll go over her for a lollipopping session. Most lower nodes have already been removed over time, but I want to make sure the inner canopy stays a bit more open. Depending on how she develops, I'll probably do that in 3 or so days.
Day 37: 60 hours after her last drink, she was watered with 3,5L.
Day 39: She was watered with 4L of rainwater,
Day 40: I cleaned out the canopy a little. There were too many leaves to be tucked, so I removed all the ones blocking multiple bud sites, those not getting any light and those cluttering up airflow.
Day 41: The soil was dry so I watered with 4,1L of rainwater and 400ml of wormtea.

Day 43-49
Day 44: I am probably gonna need to do another small canopy cleanup. She just keeps on going, what a plant. I have nicknamed her 'The Hedgehog' because she looks a bit like one that has curled into a ball: super even round canopy. Today I watered her with 5L of rainwater, about 72 hours after her last watering.
Day 47: After around 80 hours, I watered with 5L.
Day 49: Gelato is 7 weeks old now. She is looking bushy and still very even. It's quite a job keeping her canopy open through selective defoliation and leaf tucking. I had to raise Gelato to keep her equal in terms of DLI with the other plants. Although she vegged the longest and is by far the biggest plant, she spread her energy equally over a lot of tops. This caused her to stay more compact. Her flowers are really starting to develop. All plants really seem to have synced their flower to within one week of each other. Can't wait to see how the tent will look and smell in 2 weeks :).
Day 50: Watered with 5L.

Day 58: It's been a while since the last update. Gelato is showing very vigorous growth. I have done some more defoliation and have removed a multitude of inner tops. Barely any of that work is visible though... she is just so dense! Her canopy is basically only flowering tops and is very very even. I'm looking forward to how she will look in a week or two, when she starts putting on weight.

Gelato is around 63 days old and the canopy is looking frosty. It's so dense, just one big bud basically. The smell is really starting to come in and she smells very similar to my previous Gelato (the smaller one I grew). I absolutely love the smell: creamy and sweet with indefinable chemical notes. I have been doing some more leaf and node removal every couple of days. She is happily drinking 5L every 72 hours. Stacking is well underway and she is transitioning to bulking up. Again quite an impressive plant so far.
