So, I'm starting my very first soil grow! Ordered a bag of Michigan Made Mix (M3) and some 2-gallon felt pots. Going with only water, and only lst, no topping, no nutes. Back to the basics. We'll see what happens. 👍🏻
Transferred to 2-gallon felt pots of M3 soil on day 6. Roots looked good, not cramped. So far, so good.
Seedlings were watered at day 6 when transferred to the 2-gallon pots. Then again on day 11. I had a little scare with aphids that came into the tent on a small pepper plant. It just didn't cross my mind to check again after first arriving. Lesson learned. Judicious amounts of diatomaceous earth was used to eradicate them. So far, I've seen no additional evidence of the pests. 🤞🏼 Beta got a blob of dirt or a drop of water right on the growth tip. It seems to have stunted it just a bit. Other than that, they're all looking great. The M3 soil really seems to please the plants. Oh, and i almost forgot, I added some earthworms to each of the Roo's pots! Now I officially have living soil, 🤣🤣.
Topped Beta at day 13. Removed the stunted leaves and I want to try different training for each of the trio. At least until gender is revealed.
So far, so good. I think I'm overwatering a bit, hence the damage visible on the lower leaves. I'm thinking the roots aren't breathing well enough. However, the growth is still steady and healthy. I'll just try to do better as I adjust to soil growing, moving from hydro. I'm really excited about running photos again. They seem much more hardy and forgiving, at least from my limited experience so far.
Beta is the only on that's been topped so far. And Charlie is still in the lead, and looking great. Alpha is just behind Charlie, but struggling a bit more. It's been an interesting grow already, looking forward to watching them grow!
Day 21 - Beta has been confirmed male. He was culled from the tent this afternoon. Alpha has been topped at the fourth node. So far, Alpha and Charlie are both doing great. Charlie is so pretty I couldn't bear topping it. Just gonna wait and watch what he/she does!
Still using just water!
Alpha is responding well to topping and loss of main fan leaves. Most of the growth tips are about even now. She's gonna be a beast!
Charlie is just beautiful. I am in love with those leaves! I clipped a couple of the lower fan leaves off last week. This week, I just tucked some to let the lower growth get some light. So far, so good! 😎
Still using only water. Alpha is showing preflowers, looks a lot like a male to me. Charlie, on the other hand, is looking female! I'm debating on trying my very first seed run. 🤔
Turns out 'Alpha' was a male. He was regrettably culled on day 30. I topped 'Charlie' on day 31 and attempted to root the removed portion(s). Hopefully I can get a mother started for next round! Charlie is super strong and healthy so far. I'm really happy with how she's taken to training. And she barely even noticed having her head removed, lol. Awesome genetics.
She's taking being topped very well. All the growth tips are staying about even and starting to get taller now. I plan to wait another week or two to flip. Still not sure how much more to lollipop the branches. I'll try to see what she tells me she wants. 😁
Sadly, the 'head' clone didn't make it. It's been removed from the tent, but the little tiny clones in the solo cup are hanging on. Oh, and the big mama Charlie is still looking strong and happy as ever.
I absolutely love this strain. My plant was topped at the fifth node and then trained into a flat circle canopy before flipping to flower after 7 weeks veg time. I only wish I let her grow longer before the flip! She never really had any issues. I managed to take several clones that I have running now, and I can't wait to see how she turns out in different styles. Overall, I am very pleased with my grow. 40 grams isn't a huge yield, but this stuff is very potent and tasty, more than making up for the smaller yield. I'm still very happy with what I got from my first 2-gallon grow of this new strain.
Water only, still. Mama Charlie is kicking all kinds of ass. I've been letting her get a bit more dry between watering lately. She seems to like it much better. I'm planning to flip next week, so this will be her last week to bush out before the stretch. I'm very happy with her shape and structure so far. If I can keep the canopy nice and even, I think she's going to be a great harvest.
I was a bit lazy with my ph and it shows a bit. Plus the defoliation I did a few days ago didn't help. But other than that, she looks happy and healthy. Still only giving her water! M3 soil is pretty damn great imo, but good genetics certainly help! Can't wait to smell her in bloom. She's pretty smelly already, mostly a kind of chemical orange (as expected). So stoked!
Only water still! She's started stretching very slowly in flower. I may have stressed her a bit with some heavy-ish defoliation before the switch. But pistils are popping now. She's gonna explode any day now. So excited. 😁
Still very slowly stretching. Only fed tap water at 6.5ph. She's a super bushy girl, but very happy and healthy so far. Just trying to be patient. 😁
Humidity in the tent was getting into the high 60s, so she got her 21 day defoliation a little early at F18. I'm betting she'll need another trim then anyways. 👍🏻
Decided to leave her alone at F21 after all. She got a lot taken off already and seems to be focused on buds now anyways. Now we wait and watch.
Still just water! She's still very slowly stretching, but mostly seems to be focused on fattening up those little budlets up and down each branch. Looks to me like she's gonna be a real monster though. Can't wait!
She's starting to fill in. Every branch has about an 8 inch spear of budlets just getting bigger and frostier every day! She smells fantastic, like the gritty orange soap mechanics use. She is still only getting plain tap water with pH set to 6.5. That's it. Just watching and waiting.
Water only. Doing good, just waiting her out. 👍🏻 She got placed atop a bucket this week, to get her a bit closer to the light. She seems to really enjoy it. 😁 She's very slowly getting fatter, but I don't expect an awful lot more. Still, I get at least 10 good, solid colas!
She is beginning her fade! Also, as of today, she has distinctly changed her scent to a very strong burnt rubber smell! She is definitely the strongest smelling plant in the tent. I can't wait to try her, but I have to be patient and let her finish. 😁
Her larger fans have begun to curl and fade as she finishes up. Her scent changed late last week from a dank chemical orange to a distinct burnt rubber smell. It caught me by surprise, but I was warned to keep an eye out for it. I guess it's a good sign. Either way, I can't wait to see her finished. It's been a long wait and I'm awful eager.
She's really swelling up the last week or so! She smells crazy strong now. I'm hoping she's done at 9 weeks, but I have another plant that will be 10, I think, so it might all work out. She has been a super easy grow. She took to training very well and has pretty even buds across the canopy. I'm really excited to see how much she yields. And even more so to enjoy her effects!
I've decided she's ready! I plan to harvest right at 9 weeks, on day 63. She's gotten much fatter throughout, and sparkles with sticky trichromes. I can't wait to get her all dried and cured. It's been a long wait, but more than worth it.
