15 Aug # Well here is the start of the DWC SOLO cup SILKY challenge. Using a Gifted Bruce Banner Auto. Might have a few going after I have a meet up with a friend. Start at my mom's finish at my Apartment will be a side by side with my small grow. Getting supplies ready Will be using kratky technique which is letting the plant absorb solution and top off the solution. By keeping the roots 1/2 submerged you gain the advantage of not having to introduce air into the roots. The disadvantage is that you must monitor your solution height and ensure you don't run dry for too long. The container is a mason jar and I might even try no wrap as there is a low chance of algae to grow due to the fact that you are letting the solution dry up. Might try to train a bit. JK of course I am training Using advance nutrients pH perfect. Using distilled water as it is the the most readily available and cheap Definitely going for gold and entering the death match. Welcome to the thunder-dome! 16 Aug # made a batch of 1/2 and full strength nutrients that is not pH'd, just water and add magic and with hope and prayers it is good. Diluted the 1/2 nutes and added to cup and peat pellet soaked it up. Using a peat plug as my seed starter to help balance and add structure to the plant. Been a busy morning, went to the store however the next size net cup was a bit too big which sucks. So far everything has cost me about $12.00 using stuff around the house. Trying to be as cheap as possible on this. Here is a List of stuff if you want to try at home I will include other prices (in CAD) to upscale Price list some prices are rounded up Nutrients - Free using the same stuff ($60.00 for 3 part, you can add others if you want so prices may vary) as my DWC tent grow (average will be ~$10.00 worth in the end) Mason Jar - Free laying around the house (probably $1.00-$2.00, 5L bucket $5.00) Net cup - $1.00 even though it was too big and had another smaller one from my other DWC Grow ($5.00 for a 5l bucket cup) Water - $2.00 that is 8L ($1.00 per 4 L at wal-mart) Seed - $10.00 that is cost in Canada even though it was a gift Sock - Free it was holey Light - Free put in front of a window......... ($30.00 32w one to off set as days are shortening) Fan- free have one laying around ($20.00) Clay pebbles - Free ($5.00 for 10L) So to start and having it grow inside in front of your window you can start a simple hydroponic set up for ~$115 CAD includes seeds. you could make it cheaper if you have things laying around. 17 Aug # Tap root showing not long enough yet. I am trying to see if there is a benefit to paper towel method over soak and plant. So far nothing, For me I finding that soak and plant is faster within 48-72 hours I usually have a seed germinated and first leaves. This could be due to variations in seed quality, genetics, or even small temperature fluctuations. I am not in a position to control every last variable. If there is the first leaves within the next 2 days I will account that for margin of error. 18 Aug # tap root was long enough to transplant. Using a peat pellet instead of rapid rooter to provide a buffer for the plant as the death match requires no pH, cal-mag, and root bacteria nutrients. As a newbie to cannabis I will not be Ashamed of any failures that occur. This challenge is to prove to me and anyone that the plants are strong and hearty enough that just basic knowledge and research can grow a plant. 19 Aug # she is starting to pop through the peat plug not much to see so no pic. I have come to the conclusion there is really no benefit to soak and plant vs paper towel method in speed. However paper towel you can see which seed has popped and that is the only thing that is peace of mind. 20 Aug # First leaves 4 days after using paper towel method. Seems about right for these seeds I have been using.

7 Sept # well took a few shots before coming to check on my DWC at moms house. She is impressive growing beyond her big sister. I have to add water every 3-4 days now to keep up with her. I am not to worried about her temps as it is areound 20-25 during the days and cooler at night so she will have time to recover. still only using natural sunlight to grow. hope to see more changes Sunday. . 12 Sept # end of week

Now that I had a chance to come up......this challenge has taught me a lot about hydroponics. Lesson 1 it is not hard to follow recommended guidelines for nutrients lesson 2 Cannabis is super resilient lesson 3 no need for fancy hardware as long as you have light water nutrients you can grow lesson 4 bubbles and expensive equipment will yield a better crop but it is only for about a 20-30% gain lesson 5 it is not complicated I have stayed true to the challenge, no testing literally just water nutrients no ph up or down. no cal mag. barley any electricity (seedling it was in a tent) Harvest will be in a week She is in a flush now no nutes

This little challenge has taught me a lot about growing. I might use this small method again but with a photo period and larger container. the Fim did somewhat work but she just decided that side branches were a waste of her time so they did not develop much only a popcorn bud.

@Silky_smooth, I am here to have fun and try not to make typos 😅. I love how there is a million ways to grow cannabis. I use my Recreational limits to learn, so when I start to grow for my medical purposes I can be great an efficient. I live for trying to make Sustainability In my life. That is why I have 3 different types of grows going. By far DWC is the most interesting because of Kratky, and if you ever see me make mistakes I hope that you can point them out. I always take advice.

Curious to see how that kratky technique works. Good luck!

@Wicked_Stix, the only problem with it is requires a lot of attention as the stretch phase and beyond consume a lot of water. the other issue is if I cover the jar i have to make a flap to see the water level. however the chance of algae is still there even though it is reduced
