Running a no till organic setup in a 5x5 Secret Jardin. 4 smart pots with homemade organic soil using sphagnum peat moss as medium. The lights are 900watt ChilledTech LED's with supplemental UVa booster boards. Four 6in fans in each corner of the tent to push air. Inofia 30 pint dehumidifier. Lights are running at 50% power 24inches above the canopy. Purple sunset is on day 9 and is sprouting new pair of true leaves. Two cherry garcia are on day 5 and have sprouted their first true leaves. The crescendo is on day 1 as it just broke through the soil. No watering as the 15 gal pots were relatively moist when the germinated seeds were placed in the soil. Currently have a slight fungus gnat problem. Beneficial nematodes to help fight the larvae. Desert sand for barrier. DE and fly traps for the adults. Neem oil. Temps and humidity have been giving me issues as this is my first grow and I am trying to learn the tent and the room.
This week was all about implementation of pest control. In the middle of the week parasitic nematodes were applied to the top layer of soil. They require a very moist environment to best function so I had to keep the pots very wet as they move via water.
Was having heat and humidity issues this week as it was very hot and humid around here. Finally broke down and turned on the rooms environmental control. Moved the cover blocking the screened ventilation and my temps and humidity quickly dropped into perfect levels. 75 deg F with a humidity of 62%. Pretty much perfect for early growth if following VPD charts.
Purple sunset is starting to show early signs of Cal deficiency in the false leaves. Could be due to Azos treatment and first true leaves are clawing which is sign of N toxicity.
Other plants are growing normally and have nothing unusual to report. 🙌
This week was all about trying to recover the Purple Sunset that is reacting poorly to the bacterial inoculation that occurred with the beneficial nematode addition. These plants have all been given only RO water @ pH between 6.5-6.9. No other nutrients have been provided so it must be the nitrogen fixating bacterium that is causing the issue. The bacterium was introduced into an environment with only one root system. The bacteria must be spread out between multiple root systems to draw nitrogen more evenly into the system. I planted a bunch of red clover and around 4 fava beans. This will create many more root systems for the bacteria to interact with and thus spread the nitrogen between the other plants. Since this is my first time growing I was very slow in recognizing the symptoms so I compensated by also adding a Ruby Jeweled Coleus plant to the pot. These plants have a very fine root system that expands rapidly when placed in well drained soil. I transplanted the Coleus into the troubled container and watered heavily around the plant and in a direct line away from the Purple Sunset. Bacteria travel via water so creating a very moist highway between the two plants will help spread the bacterial population. Hopefully by next weeks update the purple sunset will be on its way to recovery.
The two Cherry Garcia and the Crescendo are all growing very well with tight internodal spacing. By rubbing the first true leaves I can get a sense of the smells. The Cherry is sweet with hints of cotton candy, cherry, apricot and caramel. The Crescendo is spicy with a minty gas aroma. The purple sunset is citrusy and diesel.
Fungus gnat population seems to be completely eradicated however I will be giving the plants another dose of beneficial nematodes once the lights shut off tonight.
Plants are doing well. Cherry Garcia and Crescendo are the two I decided to keep. Put up a the first scrog net to support the plants. I've been bending then under spreading out the canopy. I can only give these plants water. Anything with bacteria causes nutrient burn. Makes for a very easy grow. Love my no till setup.
