My first decent grow!
This diary has not been written week by week, instead it has been written all at once. I found out about this website after the harvest of this plant and thought it could be interesting to post about it here, since I did document the growth of this plant by making pictures.
The plant has been grown in a custom made box, which I made with the purpose of being able to grow in a small space in a discreet manner. This first prototype contained fans and a 50W LED grow light. It did not contain any type of odour filter. The strain chosen to grow was Blue Mystic Auto, mainly because it is said that this is a weak smelling plant...
The plant has been grown in a 3 liter airpot, filled with Biobizz All Mix with a small amount of coffee grounds mixed in. Aside from this soil the plant has not received any additional nutrients at all, only watering.
Finally, the seed has been germinated directly in the soil. I mistakenly thought that the planted seed did not germinate after around a week and planted another seed in the same pot. After several days suddenly two seedlings popped out around the same time. One of those I've taken out and transplanted into a very small pot, purely so that I could fit both plants in the grow box. The plant in the airpot received all the love and attention.
The planted started to grow quite fast in comparison with the last week. The formation of buds seems to have begun. I have started to tie down the branches in order to create an even canopy and to prevent the development of one main cola. I've been playing around with the light distance by propping up the pots. This was quite difficult due to the size of them and the grow space.
The plant kept growing and I kept trying to keep the branches on a similar level in terms of height. Despite this, it is evident that there is still one dominant main cola.
The buds are definitely growing. This strain has been advertised as a smaller type of plant which I'm willing to believe. Despite the small pot and lack of additional nutrients, the plant seems to be healthy and growing. The strain is also advertised as weak smelling... Well perhaps this is true when compared with other types of strains, but on itself it definitely smells like plain ol' dankness.
Up close the plant really starts to resemble a bonsai plant due to the LST. It's nice and compact.
I've decided to take the second plant from the smaller pot and transplant it to a solo cup. This purely to create more space for the airpot, so that I could place it directly underneath the grow light.
The buds have fattened up quite a bit in this week. Along with this the smell also has become quite stronger. Make no mistake, you definitely know what you smell if you happened to be in the same room!
At this point it started to become very tempting to chop up the plant because my oh my, the buds look delicous!
Instead I've decided to give the plant a trimming and to invest in a usb-microscope.
The plant hasn't grown drastically compared to last week, the buds seem te be a bit more firm. By checking upon the trichomes it was clear that the lady was not ready yet to get chopped.
The plant looked nice and frosty and smelled great too! It looks like the plant has neared the end of its life cycle with the dying of its leaves. But as long as the buds look good and the trichomes are not ready yet, the plant will live to see another day.
I think the end result was quite nice. The yield was not earthshattering, but it did serve as a kind of proof of concept that my stealth box was working!
This was all done under a 50W grow light in a tiny space, no nutes aside from the Biobizz All Mix mixed with some coffee grounds,
The dried and cured Blue Mystic Auto smelled quite lovely, it had a bit of a medicinal herb like smell. The taste while smoking was honestly nothing special, not bad but not premium either. But the after effects were definitely there, this strain is quite a sleeper in hitting you!
I can only wonder what I could achieve with this stealth box by just growing one plant from the beginning and adding nutrients during the flowering phase. Finally, an odour filter is definitely a must! Perhaps this might be something for a second prototype...
