Planted on a rainy June20th. #10 pot half filled with mix of potting soil, sheep compost, blood meal, bone meal. Top half straight potting soil. Pots watered, seed placed in 1 inch section of paper roll with an off the shelf germinating mix. Placed in a sheltered area behind chicken coops. Will move pots around to maximize sun exposure as there are some trees nearby that may shade the area a bit in the afternoon.
Bright sunshine. Kept seed area moist until emergence, then watered pot with a half gallon well water on day six. Only one pot sprouted so investigated on the evening of day four. No seed found so either I didn’t plant it (it was raining when I put seeds in) or a bird got lucky. Replaced seed so should see it up tomorrow.
Very happy with this little plant. Very vigorous emergence. Cotlydons had unfolded by noon on day 4.
Fertilized on day 12 with a homemade yogurt whey solution described in my amnesia diary. Plants responded well. Yogurt whey is a bit acidic so I buffered it with calcium carbonate and diluted it heavily.
The second plant is growing well. I’m impressed with how much faster these are than the Amnesias. Should see some real growth in the coming week. Time to think about training.
Back in the early nineties I tried my hand at growing weed. I had been to Amsterdam and bought some seeds.... can’t remember the strain but it was very grapey tasting. Anyway, I built a cabinet, bought some expensive mercury vapor and HPS fixtures and bulbs from the hardware store and set about starting seeds, making cuttings, and learning as I went. I did ok and grew some passably tasty buds. Never heard of training back then. I grew lots of small clones in a “sea of green” fashion. Long way of saying that this is my first attempt at training plants. Looking forward to seeing how this goes.
I started seed number three in my accursed pot. I’m guessing a bird did number two in by picking mayflies off it as there was a hatch last week and the plant was shredded not eaten.
No fertilizer this week as afternoon rains have kept the pots fairly saturated. I think the whey last week caused the plants to outrun their Fe supply as there was some slight yellowing of young leaves that corrected itself after a day or too. It’s been dry three days now so maybe some more whey tomorrow. The roots should be firmly into the blood and bone meal now so I’m looking for a growth spurt going into preflower.
Gave feeding of 1ltr of whey, teaspoon epsom salt, teaspoon potassium chloride diluted to 8 litres among three pots on day 24.
Growth for this Sweet plant has been explosive this week. Working to train the top north and side branches have gone crazy. Starting to see some pistles but no real bud growth yet. Grow baby grow.
Finally took a proper measurement of the size: 45 cm along the main stem, 90 cm across the widest point of Lst, tallest stem about 30 cm. It’s at least twice the size of the auto Amnesias grown side by side. If it grows buds as good as it’s grown veg it will be a very good plant.
Fed a teaspoon each of kelp liquid and molasses in 8 litres of water among the three plants (two amnesias) on day 30. Weather hit and muggy with afternoon storms. Will have to water this evening as I’ll be traveling a few days. Would like to get a good dry spell so soil can recuperate from the storms. This plant sure doesn’t seem to mind the weather though.
Just a great plant. Fed molasses and kelp on day 45. I’m just letting her grow and trying to stay out of the way. @Sweet_Seeds so far this is much more than I e petted this summer. Thanks!
Continuing to feed kelp and molasses. Added some compost tea this week just to give an extra boost going into the last few weeks. Noted some yellowing of lower leaves meaning maturation has begun I guess.
Well, I had my day count wrong in my last two posts. This is day 56 from dry seed in ground. Other diaries I’ve read indicate she has about 2-3 weeks to go.
Still giving kelp and molasses weekly but may back off to plain water after one more feeding. I’m really happy about the way the buds are swelling and getting sticky. Completely enjoying this plant.
August is moving on past. Finally getting some cooler days. Had several rains last week so haven’t watered or given molasses and kelp. The pot was well enriched with bone and blood meal to start and it has certainly served this plant well. As @Sweet Seeds noted in the comments she has sustained some insect damage but I don’t think the buds have been affected.
I’m looking to maximize CBD. THC is not as important to me in this strain, and I have mixed feelings about CBN. I want a very relaxing medicine to help my wife with muscle spasms she gets at night from prescription meds she takes for a serious heart condition. While CBN may help her sleep, it also gives a groggyness that she would not want. I wish there was better info out there about harvesting. I got a microscope to watch trichomes with and will probably harvest on the late side of peak and just hope she tolerates the CBN well.
Wow! Could not ask for a better introduction to autoflowering cannabis. It was fascinating to see it grow. I had a very mild run in with some inchworm type caterpillars, but other than that it was some good organic in the potting mix, some liquid kelp and molasses.
I waited for a nice day to harvest with some good mild dry breezy days in the forecast. I hung it up after a plain water soak just to loosen any dust or remnants of insecticidal soap I had sprayed three weeks before. Once it was dry to touch I covered the hanging plant with a large paper bag to keep any dew off at night and to give some protection from drying too quickly. It hung outside for five days. Rain threatened on day six so I took the buds off the stem and brought it in to a humidity controlled area and kept it in the bag which I left open for two days and then folded close for five more. I opened the bag and gently stirred the buds once a day.
Trimming was a bit more challenging than other varieties I’ve trimmed dry because the sugar leaves were incredibly sticky. Got a nice little ball of scissor/ finger hash to try eventually. Final weight going into the jars was 75 grams of bud and 37 grams of leaf and popcorn.
The smell has evolved a bit but is still a sharp green fruit smell. But as I was trimming I kept getting some woodsy tones as well. Most of this will go to tincture and maybe some brownies. I plant to try a dry ice extraction as well . This is medicine for my wife who has never used pot until recently when she was diagnosed with a serious illness that comes with a number of painful side effects from the medication. She has tried some 1:1 store bought weed in a tincture but the taxman in Canada gives us a nice incentive to try growing.
Anyway if it works for her I am sure I will be growing this strain again and will likely try some other Sweet Seed strains as well. I’m truly happy with the plant.
