- Set up is very basic: 35cm X 50cm cupboard space (1-2cm door gap), myler film wall lining, weak USB fan, 138W LED light. Odour reduction: Ona gel tub in bedroom & carbon pellets hung inside stocking in growroom. Set up cost around $230 in total including seeds, nutrients, soil, LED, fan, ona gel, wifi plug timer, thermometer, pipette etc.
- Soil contents: light soil, perlite, worm casting, generic compost (around 3:2:1:1) + grinded egg shells. In hindsight I should have also included dolomite lime.
- Organic natural nutrients, except biosilicon used throughout veg.
- First watering at seed plantation: organic tomato feed (1/4 dose), mycorrhizae powder (1/2 dose). Sprouted 3 days after planting seed. Added organic kelp and biosilicon a week into sprout.
- Any advice welcome. :)
Soil was dry so gave second watering at day 11 with organic NPK feed, kelp, biosilicon and mycorrhizae powder (1/4 - 1/2 dose). Bottom leaves curling up - possible heat stress?
Enormous leaves and strong stems. Plant still quite short but so far so good. Water at day 20: organic NPK, biosilicon, kelp and mycorrhizae powder (1/3 dose).
- Unfortunately away from home from this week for 3 weeks - plant checked up on every few days by someone else. NPK feed was forgotten last time, leaves at bottom start to yellow, dry and die - emergency top up of NPK on day 28. Unable to feed plant for over a week, plant almost dies.
- Start to smell stronger - can discern smell in bedroom. Opened Ona gel for the first time, smell in room clears up
Day 36 - finally able to feed after 9 days of being left alone. Found plant dying and shrivelled up in poor state. Leaves were thin and droopy, overall size of plant halved. Cut off approx 10 dead fan leaves at the bottom from main stem. :(
- Bud sites found to be evenly spread out despite no LST (possibly due to shrinkage?), attempted further tying down with elastic bands to allow more even light penetration
- Gave 1/2 dose of organic NPK, kelp, biosilicon, mycorrhizae powder. Next morning soil was dry so gave another 1/2 dose of nutes (swapped biosilicon with biocanna).
- Switched to 24/0 light again (had 18/6 for a week) to allow recovery and growth
- Some level of recovery looking hopeful!
- Fed on Monday: water mixed with Biocanna (1/3 dose), molasses (1 tsp), kelp feed (1/3 dose), alfalfa powder, mycorrhizae and bat guano powder (added NPK feed and other nutes at mid week 6 but resulted in very slight nute burn so stopped adding NPK feed.) Plant looked very happy the next day!
- Watering every 4-5 days approx at this point
- Been seeing signs of nitrogen deficiency (yellowing leaves from the bottom, discolouring from the centre of leaves etc.) so bought alfalfa powder. Not sure if this works as well as alfalfa meal/pellets?
- Since beginning of recovery (last week) the plant grew by 2 inches
- Smell is stronger, ona gel doesn't completely get rid of smell. Added more carbon pellets and put them in front of USB fan.
- Light is kept at 24h due to cold outside temperature
Leaves starting to yellow and die, some top leaves are becoming purple. Now just watering every 3 days or so with molasses, biocanna boost and myco. (Also added a dose of organic tomato feed sometime during this week as I thought it was dying too fast).
- Watering every 3 days with a small dose of molasses each time. Picked out some half dying leaves (yellowing) to potentially make butter with it ;). Some trichomes are starting to become amber (I just take a photo with a DSLR and zoom in).
- Pretty humid and cold recently but it's doing ok so far. May need to get out my dehumidifier soon.
Very relaxing, all sorts of creative things happen in my head, trippy visuals on good music, sexual, definitely a good couch-lock (I may have harvested quite late). High is very enjoyable, not for when you want to get anything done! Not as trippy as amnesia haze though. May change as curing continues.
Pretty happy with what I got considering I let it almost die halfway through and it's my first grow. The taste is extremely sweet - may have put too much molasses! - but I am still curing, looking forward to how it evolves. I only vape and it's awesome (smoking is bad for you anyway). I tried vaping wet popcorn weed and the effects and hangover were horrible (lesson learnt), definitely worth the dry and cure process. 0
Ok awesome, :) I would suggest using some BioBizz nutes, because those are all I've really used, (this is like my 2nd or 3rd grow) I'm sure they are organic also. Have you heard of the BioBizz range? I use both the Bloom and Top-max in the BioBizz range, they are really good, also the Alg-a-Mic is really good stuff, it's a kind of seaweed foliar feed, which can also be added to the water :) really helps them along, and can be used at all stages of the growth.
Your NL is looking really awesome :) I've got 3 NL seedlings on the go currently.. and can't wait to see them flowering.. cos supplies are fast dwindling from last grow :(
@amex0931, You're always welcome .. :)
In terms of strains, and it sounds like stealth is a bit of a priority, I would stick with strains that are considered lower odour strains, and avoid the sativa / indica hybrids as they tend to produce more odour anyway. So check out some indica dominant strains, NL, Black Domina, and various others like, Blue Mystic, Lowryder, Aurora Indica.
If you want to grow just autos, then check out something with "dwarf" in the name, as this would indicate these plants tend to grow short.
Do you prefer to grow autos? or if not fussy, then this will add to the availability of more strains
and choices you'll have available..
The worlds your oyster as they say.. or in this case, the seedbanks are your oyster 😇
@GrimReefer69, thanks for the suggestions - will definitely check them out! I've been trying to keep it simple and limit the size because I don't want to stink up the whole house (but I realised by the end that it smells a lot anyway), I enjoyed growing this NL because it was very forgiving to stress. Any other suggestions on strains I'd love to know.
@GrimReefer69, thanks :) I thought it's been the same 11.5 inches but I just measured it to be 13.5 inches tall (12th week). Doing okay I think considering I let it almost die during growth spurt. I've not been adding bloom nutes no, if you have any recommendations on organic bloom nutes I'd love to know!
This is a KILLER looking grow. I see some experience shining through here. Nice job! I see we are both utilizing the 24/0 light schedule with our autoflowers. Not many of us do this beginning to end of grow. I am attempting my first "topless" SCROG (trying to bend instead) with 6 different strains right now, of which one is an auto Northern Lights. It would be cool if you would like/follow along and make a suggestion or two. - Zannabis7
