jyodinath My second Frisian Duck grow. Hoping to implement what I learnt from the previous grow, which is yet to reach harvest. Day 3 crisis - Some bird knocked down the seedling container yesterday and the first set of true leaves got damaged and are now almost white and dried 😫. Fuck you Harry J. Anslinger! The cotyledons are perfectly safe though, and there is some green growth structure persisting in between. Will it grow new leaves or should I start over? Thanking in advance. Day 4 Update - She survives. Seems to be growing four leaves, two new leaves plus two from the remnants of the 1st true set leaves. Day 4 epiphany - She was strong enough to survive after taking this much damage from the world. I previously bought a 3 seed pack of Dutch Passion Frisian Duck through Seedsman who have lovely packaging services. I germinated each of them two weeks after the previous one died of "Dampening Off", all 3 faced the same Dampening Off problem, where they got so thin somewhere in the middle of the shoot and fell down for good. And then I ordered again through Seedsman for a 10 seed pack of Dutch Passion Frisian Duck thinking maybe the magic number is one in 5 germinate or whatever, so that atleast I'll end up having two plants. And Now out of the two I germinated both have grown well, only difference is it was kept in a windy location. So I think that Dampening off is absolutely because of the grow area not being windy enough for the plant to grow healthily.

jyodinath A little drop of nutrient spilled on the bottom leaf, now it's burnt half white. Some tiny insects have chewed up and made holes in another leaf. Day 15 - Help! Some bird had uprooted the seedling, looking for straw in the coco coir maybe, 😞 I have tried my best to revive her and have replanted her. Day 19 update - She survives. But she's not fully recovered yet, am wondering why is she yet to produce any new leaf growth.

This is the second time some bird is damaging my plant. Some pigeon has uprooted the seedling. I noticed it hours later in the night. Root was almost intact, it was just uprooted and left there. I have replanted her now. Will she recover?? How to deal with birds in outdoor grow?

@jyodinath You should construct some type of barrier that can cover your plant still let light thru but protect your baby from those pesky birds Anything can be used really a large plastic bottle with the bottom removed and placed over the plant or a wire cage with a clear plastic covering just use your imagination as for the health of the plant she should recover however you need to let that grow medium dry a bit between waterings so the roots can breath and to stop bugs get some diatomaceous earth and sprinkle it across the top of the pot the plant is in this will stop the litter buggers in their tracks I hope I was able to help answer this question Best of Luck

jyodinath Had a bad episode with neem oil. Mistake was mine. I applied it directly on the leaves thinking it'll safeguard against pests, but it was a poor decision, the older leaves survived but the young leaves got burnt and dried up. She survived anyway and new growth has started towards end of this week.

jyodinath One side of the plant looks stunted. The lingering effects of neem oil burn maybe? Will it get normal automatically as it grows?

jyodinath Faced multiple obstacles as she was growing, but still she kept going through the veg phase. Towards the end of flowering, I faced some issues with some insect laying eggs on the under sides of buds. I had to harvest immediately and basically cut and just throw off the bottom end of the buds.

@SmallTownGrower, Yes I topped her during week 10 and planted the top part (not really sure if she'll live), I guess that's why it went into flowering instead of growing individually.

@DILLIGAF, I was actually planning to do it a week later. She's just a little over 4 cms now.

@jyodinath Hi mate answered your question it's best to try to deter birds etc rather than harm them as much as they can be frustrating it is their environment and they don't deserve to be shot over a plant so Ive put in a couple of ideas for protecting the plant rather than terrorising the fauna 😂

give the leaves a rinse with water and next time just sprinkle the DE around the bottom of the plant
Indianfarmer
Indianfarmercommentedweek 66y ago
Your plant is under attack by fungus.. the fungus is inside leaves you must use some strong antifungal to get rid of it or it will spread on ur whole plant..and water a bit less than u usually do.
the end.
