Got this seed for free with order from TNSB. Really excited to see how she goes.
Crappy tyre only had 6 gallon fabric containers so that's what I went with for this one since everywhere was sold out of 5's. Ordered 5's on Amazon for next time.
Using the Vivosun 3x2 tent with a HLG QB96 Elite V2 running at 200w (currently flowering first grow).
The first week has gone well, nothing went wrong so I have nothing to complain about :D
This one seems to be a little slow off the get go, this may be because of the 6 gallon pot though. The roots may be still filling into their area and once this is done I can imagine there will be rapid growth.
Damn fungus gnats have made their way into the tent, they are only bothering this container though. For now I will let it dry out as much as possible between waterings. I sprayed soapy water over the surface of the medium to try to kill the gnats on day 14.
I'm trying to manage a fungus gnats outbreak, luckily it's only effecting this one plant. I have a feeling the root damage the larvae cause is why the leaves are growing all wonky..
I'm sure she will pull through, on day 15 I noticed considerable growth overnight!
Day 20, I had enough of the gnats and wanted to make sure they didn't spread so the medium got sprayed with about 20% vinegar in water.
Just watering when dry pHd between 6.5-6.8. I will top dress with more Gaia Green around day 35.
After spraying the medium down with vinegar there are NO MORE GNATS!! The plant didn't appear to get too effected by the spray but I did avoid hitting the foliage, this was not the case for my sugar snap pea who looks quite sad now. I swear I'm not usually this poor of a gardener, I grew sugar snap peas in the scorching Australian summer (thanks shade cloth)
Any way, with the gnats gone I'm sure I'll see an improvement in how she looks.
On day 26 I noticed pistils, all of the stress she's received over her life has probably made her want to go through the cycle as quickly as possible to try to spread her genes.
She's got some long internode spacing, I would assume it's because of her distance to the light. There's another QB96 coming hopefully on day 36, I'll then have 300watts spread over the whole tent rather than 200w in the middle (I need a PAR sensor!)
I think I have the gnats under control and she is looking healthier now. Weed tolerates vinegar MUCH better than the sugar snap pea does (although I have 3 peas ripening and many more coming!)
Begun LST on day 29 to get her closer to the light, readjusted on day 33 to spread her out.
Had a huge humidity dip due to the moisture in the air outside freezing..
I am super impressed with how much this plant is growing! She has a side branch that looks bigger than my first grow! I'm so excited to see how she turns out!!
She received a top dressing on day 37. Just watering when dry pHd between 6.5-6.8 for another 3 weeks until her last top dress. This strain should flower for 8 weeks.
I've had some gnats return, I am not a fan of the bigger pot sizes because it's hard to regulate the water, 3 gallons must be the way to go!
I was concerned about a lot of the leaves dropping on the flowers but I've been told that some genetics just do this. All of her large fan leaves look healthy, apart from the big one being a tiny bit light bleached.
Sorry for the lack of updates for my diaries, while I'm trying to learn it's a little difficult keeping on top of it. I figure while I'm learning I'll make my diaries a little more relaxed and then when I know what I'm doing I will go all out on my diaries.
It's all going to be easy until harvest. Just watering when dry pH between 6.5-6.8. I need a new pH pen (Bluelabs hopefully!!) Because mine is .15 too high at the lower calibration it can go to. My guess work seems to be on point so far though, until it drifts further out of calibration...
Everything is going smoothly, I finally have a routine for the humidifier for winter time! Just watering when dry (6.5-6.8ph) and watching the buds ripen!
Same as usual, watering when dry pH between 6.5-6.8. I have been plucking the dead, dried up leaves when they are easy to remove.
I'm very excited, harvest is close! Documentation for this strain says it flowers for 8 weeks. It will probably be between week 9-10 though from what I've read about breeder recommended harvest times.
I ended up getting a little too eager as I decided to put her into darkness on day 82, should have at least waited another week by the way she now smokes. Still great though, good day time smoke with nice flavours. Harvest report coming!
I'm sure if I were to grow her again I would have much greater success. She was resilient to a gnat infestation in the seedling and early veg stages, dealt with the vinegar/water mix I used to kill the gnats and put up with constant humidity fluctuations.. no wonder why I only yielded 14gm! I waited for dry medium before putting her into darkness for 2 days, hung dried for 5 days and then jarred early to slow the drying for 4 more days due to terribly low humidity.
There is a slight taste of prematurity when smoked, however the odd nug has wonderful flavours reminiscent to a cheddar smokie. Consumption brings about feelings of energy, motivation and creativity making for a wonderful day time smoke.
My biggest recommendation is to grow her out for as long as you can to fill in the nugs. Keep an eye on the trichomes on the calyx and wait for them to start to turn.
I would love to try going this strain again, weather it be an auto or photo. She had a rough start due to gnats and a hard life due to me being in control of her environment but she made it to harvest.
@Mr_Weeds_Autos, I love it so much! It's a great way to test out new genetics and a great way to add "free" weed to the stash!
Thanks for the kind words! 😊
